@Auspice It reminds me of the rain videos I listen to sometime, when I can't sleep. It relaxes my brain some, but it doesn't do the tingling, whatever feeling others tell me they get from ASMR.

Yeah, I used to get the tingling a lot, now I only get it sometimes. But I've read up on it and not everyone gets the tingles.

@Wretched I was helping my daughter with a foreign language assignment that used the Brady Bunch to illustrate family words. I had the theme song stuck in my head for the whole rest of the night, despite the fact that I never really watched the show and haven't seen even a blip of it in decades.

And then I make seventeen trips to the kitchen to keep going back for the one thing I went in there for in the first place.

@faraday Yes this sounds like my life. I will sing along to our work MUZAK (which had drifted to music that came out when I was a kid) without even noticing for most the day, but the amount of times I have to walk back and forth from because i have forgotten the basic task i am supposed to be doing before i got distracted is auuugh.

My Adhd and Anxiety are both Cryptid, but who knew my depression was a workaholic.

ADHD/Anxiety are in the genius cat. Depression tho is in workaholic cat.

I told someone recently that I love playing FFXIV because it hits the perfect notes of dopamine success. But then there's days, like today. when I could totally login and ACHIEVE a lot (.... in a game...) but I just..... don't have the motivation.

My adhd Is full on in the genius cat. Other than the honors/etc crap, my anxiety is mostly in the genius category. But my depression is mostly workaholic with a little cryptid thrown in.

turns out video game music really does help my concentration--

someday I will take less than "a few years" to listen to advice.

I spent a full year listening to this. Trust me, people were freaking out.

Hi, I just took a semester of school. In fact, I might just take a damned two semester off of school. I don't know yet. All I know is that the 'workaholic' column lined up perfectly for me, every last one of them, and I'm so. Tired.

Now I'm available to work double shifts for my boss. Oh, I'm also one of the few reliable people who shows up and knows what they're doing so that means I get griped at instead of putting effort into griping at people who don't know what the fuck they're doing.

So is it ADHD to need music to focus? In HS (a million years ago), it use to drive my mother crazy that I would have music and like another task going while studying. She never believed me when she said it helped me focus.

I learn more and more being on this board.

Oh yeah. It's how I got through college - one earbud in while listening to lecture.

I brought this over here because this one one of my biggest frustration to irrational anger triggers.

WHY THE FUCK CANT YOU JUST READ MY MIND OMG YOU DENSE FUCKING TABLE LEG!

At least thats my inner monologue whenever somone asks me for something ridiculous like 'more detail' and my mind is like 'NOPE I ALREADY USED ALL THE ENERGY ON THIS THAT I WANTED TO WITH YOU WERE DONE NOW.'

                                  Whee brains.

It's a definite coping mechanism. I wouldn't say 'It's ADHD to need' because I know plenty of people without ADHD who use music to focus. There's a reason studies have shown the types of music that are best for things like studying, concentrating, etc. It does things to the brain.

For me though, it keeps my brain occupied. If I don't have music while I'm driving, I drive worse because the 'ooh shinies' in my brain get free rein. My mother hated this when I was learning to drive. She wanted me to drive with 'no distractions' (as if her and the rest of my family weren't distraction enough, yeesh), but I persisted and now.... I can tell a definite difference between yes music and no music.

But 100% my friendship with @Paradox did begin with my going 'you use a lot of semi-colons too!'
