The FUTURE!

I was reading an article about the social effects of increased automation - how society would cope with the eventual loss of jobs and if it's something new this time rather than a repeat of something that's happened again and again in human history.
http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/14/12/20/1618222/what-happens-to-society-when-robots-replace-workers?sdsrc=popbyskidbtmprev was the thread in question.
So. What do you think? Is this the end of the world as we know it?

It's articles like these that make me think Greece is ahead of its time by about 20 years.

I know some people who'd laugh hard at that.

Oh, without a doubt, but you see a lot of European countries that are taking it down a notch or two already and they're doing pretty well.
I just don't see the United States ever going that way, they have politicians saying people have to work longer hours these days. -

That's because US politicians are owned by corporations. Which is why Trump as a president terrifies me so.
Spoiler Alert: The United States is not a democracy.

Democracy is just a very wonderful theory. Like Communism.

Aren't we a constitutionally limited representative democratic republic? I mean leaving aside the corporate overlords who run everything for reals.

I kind of hope he wins. It would serve the Republican party, as an entity, with a delicious plate full of irony as everything they pretend not to be gets brought directly to the forefront.
Trump isn't doing or saying anything that isn't being done or said by the rest of the rich dudes who buy politics behind the scenes, he's just being crass about not staying behind the scenes.
@Arkandel
Thanks for the link, interesting read that led to other interesting reading. -

That's the word around the water cooler.

Some are saying it's an oligarchy with unlimited political bribery. But what does a former president know?

Completely irrelevant to The FUTURE but still, I happened to be reading about it recently. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Hunger_March
