Do you care about other people's music?
-
@Thenomain I only use it to create shareable playlists because it is free to all. I don't like that the listening end seems to involve forced shuffle for the free usage.
I think that is part of why it annoys me and feels like a pain vs the hours I used to spend making mix tapes/burning CDs and mailing them to people. Order is sometimes important to me, so I like having the option to.present an order than people can then shuffle if they want.
-
n.b., I've never blogged, either. I don't have the mindset to share all this stuff in my head in any coherent manner. My opinion is if you want to get to know me, get to know me. Otherwise it feels like shouting into the void.
Mushes are a little different than 'the void', since a lot of people like this, but I've never learned the knack.

I like this game!
Can't fit all of them on here obvs.
-
I'll play.
-
I don’t care what people listen to or if they do, but I have bonded over a wiki playlist before.
I’m pretty sure that’s why @Wretched and I got along so well.

Am I the only person left on the planet who doesn't use Spotify?
No I am also with you on that one, I don't use Spotify.
I voted no. I don't really 'listen to music'. I rarely have it on. Sometimes I might feel a need to listen to a specific song, but once that's done I'm back to whatever. I find it distracting otherwise. I don't make playlists for my characters and don't listen to other people's playlists, heh!
-
yes people should share them
for me its not because i care what people think their characters soundtrack is but because i have found cool music thats new to me before because of a random playlist
-
I couldn't care less what other people's tastes in music are, as long as I don't have to listen to said music.
-
@Thenomain
I don't use Spotify - we are the only two left. Let's be 'those youngsters today' friends. -
As to playlists, I find it interesting. It's more that I love music and I'm very eclectic in it. So if I don't know a group they are talking about, I want to hear what it sounds like. This is going to sound vain (but I'm not sorry), but I am interested in what songs people pick for my chars. It's like confirmation the rp dynamic is right or not right at all.
So really, I like to hear new music (or old) from artists I haven't heard from.

In the early 2000s, a few games I was on would do games/themes for the @doing messages on WHO.
One that a couple games did was 'Song for the person above or below you.' Meaning you'd set your @doing to a song for either the person above you in the list or below.
I absolutely loved seeing what people picked. I'm not sure it's vain (though maybe it is!), but I see it more as a way of getting a glimpse into how others see my PC and whether or not I'm portraying them like I want.

If it makes people happy they should go for it. If it makes people happy to check out what made the other people happy they should also go for that.
I don't do either, honestly, but it's a free country.
-
I could not care less about anyone's playlist, and I'm pretty sure I've never even skimmed the ones I've come across on people's wiki page, and I don't even notice them usually unless it's a site that allows people to auto-play their music, and even then it's just to immediately stop the song.
That said, share away, it's literally hurting no one.
Please never ask me to listen to anything though, I can't get those 2-5 minutes back so the answer will always be no, and I will resent you for making me crush your fleeting hope.
-
Your name is literally Pandora.. comeon

@RightMeow Ikr? It's almost like the name Pandora existed before the streaming service or something.

I think you can learn more about the intended feel and thought behind a character through music than you can with PB pictures and blurbs about their backstory.
In fact, I tend to be more into scenes with characters who have heartfelt songs designed as their theme in a way. Even if the playlist is the kind of stuff the character listens to, it STILL helps flesh out the character far better than the person simply telling me who and what their character is.
Now...if the character does FIRE STUFF and has a song simply about FIRE? That's boring. But if the overall aura of the character is something akin to "surviving depression" and they have a playlist with something like "This Night" by Black Lab in it? They get bonus points and I become instantly more mentally attracted to their writing.
-
@Ghost I saw Black Lab open for the Cure in like 1996!

This isnt the Hog Pit so...
Truck ewe, icehole. <3. Jealous of that.
Edit: I should also add that I listened to the music on your character profiles and dug the effort put into creating that aura-theme for them through it. It wasn't wasted time.

I don't need these 2-5 minutes of my life back. That was a blast from the past.
