@Vixanic sorry for the maaassive wall of text though it probably isn't that hard to get through if you're just starting on Elvanse, lol.
One final recommendation: I found it difficult to get enough calories, maintain a balanced diet and remember to eat in general while taking Elvanse. Since as mentioned this kinda fucked up my body, I realised I needed a serious solution for this and did actually find one.
Huel works really well for me, it's quick, convenient and very easy to keep track of for calorie/portion control purposes. I've personally seen a lot of health benefits from having this on hand alongside my ADHD medication. I'm not affiliated with the company in any way. (I can pass on a discount/referral code but swear that's not why I recommend it.)
I also got some blood tests through private referral to ensure there weren't nutritional factors in my inability to concentrate etc. and recommend that if you fall into the trap of forgetting to eat or something. (Did have a couple deficiencies for a bit and addressing them did help.)

@kestrel Co-signed on pretty much everything. Additionally I noticed that it seems to increase symptoms of anxiety and compulsive disorders, so my doctor prescribed anxiety meds for me (though I haven’t seen the effects yet). The appetite suppression seems to wane a good bit over time. My meds also seem to wear off at such a time that I can relax in the evening… but I lose a degree of executive function that allows me to decide to go to sleep when I mean to. Ahhhh, brains.
Also, if you get to like 5-6 hours into your day and are just like, “god, why am I so fucking tired today?” go check if you took your meds. (I highly recommend getting a day of the week style pill counter so it’s easy to verify if you did.) Damn near guarantee you forgot. The effect has been pretty profound.

Wow, just wow. Thank you SO MUCH for all of this, it's really interesting and helpful to read through.
I am also UK based, and yes I did have to go private to get anywhere as mental health coverage where I am (South West) is poor-to-nonexistant on the NHS. Fortunately my therapist is a specialist in adult ADHD and is female (as am I), so hopefully she'll be aware of some of the things you've mentioned. I certainly have a list of questions for our next session!
She did mention taking the meds with a good breakfast, presumably to help with that bell curve, though didn't specify beyond filling and healthy. I'll take into account the fat effect on absorption and see how it feels when I'm on a higher dose.
The plan so far is to start on 30mg for the first week (where I am now) and increase to 50mg from there, and to catch up with her in a few weeks to see how it's going (though to call in if I experience any bad side effects or other issues).
Again, thank you so much for this, and to @thhppbbbt for those comments also. You're both awesome.

So, yet ANOTHER appointment reschedule for the ADHD meds.
This is the third time - for this appointment.
And now? Suddenly I also need to do a urine test - WHY was that not included in the tests I did over a MONTH ago now, to try and get this all done? And I can't get an appointment to go pee in a cup until AFTER the appointment that is scheduled.
This chick wasn't even IN THE BUILDING at the time of my first appointment. She told me to go get the tests done at the local hospital - they had no record of those tests ordered. I got the tests done, and now I'm still sitting here, fighting for all this. And with ADHD, being the one who has to keep track of everything? HAHAHAHA
-
@macha Do you have a copy of the tests now? Demand a copy sent to you by email or whatnot. Most fax machines can send an email at this point.
Also, demand the tests be faxed to the doctor who ordered them (AGAIN) and possibly your primary care physician. If they also send them electronically, great, but doctor offices love paper.
If your insurance will take one of the independent labs like Quest Diagnostics, they have an app that allows you to fax results to doctors yourself. Note: you cannot do this from their website, only the mobile app, because they are dumb.
-
@tributary I do not have a copy. My PCP's office has them, and they're on their game, so I don't have to worry about them. But the doctor didn't include the urine test order with the other tests. This bitch has just been a trainwreck.
My insurance barely covers anything, so outside lab is not an option.
-
@macha Ugh. Yeah, as long as they're somewhere you can get them sent from, that's good.
And some insurance companies have preferred labs, which is why I mentioned it. What insurance covers is sometimes ridiculous.
(Also, I went to the pharmacy to get my Adderall yesterday, and the pharmacist was like, "Hi, Ms. Tributary! How're you doing? I have the prescriptions for you and Dr. Tributary, but I need your driver's license for the controlled stuff.")

what the fuck? ADHD does not show up in your urine

@kanye-qwest Some sort of state mandate. They need to make sure I'm not on cocaine or something?

Because ADHD meds are controlled, some providers require a drug test prior to and/or during prescription treatment. It's the same for some folks who are prescribed narcotic pain medication.

So much for the call. So I called the office. -sigh-

Guys, it's finally happened! I have been given a script for adderall. YAY! Let's hope it works, eh?
-
@macha Congrats, I really hope it works for you!
-
Well, now the pharmacy sent it back for prior auth, but.. still. I will have it. Eventually. YAY!
