I dunno, we did stupid shit when I was a kid(late 80's/early 90's). Jumping off bridges into the river, eating/drinking gross stuff, "surfing" on cars, bottle rocket wars, playing bloody knuckles, etc. Every generation has their bout of ignorant shit I think. The problem with this generation is that there is social media to make sure EVERY kid is aware of the latest dumb fuck thing to try.
-
The upside of working with kids is that when they do things that are absolutely ridiculous I can call their parents and have them join me in the, "THEY DID WHAT?!"
This year it was one of my boys poking a fork (how did he get a fork during my reading centers while sitting RIGHT NEXT TO ME?!) into the outlet. Texted father and got back, "WHAT?! HE KNOWS WHAT OUTLETS ARE."
So I'm going to assume all of these people just never progressed past 4th grade and/or didn't have parents that flipped out when they did stupid stuff.

I stuck a knife in a light socket when I was like, 8.
Kids do stupid shit.
-
In Kindergarten, a kid dared me to walk up to the front of the class and pull my pants down and moon the class. Dares are serious business yo, so I did just that.
Then my dad whooped my ass when we got home, LOL.

What I want to know now is how many outright stupid things you do now. (I laugh as I type this because most stupid things don't SEEM stupid at the time.)

Oh I've done plenty of stupid shit in my life. In High School, a friend and I decided to have a BB gun fight in my garage. Can't even begin to tell you how angry my dad was with bb's stuck in the walls, lol.
It's all part of the HUMAN EXPERIENCE. Granted, I'm not gonna put a blindfold on to try and drive around.
As for recent stupid stuff? A few years ago I drove a thumb tack through a finger nail because I wondered if that could happen. That was a very unpleasant experience. I've also mindlessly burned a finger or two accidentally touching a hot pan because I just wasn't thinking at the time. So yeah. Definitely have done some dumb shit!

Yeah I think it's just getting more attention because now the kids are doing the SAME dumb thing instead of each coming up with dumb things on their own. But kids have always done dumb, sometimes dangerous things.
In the grand scheme of things some doofuses eating soap is maybe not so bad compared to an entire generation doing crazy stunts without bike helmets.

I burned the hell out of my finger once because I'd just turned off a burner and the burner was off-kilter and I had the need to nudge it back into place so I just un-thinking pushed it back into place.
...worse yet is it was while I was touring a new apartment and doing the initial checklist to make sure everything was in working order, so my boyfriend and the leasing agent were both staring at me at the time. >.>

I once jumped off the roof of our house after opening up the patio table umbrella because I thought it would be a parachute like in cartoons.
It wasn't.
Luckily this was shitty ass base housing so it wasn't a huge fall. For awhile I was certain it would have worked from a higher elevation.
-
@mietze I did that with a regular umbrella off the garage. I wanted to be Mary Poppins.

@auspice JUST ONCE I WANT TO FLOAT DOWN ELEGANTLY!

When I was.... 4? 5? I tried to slide down the railing at my grandmother's house (my family lived in a single-floor rancher)... except it was a stair railing that was attached to the wall.
Predictably, my leg got stuck. My (alcoholic, angry, mean) grandmother got me un-stuck (she often babysat me and my older -- by a year -- cousin who was the one that goaded me into it) and sent me and my cousin to 'nap' for the rest of the afternoon after yelling at us for a while.
...I really didn't enjoy the afternoons I had to spend with my grandmother. We only had a small bucket of legos and a deck of cards there. Eric and I usually got sequestered with one or the other in a bedroom for the duration of the day.

When I was first allowed to run about unsupervised (like 6 years old I think. 2nd grade-ish), a bunch of the other kids and I loved going out on the base proving grounds because it had a lot of cool obstacles and you could find neat stuff there.
Also in the summer I always loved to ride my horse at my aunt's house into their pond. My cousins and I would take turns jumping off her back into the water and the swimming back/climbing back on her. While she would just stand there in the water letting us do this. Also we would ride her double bareback along the busy road to the corner shop to get candy. No helmet of course.
When I was a teen my friends dad would tie a bunch of ropes and inner tubes to the back of his truck and haul ass down the base fence side roads (he was a MP) when it was muddy, with us sitting in the innertubes.
Before I die (maybe immediately before) I am going to get drunk and do a barbie car race at my cousin's place (they have dirt bike/atv trails all over their property).

Oh my god, why is complaining about this still a thing? Literally every generation says this about the one after it, it's never as bad as it's made out to be, and humans still live on. Kids are dumb and they do dumb things inspired by the dumb people around them. This isn't any new quality of children in the modern era, this is literally a thing that has been happening and complained about forever.
These exact same things were said about you and your friends when you were young.
We are experimental, experiential, thrillseeking innovative creatures with a poor understanding of our own mortality and incredibly susceptible to social pressures among our peers. This is nothing more than a quirk of our evolution, and these are always a few extreme cases that just get way too much publicity.
