Netflix only allows 2 marvel titles a season, it's tied up with defenders and their solo seasons. Hopefully it's well done. I've enjoyed Legion so far, and others not on Netflix.

The Good Place is probably my favorite thing on TV right now. Brings me joy every week.

How is Season 2? I enjoyed Season 1 so much that I've been afraid to watch Season 2 in case it went downhill.

I haven't watched Season 2 because I am a Netflix boy and don't have network television, but I'm told that if enjoyed Season 1 I would love Season 2 so far.

Take The Good Place for what it is: Witty fluff. You are going to get more wit and witticism in a half our from Rick & Morty, but it has some of the same quirkiness that I loved in Pushing Daisies (also a more refined and wittier show).

I can best describe it as an anime, the sort that has a plot and not the kind designed to go on for a million years. The first half is mostly world-building with the barest hints that there is a plot, and the second half is the plot going from "huh, this is interesting" to "wow, so, that happened".

It starts coming into its own at about the end of episode 3 of 12, when The Monk speaks. I wouldn't call it an amazing show; I'm not going to rave about it to everyone I know, but it's a nice half hour distraction and it is more than just that. By the end of the last episode of the first season, I felt that I didn't waste a single moment watching it.

@tempest Weirdly enough, hulu has been pulling some previously unbeknownst to all ass-kickery of late. Both The Handmaid’s Tale and Harlots — which you’d not necessarily otherwise think to mention in the same sentence — have both been pretty impressive.

Hulu has been doing comedy to varying results for a while. Quick Draw, The Awesomes and Deadbeat All managed a couple of seasons or so each. The delightful The Wrong Mans lasted two seasons. And now they’re killing it with Difficult People and Casual. They also picked up the last seasons of In The Thick of It and The Mindy Show.

Everyone’s doing the original content thing these days. Amazon Prime. YouTube. Crackle. Even the PlayStation Network bad Powers for a while and supposedly XBox has the license for a Blake’s 7 remake.

Netflix is showing a new Tomorrow People, which was my power fantasy when I was 12.

Unless it's a very new Tomorrow People that's probably actually the show that was on the CW a couple of years ago, starring Stephen Amell's cousin, Lumpy Jimjeans*.

It was pretty awful and lasted one season. Which, guys, this is the CW. If it only lasted one season it was more than just pretty awful.

*I don't remember his name and I will not be l- oh shit, it's Robbie! Robbie Amell!

That's good news that they're up to 3 a season now, thanks for clarifications.

As much as I am looking forward to Shane as Frank, I'd like to see some of the prior defenders series continuing. 3 is still too limited. If Greg Berlanti and crew can do so much on CW, the defenders crew could manage 3 a season at least (and I do prefer the Netflix Marvel over the CW DC runs).

And I'm still good with FX on Legion (my favorite to date to be honest), Runaways on Hulu, and the upcoming Cloak and Dagger being on another network. I think my favorite thing is there is a bit of oversight, even if very limited, to at least try to keep it tied to Marvel Cinematic Universe rather than existing in a free state, separate from each other. Never needs to be any cross over, but just the little bits of fallout related to movie events has made it a cohesive universe that is not dependent on one network/production company (outside Marvel Productions I suppose)

The biggest advantage Netflix has is that they don't need to follow the usual TV template; no cliffhangers for commercial breaks, no constant exposition to catch viewers up from last week's episode - in fact nothing to help anyone catch up, since it's assumed they can just binge watch or start over any time they want.

From a narrative and storytelling point of view those are probably enormous tools for them, and a secondary effect could be that such freedoms attract better talent. The last part is speculative though.

@arkandel Don't get me wrong, I love the Netflix shows, just commenting on the financial burden probably being a very large issue as to why they don't do that many shows concurrently. It's a lot of eggs in one basket.

That's actually quite too bad. Star Trek was always pretty squeaky-clean, but it was based on a utopia future. Even the harsh bits were the challenge of all. I hear it's good, but ah well.

I don't mind gritty. Deep Space Nine was at its best when it was gritty.

I've been a fan of Trek for more years than I care to remember, but the previews of the new series have left me utterly disinterested. I think I'm just tired of them constantly reinventing stuff. It took me years to finally accept Enterprise and then they went and cancelled it just as soon as it was starting to get good. Don't think I'm going to give this one a chance, especially since I have to pay to view it.

Besides, The Orville is closer to being what old school Trek was about, than actual Trek is now.
