It's still too fucking small. If someone can tell me how to increase the damn font size , or install another skin with a larger one, without using ctrl-scroll wheel (which makes it impossible to review old posts while replying), I'll be not unhappy with this.
I know you found a fix but also--
Have you tried the 'Readable' skin? I just switched to it cause I found the font on Spacelab a bit too small. It's a little bit better, but ymmv.

Somehow everyones avatars are gigantic now.
ETA: I hard refreshed and it fixed it for one page. Every time I go to a new page, they're huge ginormo and they're ginormo in the dropdown for alerts.
-
I'm okay with it now, my earlier 'ew' is officially rescinded. I wanted an 'unread' screen with the ability to jump to the last post, and so I am happy.

@Bobotron That's a caching issue. See @Miss-Demeanor's post on how to clear it for various browsers, though for chrome, you just need to clear the images and files checkbox or whatever, not everything.
-
@Glitch
I cheated. I ended up CTRL+SHIFT+I and then hold down the reload button; you get an option for 'empty cache and hard refresh'. Which worked. Also, slate is nice.
-
For Chrome, you can actually clear the cache for just one website, as I discovered.
EDIT: Lol beaten by MOMENTS.

@Roz
Funny, that's the article I was JUST looking at. -

That's what I'm using now. It is the best of the bunch in terms of size. I'd prefer one even larger but this is livable if not optimal.

As a heads up, however, the forums will be upgraded on a periodic basis.
Why? Why the fucking fuck do you have to constantly change what works? This is the single most maddening fucking thing about the whole move to web apps: every fucking DAY some dumbass somewhere has decided to change the entire UX of a site I use just because, hey, it's been the same for two months. Time for change.
Fix bugs, sure. Add features, sure. BY WHY THE FLYING FUCK DO YOU FEEL THIS UTTER NEED TO CHANGE THE ENTIRE USER EXPERIENCE EACH TIME YOU HAVE A FUCKING BRAIN FART!
This most recent change is STILL fucking up every second page I visit on it. It looks hideous half the time (and yes, precisely half), but hey, at least the new forum software is a third the speed!
Welcome to the fucking age of fucking progress.
-
Since there doesn't appear to be an "edit" link any longer, I've had to supplement this by double-posting. (Yay! Progress!)
This is what causes me to lose my shit over this latest change:
That is the look and feel precisely every second time I open any window in this "upgraded" forum software. One click and I get a new look that I could get used to, annoying as it is (because you just KNOW that once you get used to it some dunderheaded fuckwit will change everything all around again!). Next click I get this fucking monstrosity. Next click, back to something tolerable. And so on.
-
Edit is in the three dots on the right next to the up/downvote.
You'll need to clear cache; mine was doing what yours is doing, and it required the cache clear.
-
I have cleared the cache a thousand fucking times. Welcome to the world of web apps where there may be a million fucking undocumented places they stick shit.
As for three dots ... you have my screen shot. WHAT FUCKING THREE DOTS!?
-
The circled thing. There's three vertical dots. That's your edit stuff.
ETA: What browser are you using?
-
@WTFE I'm going to assume you're only half talking to me, so I'll just address the change here. For the most part, the UX is pretty much unchanged, though the theme has certainly undergone an overhaul. This upgrade actually allows a little more in the way of customization for users by letting them select a color palette that might be more pleasing to them. Otherwise, the menu is in the same spot, most of the buttons are the same, really the only thing that has changed is the edit button for posts is now in a little dropdown and cache-clearing was (and is) required to fix some of the visual glitches from the change.
As for the more ranty half of the post, your lawn is looking particularly fine today.
-
Great. So I can edit TNP's post, but not mine. (Hint: LOOK FOR THREE DOTS NEXT TO MY MESSAGE YOU UTTER FUCKING DOLT!)

Yeah. The half where I'm saying people who randomly change the UX of a site every fucking second week piss me right the fuck off.
Oh. That's pretty much the whole rant, isn't it?
For the most part, the UX is pretty much unchanged
Well, except for the part where it looks ugly as shit, where it randomly decides to look different on each visit, where everything has been moved around or hidden behind cryptic "three dots" menus, etc. You're right. Aside from, you know, about 85% of the UX, the UX is pretty much unchanged.
This upgrade actually allows a little more in the way of customization for users by letting them select a color palette that might be more pleasing to them.
Yay! I can select a colour palette! Maybe I can make mine shit brown to reflect the lovely new user experience!
As for the more ranty half of the post, your lawn is looking particularly fine today.
Just stay the fuck off of it.
-
@WTFE Dude, I'm seriously sorry, without the slightest trace of sarcasm, that you're having issues, but it isn't because of the theme itself. From the image you posted, that's the jankiness from the caching issue rearing its head. It's closer to 95% of the UX being the same, when it's working, you know, for the rest of us. Blame the Great Firewall or something, not me. Okay, partially me, but only in that lawn-care sort of way.
-
So no matter which way you skin it, it still looks like the comments section of a buzzfeed article. Or youtube. Pick your poison, really. Hopefully we'll get back to looking like an actual forum eventually.
I realize that's just my personal aesthetics, but adding an extra click just to get to edit is just objectively bad design.
It's not @Glitch's design, though, I realize. Far as I know he's just updating us to the latest version of the software, but whoever's developing it... meh.
-
Agreed. The entire look is horrible. The design sucks. It's not at all user friendly or intuitive. Be nice to migrate the database to some decent forum software. But since I have no idea how that's done, I can't even offer to do it.
