RE: RL Anger
I found out today that I probably officially have Ankylosing Spondylitis. I say probably because there's no official test but I do carry the HLA antigen that is strongly associated with the disease, so this is not entirely a surprise. The worst outcome is that my spine slowly fuses together but that's pretty rare, but I do have to worry about my immune system deciding it hates my eyes and attacking them ded. Mostly, the general ache in my back that I've been sucking down Tylenol for in the last few years now has a name.
It's a form of arthritis, but at least now my insurance will more willingly pay for a nerve block while this shit gets sorted out. However, I've been told that I'm probably going to have to give up running, which I'm not sure how I feel about that yet. Luckily, this sort of thing sees no greater relief from any sort of surgical intervention and that was my bigger fear. Something something about a doctor with a knife being near my spinal cord. No fucking thanks.
That neck pain I've been ignoring for a couple years has just been my cervical spine decorating itself with bone spurs. So that's... festive? On the upside, my MRI images look pretty metal.

RE: RL Anger
In the most innocent of intentions, I can totally see wanting your mother's wedding ring after she passes away. However, that all gets shot in the face when you take it off her immediately after she dies. Gross. Gross. Gross. Wow. I'm sorry.

A co-worker just gave me their Pax Prime pass.
Eeeeeee.

RE: RL Anger
At this point, I'll be persuaded into literally almost anything.

RE: RL Anger
I am angry because it is unreasonably hot and no one here has air conditioning.
I am angry because some poopstick is going to buy a bunch of fireworks from the rez and set them off into some tinder dry brush and burn down this stupidly hot land.
And we still won't have air conditioning.

RE: The Black Watchmen
Huh. Well now I know.
I think I'll wait and buy that Telltale Borderlands riff instead.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
I'm from a part of the South that has remained economically ruined by the Civil War since the Civil War. This is, in general, most of the South outside of most major cities, which by their nature were able to find some other primary economic mode post-Civil War.
I don't live there now. I have no plans to return.
I look at confederate flags and just feel queasy because its one facet of an entire spectrum of deluded denial. I look at confederate flags and associate it heavily with the Confederate Catechism, which is a pretty horrifying shit-show of a Neo-Confederate propaganda piece because well, they're often associated. Its a jaw dropping piece of Neoconfederate propaganda that is alive and well in parts of the South. There was a time not all that long ago that it was taught in some schools.
There are several reasons why I left the South; this is but one but a big one.
Most people who fly the confederate flag who are deluded enough to think its about rebellion and the highest order of bootstrapping underdog ideology have no fucking clue what they're blathering about.
A note: If you want to go look up the Confederate Catechism, be warned that the only 'copy' online that I'm aware of that you don't have to pay for is hosted by the SCV, a Neo-Confederate group website, who lives on the Southern Poverty Law Center's hate group watch list. There may be other places but just be aware of where the internet rabbit hole might take you.

The Black Watchmen
This just released on Steam. I'm intrigued but also unsure if I should wait a while or skip it entirely. Anyone have any thoughts or reviews?

Bingo at the Indian Casino.
Classy as fuck.
(No I mostly cannot explain this. Well kind of, which is: Bingo halls are the epitome of hopelessly unable to put on any sort of pretense. It's so come as you are and we're all here to strictly not give a fuck that its kind of liberating.)

RE: Sexual themes in roleplay
Poly in RP: I've never tried it. I think it's probably a very bad idea if you don't have a pretty good handle on yourself as a self and your ability to handle the inherent insecurities and jealousies that will result or if you already know that you as a player aren't good with this kind of varsity-level person sharing. From everything I've been witness to about poly relationships in character/in games it seems to largely take the player's personality flaws, seal them in a bag with hornets, and then beats that bag with a stick. It's impossible to have fun in character with IC Relationship Twister if you're just tortured and miserable as a player.
That said, the venn diagram of gamers and polyamory is a thing so it happens a fair amount. The success rate of it usually ain't great.
Vampire Sex: It mostly depends on the clan and the rules system nWoD v. oWoD. Certain clans in both old/new have progressive ideas about the role and use of sex, but its largely always a lever being pulled to get another means to an end. For example, some Tremere Houses in oWoD canon have an interest in sex as it fits into magical practice but its not about wibbly bits, just magical study. The Daeva in Requiem use sexuality to feed.
It also depends on the age of the character. A neonate is probably going to be more likely to have some interest in sex but I've always seen it as a remnant of their humanity and biological programming. Much older vampires tend to have no use for it and have stopped taking notice a long time ago.
But vampire players are people and we're all biologically driven towards sex, so no matter what the canon might suggest we do, some people always gonna textfuck in vampire. It's just one of those things.

