@wretched I hate that eye contact is still a required social construct. Even just casual conversation with someone I enjoy being around and I'm having to forcibly remind myself that they expect me to like... look at them. My brain recoils every time.

I swear to god, the next time someone asks me to tell them something about myself, I'm just going to say, "I never have any idea what that question means. How about you tell me something about yourself so I have an example to follow?" Because the alternative is me sitting there with no thoughts at all in my skull, barely even sure in that moment that I exist.

This is how I feel every time I see 'must be detail-oriented' on a job posting where I have to write an introduction letter explaining shit about me.

Like -- what the fuck does that even mean? Do you want someone who remembers all things at all times and can summon them up like an Alexa? Or do you want someone who makes obsessively sure that all things are on calendars and filed the way they should be just because he can't remember if he did that one yet and even though it's crossed off the post-it I don't trust the post-it?

Because I am the latter, and so far it works out very well.

Racism isn't Tinkerbell. It doesn't need you to believe in it for it to exist.

9 times out of 10, it's that one that they want.

I am definitely detail oriented, until I am not. If it's something I am researching, incredibly detail oriented as I delve into every minutiae. If it's updating a spreadsheet entry for the tenth time after making a phone call to someone, making sure to refile I file I pulled, or some other tedious bullshit thing, not detail oriented at all.

My daughter was sharing some of the youtube things she liked with an extended family member, including the Holderness Family ADHD video. Kid and I found it so relatable. Family member's immediate reaction was to make the "Loser" sign for Penn because he's "just making excuses for not doing what he needs to do".

While, yes, I get that having a challenge like ADHD doesn't absolve you of responsibilities, that attitude just makes me sad. 😞

I went to the store today (with a list. hahahaha) but when I hit check out, an elderly lady got behind me in line, and had a shirt on that said "Ask me about my ADD or cake. I love cake. What day is it? Is that a..."

Y'all we bonded in the checkout line. She hurried through her small purchase to catch up with me, and we chatted in the parking lot like old pals. Talking about how they didn't diagnose girls for evvvvvvvvvvver.

@macha I was legit expecting you to say you then walked out without your groceries and I was so relieved when that never happened.
