Fortunately, when I was at Whole Foods, the guy I worked with the most had just begun reading Dresden Files and upon finding I was a fan would talk to me about the chapter(s) he'd read the night before every day. It was like my very own refresher for the series. I did re-read Skin Game myself, though.
But since Peace Talks apparently has a cliffhanger, I miiiiiight hold off and just get the next Peter Grant book instead because oh man Broken Homes was so good.
I went and reread the whole series before reading it.
If no one has mentioned: The Craft Sequence.
After reading the first book (I have the omnibus) I declared it the Kill Six Billion Demons of words.
The Kings Watch series. Better than Dresden files imo.
@silverfox I tend to do this at least once a year, regardless if a new book is coming out or not.
My aunt has given me several books where the book is the almost parallel lives of a modern historian and a person in history, almost totally female perspective (because my aunt is editor to almost exclusively female authors, but that is something else.) Covid has made it so she can't go into the office and thus can't send me more books, so I actually had to go looking for something to read.
I stumbled across this book called The Weight of Ink that follows that same parallel structure. I'm enjoying it, but it is also seriously challenging me. It is a National Jewish Book Award winner, and the history involved is dense 1650's stuff with references to philosophers and Jewish culture I just have no experience with. I'm having to pause and google for context to grasp what is so significant.
I just finished Peace Talks, the latest installment in the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher.
The spoilers free review is that if you already like the series then you'll enjoy this one as well. It's a two-parts novel (the second half is going to be published at the end of September) so I can't comment on the entire thing but I liked the direction.
My only complaint is that it's getting to the point there's so much history that the metaplots themselves are hard to track down sometimes, especially since it's been a while since I last read the previous books.

I solve this by re-reading the entire series when I know a new book is coming out so it is fresh in my mind. Thankfully, since I just did this for Peace Talks I don't have to do it again for Battle Grounds
Lets just hope it isn't another six years before the next book drops.

It probably won't be. It was so long this time because Butcher was going through Some Shit. He had a lot to deal with in his personal life.

At some point it becomes too cumbersome to re-read the entire series once the novels' count hits double digits.

Maybe I just enjoy the series too much, but I never find it a chore.

A former MUSH-er had to take an extended hiatus from fantasy stuff to deal with their RL and it took a hell of a long time?

I have complicated feelings about it that are largely positive.
Mostly my feelings are that it reminds me of Revolutionary Girl Utena in some ways.
After this, I'll probably go read Privilege of the Sword for the nth time.

Just finished Kuang's Poppy War. Really enjoyed it, and looking forward to Dragon Republic, which I've got on my shelf.
