Oh christ I remember the "BUT WUT IF ITS A DOOD" panics back when.
I still sometimes think of the one guy who told me it was a male biological imperative on Icons In the Foyer. (A sort of JavaChat WORA.)

I remember reading a very long post by Adam of Firan fame back in the early 00s about how he just COULD NOT GET playing a character of another gender and WHAT IF TS HAPPENED ZOMG.
I'm sure these people still exist but if they've shut up it's all for the good.

I mean it's even grosser when you remember that people have been getting away with literal murder for decades making basically that argument.

I used to see people (especially female players) tell others that they were not the same gender as their PC almost fearfully, as if they expected to lose the RP with those they'd "deceived". I haven't really had that kind of conversation in a good 10 years now, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's on the way out.
Before I came out as trans, I had this conversation with people pretty frequently on Rinel, and every single time it was absolutely terrifying.
In retrospect, this may have been because I am trans, and the idea of being "that guy who has no idea what being a woman is like" was horrifying on a level so visceral it's hard to explain.

Okay, so, it's six-and-a-quarter hundred posts as I write this and I just can't be assed to go back through the last 32 pages to check. Have we ever even talked about what representation is, or why some of us find being poorly represented upsetting?

Before I became a sex weirdo I was super freaked out about people being the opposite gender, but also I was like 18 lmao.
Also @Rinel is basically one of my top favorite RPers and we've barely RPed. I really need to get back into the swing of Arx things.

@Rinel is one of my favorite RPers and we've never RPed nor have I read a log. When you hear all sorts of awesome and crazy things about someone, you nod and go "One of these days, I'm going to have to run into them."

Hi, you must be new here. This is the part where we talk about straight folks that think they're the "exception" to someone's homosexuality. Or we can talk about "corrective rape".

@Kanye-Qwest The assumption being that the dude in the equation is gay, and 'you're the woman who changed his mind'.
There are a lot of people into that one, and not remotely subtle about it, from every possible angle there. Like, it might be the one thing bi/pan folk ever escape: 'the conversion fantasy'.
Except we don't really because our version is 'the one who made them finally pick for good', which is... also flinch-bait.

I think the joke was that @saosmash doesn't have a gay fetish character at all, but people like to claim @saosmash does. @Kanye-Qwest pointed out that her character had heterosexual sex with this character that is alleged to be a gay fetish character, which would make that argument moot.
