ISO: a comics/superheroes MU* (give me your recs)

Looking for recs for a supers game that seems to have some activity and doesn't have a complete dumpster-fire of OOC atmosphere or staff/player relations.
Theme specifics can be pretty open.
-
I'd be interested to know what's out there too. More curious if there is anything non-multi-verse (DC + Marvel + Everything else) out there. I am curious if its a dying genre despite the popularity in movies and TV series. I tried an OC game last year, had like one player try it.
-
@Lotherio Hopefully some recs will come this way. I suspect what will ultimately need to happen to get the itch scratched is to start a new game--while I love most comics, perhaps an OC-only pastiche/homage game might be the way to go.

I quit Empire after the issues with removing a player from his role after emitting his elderly aunt in RP. That stuff still going on?
-
It isn't set modern day, which is a learning curve for many, but it is multi-universe. So while it leans mostly-DC (whereas I believe ESH leans mostly- Marvel), if you can make a good case for something outside DC or Marvel, I am pretty sure staff would consider it.
The game has had one of the most chill OOC atmospheres I've been in. I'm sad I haven't been able to be more active due to my RL of late, but there are people there looking for RP and people to run plot with / for.

Most creators that I know of won’t touch the comic mush community with someone else’s ten foot pole.
-
To my knowledge, UH, 4T, and Empire State Heroes are the main comic book games out at the moment. Your choice may be fish.

Superheroes as a genre of mushing is in a fairly rough state of late. It's hard to find a really active game that can capture the imagination.
I run 4T, and it's got some good rp but right now it's a bit small the christmas season having slown things down as people were eaten by real life, but we try to make sure people who want and ask for RP can actually get it.
I'm honestly suprised at the state of Super Hero games in general. It seems such an easy concept to get right, throw some adventures out into the wind run some bigger stories for people to sink their teeth into and smaller stuff for just fodder for idea crafting and you're golden.
We live in interesting times. when it seems there's no reliable way to get super heroes right.
-
I tried 4T, but it never felt like the theme gel'ed and it had some demographic issues that plague these games when they don't get larger playerbases.
I think to answer the general question of why there aren't bigger/more successful games... is that UH is what you get. Even if you remove/ignore the creeper stuff, it's a huge +who list with lots of alt-camping, lack of ready access to core rp, etc. And the games just all tend to trend this way. A lot of people just want to have their favorite characters and maybe do personal RP/TS on them, but the motivation to do plots, public rp, etc seems minimal, and is further complicated by the wide selections of characters creating inconsistent tones, power imbalances, etc that often ruin that RP when it does happen.
In a way, these games almost run themselves, but getting them past a very low bar of 'people log in and chat on Super-aliases' is a much more difficult process.

A reminder to all that this particular area is to be considered mildly constructive, and that the request was for game recommendations rather than a call for why not to go to certain games.

I would like to find a good game set around present day. Marvel only, DC only, or a blend of the two without it being too strict on how characters have to be fit in.

ESH would fit the bill for you, I think. I haven't played there myself, but that's about what it is (blend of comics, but largely Marvel-bent, set in present day).

I concur with Auspice. I liked my time there but for personal reasons I did not fit in.
-
I may have to look into ESH further sometime. The pattern these days seems to be more "multiverse and whatever else we can fit in if it makes a sliver of sense," but it's the style that leaves the most room for variety.
-
There's another multiverse game around somewhere. I played there for a couple months. Don't remember the name of it and switched PCs so I don't have it in my world folder anymore, but it was relatively active. It's one that been around for a few years, I think, so I'm sure somebody knows the name of it.
Lot of char camping though, and really fucking weird activity policies that were like "post 1 log every 6 months and you're fine".
-
While ESH does accept canon characters from non-Marvel sources, the setting is pure Marvel and those characters have to be apped as if they'd always been Marvel. That includes setting, power level, etc. As a for instance, while there's no Gotham City, Staten Island has been given a similar feel.
And yes, we still enforce rules and take action when someone ignores three warnings. I suspect that's common to most places.

Fuck no, that's the dumbest approach ever.
There's two kinds of problematic players, those who do learn and those who don't. If you talk to someone about a problematic behaviors of theirs and they repeat it, they're not going to improve the 2nd or 3rd time either.

Hi.
What did I just say?
Keep it more than civil.
Thank you.

Thank you for the recommendations so far!
