Yes.

@krmbm That is so stunning and bizarre that I feel like I need to be a part of this experience.
-
@Goldfish Is it? The last two "modern" games I played on prior to GH had at least one amputee on the grid. They seem to be a popular concept right now.
Also, we're not actually drowning in amputees (which is a gross mental picture). We just have more than one playing at the moment, and at least one of the players is quite active and has a character arc / story to tell that we'd like to let him explore, so we're just cutting off people with limbs cutoff for now.
So yeah. Don't turn up looking for a sea of stumps, or you will be disappointed.

I... you know, I realize that 'this reminds me of a thing that happened on Shang' is maybe my own tragic trope by now, but this reminds me of a thing that happened on Shang and I'm so, so very sorry. I'd share the story and related desc in all its dubious splendor if it wasn't rotting on the hard drive of a computer that hasn't even been plugged in for about a decade now.

Having one or two of something doesn't make it popular.
-
@Tinuviel One or two bartenders, sure. Amputees? I mean...that's kinda weird. And this is coming from me who plays disabled characters on the regular. Though, if I did play at GH, I'd play able bodied. Be a real renegade.

They're popular in the broad sense, as in you'll find one or two on a lot of different games, and a lot more than one or two in certain role play communities/

Hmmm, Cobie Smulders has a new show coming out called Stumptown. This thread has made me think about it in an entirely new light now.

Was able to access the website from my work desktop on Friday, but on the work week no longer able to. Am wondering if an upgrade is the culprit? Especially since I can access other Ares websites.
-
@Cupcake Yeah, I'm stumped (<-- it works on multiple levels).
I am in the process of setting up better upgrading for the game so conflicts are less of an issue down the road, and I reported the one weird error over on the Ares discussion forum - https://forum.aresmush.com/t/v0-49-released/400/5
I will keep poking at it tonight after work and see if I see anything else that I missed while upgrading.

My first reaction to seeing a ban on amputees is... 'Wait, does that mean no circumcision, or just no eunuchs?'
I think my brain might be rotted.
-
@Admiral It was the Shang mention, wasn't it. (And yet, on Shang, it wasn't that... )
-
@krmbm This rule feels bad, man. Jobs and businesses and stuff restricted, that's one thing. Restricting the disabilities a PC can have, kind of another.
I realize this is a tricky thing as staff to manage.
-
@Kaiju It's a temporary close on a concept that we've had a few apps in. Much like we temporarily closed British people when we had an influx. It's not a ban or a rule, just a temporarily closed concept which'll get reevaluated as time goes on and people idle out.
-
@bear_necessities Being an amputee or a British person isn't a concept... It seems unnecessarily arbitrary.
-
@Tinuviel Word. It's a feature. Flaw. Trait. Whatever.
I feel they are within their right to say, 'Yo. Cool it with the Brits for a sec.' Because the game isn't set in the UK. I'm not as firm on the amputee temp ban. I thought I saw it mentioned that the player(s) had an arc and I know that feel. It's nice if the game is small and the focus narrow to allow a player (or players) to work their angle. I just stepped out of a potential play group because my niche was covered BETTER by someone else and I was super sad about it. But I didn't want to fight with the other person on who getting to be cooler. So, fuck it, let them shine. I'll shine elsewhere.
So I get it. What's strange to me is like...how many amputees apped? More than...two and It'd raise an eyebrow.

They're within their right to say anything they want. Doesn't make it sensible or something I agree with.
A concern I have with arbitrary decisions like this is that... what's next? "Okay we're getting a lot of queers in here, so we're putting a moratorium on not-straight-cis applications."
