Good TV?
Good TV on YouTube?
Yes.
-
@Thenomain Cobra Kai approves this message.

@Wretched
I have the graphic novels and comics for this. It's very good. I hope they don't mess it up. Karl Urban looks like a good casting so far. -
Holy fuck shit that The Magicians season finale. Damn.
-
@Coin I'm never gonna forgive them for that no matter how good it was.
-
@Coin I just... augh. AUGH.
(Also, great. Now every time I hear "Take On Me" I'm going to associate it with this.)
-
@Sparks ^ YES, ALSO THAT. I love that song because I'm an 80s nerd.
All the crying, forever.

Much respect for how beautifully they pulled that scene off (while also pulling my heart out using a peach, so thanks for that), and I can see why they did this from a narrative standpoint. But at the same time I'm also a bit upset that we're dealing with this particular trope on a TV series yet again.
-
@Sparks They wrapped it up well and... at a certain point I pretty much expected this? But not the way they're going about it. Which is... augh, my heart. Those were my feels, show!!!
-
Not sure which trope you mean, @Sparks, but none of the ones present, I think, were used in a way that makes me cringe. Everything was so cohesive, augh.

Being vague to avoid spoilers; naming the trope here would give away what happens.
The trope use itself didn't make me cringe, though. The story was well done! It's just the fact that this trope happens often enough that it is a trope in the first place that annoys me.

I am a huge Garth Ennis fan, and this is making me preeetty hyped.
The Boys trailer.
-
@Arkandel Yeeeeeeeeeeeees. Holy crap. I was all o.O but the premise of that comic is so damn good. Garth Ennis comes up with the most twisted stuff. But I really like Preacher and The Boys looks like it's going to be super fun. That Karl Urban tho! Wooot!

Re: The Magicians, I just watched the finale. (I subscribe via Amazon, so I can't watch stuff until the day AFTER it airs unless I buy the whole channel.)
And JFC, I am having a major feel. Yes, it was beautifully done. And yes, the character in question asking what they did at the end totally makes sense for them and their mental process. But I am legitimately really upset about it in a "representation matters" kind of way, and not just because of the specific trope @Sparks is referring to.
I want to have a conversation about this but don't want to post spoilers to the board.
I think I also need a hug.

@Aria Same.
There is a message it sends that I also am really not at all cool with, that I don't think they intend, and it's especially heartbreaking to me, and I just... can't.

Yeah. Yeeeeeeeeeeah. Coupled with the end of 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend', which is not at all their responsibility because those shows aren't even the same parent company, let alone the same network....
The timing is just really awful re: positive, or even vaguely relatable, representation of characters of a certain type. I am not happy.

Aw man, I loved the finale of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

I did, too. My point was more that with the timing of it ending and the season finale of The Magicians, there seems to be a sudden gap of representation of characters of -- ahhh, a particular type, which is all I think I can say without ZOMG SPOILERS -- who have positive relationships, rich emotional ranges, and are able to create meaning their lives despite the thing as opposed to their usual portrayal. Which is generally depicted as burdensome to others, horrific/a warning, a joke, or villainous. I find this deeply upsetting.
