I need a place to live by the end of June. I was supposed to be moving into an apartment with my boyfriend then, but that isn't happening and I don't qualify on my own.

I'm currently in alabama and would like to live anywhere else. I have a cat, I have a car, and I work in food delivery so should be able to get a job as soon as car is registered to a new state.

I would prefer somewhere more liberal than alabama and preferably with legal weed. But literallu anywhere would have to be better.

sighs I've been there dude, I've so been there. What I can say is: You might have heard some good things about Portland, but it is not a place you want to move to, especially right now. Mostly because of the cost of living here more than anything else.

Wish I could offer you something better, and I really hope this works out well for you in the long run.

I am considering selling my house in Georgia and moving back to the Niagara Falls/Buffalo area to be closer to family. If it ends up coinciding with your need to move, I will hopefully have a small house with a guest room you could rent. I do have a cat and two dogs though, and although the pups are great with the cat and vice versa, the cat was not remotely ok with a kitten I found in the road and brought in for a brief few hours to try and find a shelter.

I do recommend Philadelphia in general. The cost of living is much lower than cities of comparable size, especially on the East Coast.

Like, yeah, our house is only 1200 square feet so the third "bedroom" is basically exactly big enough for my desk, a bookshelf, and a chair but our mortgage is also less than $900 a month, even with us having a garage, two parking spaces, and a small yard. Other rowhomes (basically a townhouse?) in my neighborhood regularly rent for about $1100.

Delaware exists, and we have 0% sales tax!

I love how you guys are utterly shameless about setting up major shopping centers juuuuuuuuuuuuust across the state border for all of us Pennsylvanians. Like, I'm sure there's some lovely people who live in Claymont, but as far as I'm concerned, it's for buying liquor and not paying tax on expensive electronics.

@aria I'm all the way down in Dover, so... a whole hour away. Near enough to daytrip for city excitement in Philadelphia or DC, but also far enough away that I can find some Amish folks to make furniture or something.

... which reminds me, I need to price Amish-sturdy bookshelves for all my nerd shit.

@betternow Thanks, let me know. My cat is 8 years old. She's ok with other cats though not a fan. She has as ok with my puppy but didn't like the german shepherd we lived with once.

@cobalt Madison, Wisconsin is pretty low rent payments and I'd say Madison is a bastion of progressiveness in an otherwise purple state.

That said, I could potentially find you work in the lab where I work in. That is, if you're okay pipetting poop at $16/hour.

This is a shitty, stressful, up in the air feeling. I'm sorry you're in this situation, and I really hope it works out quickly.

@kanye-qwest Thanks, it's pretty shitty. On the one hand, I can't blame my roommates for not wanting to change their plans because I got dumped. But on the other.... It'd be nice if I could stay in my own home.

Cost of living in the Syracuse area is pretty amazing and the city is little, but has all the city-like things you'd want.

Avoid Maryland. It's crazy expensive, and medical weed only.
