Star Wars Republic d20 SAGA - (Prequel Era)

So, uh, how about them Wars in the Stars?
On a side not to @KDraygo, trying to win MUs is exactly what I did on SW games 20 years ago, lol.

Does that include you?
Unfortunately yes. I was super excited about this game but have since opted out. Apologies for bailing.
At least until the game is in a more completed state. Maybe after beta is over it might be better for me to go back and be a part of that community.
That sucks for everyone then. Your stories were epic. I was curious to see how those would go in a mainstream faction. I hope you come back and give it another try at some point.

Hi, I would like to join this game, but it seems I have been mistaken for some troll named "Tiana" and have been sitebanned before even finishing chargen. I have never gone by "Tiana" anywhere at any time, or have made any character by that name. I could try to keep circumventing the blocks, but that would just make me look more suspicious and I sincerely just want to get this misunderstanding cleared up. I understand that previous bad experiences often lead to paranoia, but there must be some way I can prove to everyone that I am not that person. It is odd because when I first logged on I was chatting rather amicably with everyone about various topics including Episode 3, The Clone Wars, Transformers and Superhero games in relation to the topic of PvP vs PvE, the general direction Obie was thinking of taking this game, etc. Then I tried to come on again the next day and found I was either blocked or just kept getting booted. Then Obie himself called me "Tiana" and said he didn't want me there because of past experiences, and he would not even give me a chance to prove that I am not her at all.
Anyway if there is any way this can be cleared up, please let me know. I can talk about where I've been in the MUSH community and where I am now, as well as have multiple others vouch for the kind of person I've been for the past 2-3 years, if that would help. I know people can make up stories, but I think there are some things that would be difficult to just cook up, not to mention orchestrate with other people in on the whole scheme.

An excellent choice.

I can't think of many things that are harder, sadly (not that I know who either you or the intended sitebanned person are). Hopefully the powers that be see this and have a chat with you to clear it up.

To prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, probably not. But to provide enough evidence in my favor, perhaps.

This is a good indication that you should save yourself a lot of headache and wasted time by avoiding this place. Apparently he has done this to multiple people with multiple instances of being dead wrong about things. He's a raging narcissist who doesn't want you on his game if you so much as disagree with him. And if there's a problem, you have to resolve it the way he wants you to or he'll give you the boot. He doesn't want to create an inclusive community, quite the opposite. He wants to exclude anyone and everyone who doesn't fit his own skewed perceptions on how roleplaying should go.
Someone explain to this lunatic the concept of wrongfun.
He's taken incidents from 5 years ago that he's still traumatized by and overreacted by taking a cleaver to the rules, feats, and talents in SWSE with no continuity. For example, he's made all the lightsaber styles more powerful, but then targets players that want to make a lightsaber duelist.
Its one thing if someone who was a problem 5 years ago returns and causes the same problems, but like was mentioned before, this whole game is being warped and twisted by ghosts of 5 years ago haunting an inexperienced, first time staffer that let all the imaginary, non-existent power to go to his head.
Run while you still can.

Hmm....well, there were definitely more than a few red flags going up at someone who has apparently never staffed anywhere trying to run a game alone. But I assumed he was planning on getting more staff before beta closed. Plus basically pre-banning everyone in an entire town and everyone who uses VPNs ever because of the actions of one person. Not a good plan. Too bad, I have been wanting a clone wars era game for a while. But maybe next time, heh!
Or maybe I'll try to make one. Although my SW lore knowledge is woefully lacking. So I'd need someone to help.
Oooor if anyone knows of another one, definitely let me know.

Definitely avoid. I asked if the huge wall of yellow anger text in chargen about stat bonuses could be changed to a different color and got laughed at. He said if it was painful, it was doing its job. So I just left.
Makes me seriously wonder if he's Zero in disguise.

Boo. I've been kind of thirsty for a Star Wars game. It sucks about this one.
-
Just to give an opposing voice. I've been on the game for a a week or two now and I have had no bad experiences at all. Obie's new as a game runner, and some of the changes to rules maybe aren't wholly thought through but to me that isn't some cardinal sin. Obie's been wholly welcoming to any questions as far as I can see, and has been accommodating to every person I've seen. Taking suggestions freely, asking for opinions on many things.
When I wanted something on my sheet changed he was glad to do it, when people wanted to try STing in the system for the first time he took the time to actually handle all the complicated commands for ST in the scene. Whenever people talk about running stuff he is very encouraging and even asks for tips and tricks to make his own stuff better and has taken every feedback I have given him to heart so far.
I didn't see any of the problems mentioned above so couldn't opine about them but I've seen nothing bad on the side of staff on the game nor from the people.
-
If Obie's still learning the ropes, then it might still be a good idea to avoid the game for now. Last thing you want to do is flood the game, overwhelm him, and burn him out.
-
That's actually something he's mentioned. Some guy talked about him needing to do more ads, and he said he was fairly happy with the amount of people he has now and doesn't want to be overwhelmed. Which was a positive to me, shows more awareness than many people I've seen.

Much of what you described I experienced as well. Seemed very easygoing and helpful... until he wasn't anymore.
Make sure if you have an "opinion" you agree with him and support what he's done. If you disagree or try to steer him back to something sensible, he'll suggest you don't belong there or ban you outright. Sometimes both.
If he asks for feedback, don't fall for it. Remember Admiral Ackbar's warning.
-
@jetfire_158 Just as an FYI, I am the old Tiana and I have no clue who the fuck Obie is or what issue he has with me, but a) I am not, nor never have been a troll and b) you are not me and you can tell him so and give him this post as proof if you decide to go there. Good luck and may the Force be with you.

@EvilFerret I was waiting for this.
-
@secretfire Good to see you! Still trying to figure out this troll thing. I mean, do I get a bridge?

Hey All,
Wow, I never expected to see a thread on DoD or any predecessors before it. I kind of find it interesting the views on how the database was transferred. It's been stated, but as one of the admin that was apart of the transfer - I thought I would give my insight a bit.
As has been stated, the database was never originally Vaapad's - but it's more than that. Vaapad used that game as his own personal play ground and would come in for a few days out of a month or after a few months and cause all kinds of havoc. He couldn't be stopped because he was the head wiz. Additionally, the code was constantly being improved or renovated by the Coders that we had at the time. I would argue that quite a bit of the code used by the time it was taken, was not what Vaapad had originally and had no part in.
Vaapad was causing a massive problem and the game was headed for destruction, so the decision was made to transfer it over. For a time, it prospered. As with all things, that did come to an end ofcourse. I don't regret that decision because I don't feel like Vaapad really owned or had any stock - it was a personal play ground for him.
I'm not sure if I was in a position now, if i would do it again though. Man, this feels like a life time ago as well.
Anyway, my two cents from an admin who was apart of it for what it was worth.

@EvilFerret Thanks. I appreciate it, but I have decided that a guy who is completely new to staffing trying to run a game all on his own and not even trying to find additional help and also pre-banning everyone in an entire town as well as multiple VPN tunnels because of one "troll" is enough red flags for me. As much as I am itching for a republic era game, I figure someone else is going to come along with another one done the right way in the next year or two, given the direction of the media currently.
In my mind, trying to staff alone or joining a game with only 1 staff member is never a good idea. Because we are all human and not only can we not do everything ourselves, we need accountability. Myself included. I would never, ever staff alone, because I don't trust myself.
