Videoland

Remember that place? It was a sound if silly idea. Captain N: the Game Master writ large.
It would've been fun if it wasn't run by a micromanaging, arbitrary nutbag.
It's still a sound (if silly) idea.

I think I played there briefly. I think. It was a long time ago. Or maybe I'm misremembering. Never got too involved in anything, IIRC.
-
I played there for a bit, but found it impossible to keep up with the two massive factions. When there's 100+ characters on each side and the plot is sprawling in all directions at the speed of a bullet train, it's hard to really get a foot hold.

What is or was Videoland?

@Cobaltasaurus
Based on the Captain N cartoon. tl;dr: all video games exist as branches/locations in a massive digital world. A Nintendo playing high schooler gets dragged to the world to save the good guys from the evil forces of Mother Brain, King Hippo, Eggplant Wizard, Donkey Kong and Dracula.The MUSH expanded on this to allow ANY game, be it NES, SNES, Genesis, PS2, PC, as well as more Gamemasters (dudes from Earth) representing the major hardware units/giants (Nintendo, X-Box, Playstation, Dreamcast, Atari), with a combat code based on a MUSH approximation of the Smash Bros. mechanic.
I played and staffed there, adn I had to agree with Jay; the massive sprawl made it extremely hard to get RP, and like Megaman MUSH, there tended to be a dearth of RP unless someone was 'Imma go invade an enemy Video Game'. It also suffered from the late era Megaman MUSH crowd (that was essentially too serious) and was the first game I ever had the issue of 'twenty minutes between poses' phenomenon pop up.

@Bobotron - You ran into the cabal of Dr. Leo and his Doctorate in Communications so call him Doctor, didn't you.

@JaySherman
No, I was long since gone from even attempting M3 at that time, so I never really interacted with Leo except for a little bit, when I had my Emeritus OOC character, and everyone was so dismissive of people 'just having an OOC character to see other people'.I logged back in, my OOC char was nuked with no explanation or warning and off I went, never looking back. The game had taken on way too serious or crazy changes.
I think that's why I never stuck around at Videoland. I played Xianghua (from Soul Calibur) for a little while, but the sheer size I felt like faltered RP, particularly since I couldn't put ten hours a day into it like many people, and I ran a couple of the Smash Tournaments (because you gotta have an Olympics-style event on that MU* circuit, yessiree!) and really never came back after that.

That particular group of staffers definitely took things way too seriously, to the point of witchhunts for anyone who gave one of their own a bad staff review on the "anonymous" review boxes. They spread out to Videoland and a few other games and basically held the same cult of personality wherever they went.
I am in contact with the original Captain N and Captain X from that game. It's a valid theme if you want to run it with someone who remembers that it's a bunch of mismatched video game themes pasted together using NES logic for wacky funtime adventures.

I thought it was a fun concept. That, and in the cartoon Mother Brain was voiced by the late, great Levi Stubbs.
