Gray Harbor Discussion

So no one has to lose their minds about discussion in the ads section... <.<
Here's the ad: https://musoapbox.net/topic/2725/gray-harbor-original-theme-horror-mystery

@krmbm So, what are players meant to do? Is this a tavern-sitting, small-talk game, or is there something feasible to do even if you don't already know people?
I mean... roleplay? I hope there's something feasible to do even if you don't already know people. We have ideas for one-off events/PrPs that people are welcome to attend (one on Sunday, for example), and there will be open plots that all tie back into the basic meta-plot.
Sorry if this doesn't quite answer your question. I'm not 100% sure I follow what you're asking.

Hey, so this looks interesting! I have one note: the line "We have no limits on characters/concepts (except the ones that are banned)" immediately made me laugh. You may want to say "few" limits.
Hah. I've read that a billion times by now and never noticed it. Thank you, will update.

the veil is thin here??

@Pandora like @krmbm indicated, we hope people come around and roleplay. We have roster characters who have pre built relationships but you can also reach out and oocly establish relationships with other characters on an OC easy enough.
That being said, I think in any game you're going to have your chit chat scenes and you're going to have your plot scenes. There are things on Gray Harbor to look into/research, there is lore to uncover. There are things that can happen to your character. Staff is going to be telling stories that connect to the basic meta plot. We are also going to tell small one off stories. And you can design and run your own PRPs too.

Took the server down for a quick reboot this morning. Back up now.

This is shaping up to be an awesome game, with RP going on already. Come play!

Is anyone else having difficulty with the website? I can pull it up, but the content won't populate.
-
@Cupcake Seems to be working for me.

Working for me, too. Are you using https://gray-harbor.com?

Yep. It becomes:

The links above work for me right now, too. Maybe you caught it when the game was down and your system wants to push you right there. Try the ol’ clear-cache trick?
-
@Cupcake You can also get the Sad Picard error if you're behind an extremely aggressive firewall. Try a force-refresh in your browser. If you're still getting the error and care to troubleshoot, you can post or PM me the console error (visible in the browser developer tools. In Chrome it's View->Developer->Developer Tools, then click on the Console tab in the developer window).

@faraday
Websocket Error: Network Error 12029, A connection with the server could not be established.I reckon its the firewall, although I can access the page from other devices on the same network.
-
@Cupcake Just a quick google suggests it might be security software on the computer blocking it (rather than a typical network firewall). It seems to come up more often with MS Edge browser, so I don't know if it's some security thing in Edge or if that's just a coincidence.
-
What's peculiar is that I can go to one of the other AresMush sites and log in and see the pages without any problem. It's only Gray Harbor I'm having an issue with.
-
That is peculiar. You can try it in your browser's incognito mode and see if it's some weird caching issue. Otherwise I'm kind of at a loss, since it's working for so many other folks.

Maybe the IP address for Gray Harbor used to host something malicious in the past and the firewall thinks it still does, and so all traffic to the HTTP/HTTPS ports is being blocked if it's anything other than a GET or HEAD command? I've seen packages like ZoneAlarm Pro do that when an IP is flagged as dangerous in its database.
The theory could be tested by temporarily disabling the firewall and making one request, just to see if the websockets work. (And then turning the firewall back on immediately, because please don't run an Internet-connected computer without security software.)
Regardless of the actual cause, though, it's almost certainly going to be something specific to that computer, not something anyone externally can fix.

I was able to get onto the site and I am very curious about one thing.
Why the ban on amputees? PIs and Bartenders, whatever. Word, word. But did they have a wave of amputee apps and had to be like. STOP. All limbs now.
Just curious.