RE: Python Tutorials?
I have 2.5 Suggestions:
In book form: Hello World. It's python code book intended for kids but half the adult Python coders I know learned at least from the book. The book is written very well, its very comprehensive, and I endorse it. The only possible downside is I don't know if its updated for Python 3 but it might be. (http://www.amazon.com/Hello-World-Computer-Programming-Beginners/dp/1617290920
In website form: Learn Python The Hard Way http://learnpythonthehardway.org/ - I know several people who have done well in learning it this way.
Pyladies! (http://www.pyladies.com/) I'm not sure where you live but this organization is for Python programmers with lady parts. They teach free or donation suggestion boot camps around the country and have meet ups. It's great for learning, getting questions answered, and networking if you're going to be looking at coding jobs once you're done with school (or before).

RE: What's That Game's About?
@Coin Oh yeah, I figured and there are plenty of people who take that suggestion literally. Still, at least one werewolf tribe and one bloodline in the Gangrel actively encourage playing this trope. It's not necessarily the brightest choice but its a choice enough people make.

What I would like to see is tighter theme control. No, your werewolf is not a fucking viking. No, your vampire is not a fucking viking, ignorant of the modern world, unless they're a thousand years old and have been in a dungeon for 800 years of that.
Unfortunately, I can't complain that people shouldn't play irritating, dirt-humping Acolyte pseudo-primitives. I can say that I had my fill of them on HM, but the covenant's geared that way, so.
Meh. If someone wants to play a viking-themed character, why not? Its what they want to do and it doesn't really hurt anything. Someone sees a cable tv show and gets inspired to play a character based on what they saw. At least they sorta have a direction.
No different than biker/gang concepts and the ever present Sons of Anarchy PBs. If you don't want to deal with that sort of character, don't RP with them. Their idea of fun doesn't have to follow someone else's. Its a game with werewolves, vampires and faeries. Is a viking really that far afield, all things considered?
Yeah, I mean, playing a meatwall dumbfuck viking is the themeatic jam of the Get of Fenris. There are plenty of players that opt do more intelligent things with Get werewolves and kinfolk but the bedrock theme of Get of Fenris is a reductive, meatloaf for brains, glass cannon Sven, who like to hit the fuck out of things, if you can't come up with anything else at all.

It all comes down to the Approval and the Staffer who does so. A lot of games are fearful of approaching new players to their game for a conversation about their concept. So the concepts slide into home plate, one after the other.
What? This statement is nonsense.
Yeah, literally the only place I've ever played where someone basically failed to say anything about my concept was TR. I tend not to play bonkers concepts anyway but I've gotten constructive feedback and concerns, regardless of how it may hurt my fee fees, on every game I've apped into.

RE: What's That Game's About?
I agree with @Coin with the caveat that there are games out there that completely make ways of getting Renown, the insidiousness of Demon, and the machinations of Vampire without incentive. Largely it boils down to players themselves being unwilling to have their pretendy times interrupted by actual theme and staff being avoidant and cowardly about enforcing theme or actively shaming players for trying. It just becomes a soulsucking fool's errand and at some point, you just get tired of struggling against a current where its all supernatural boinking and marriage telenovelas and people flipping the fuck out OOC that their pillow fort is being disturbed....
...largely by taking a squating shit all over you OOC until you give up.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
@BetterJudgment I am admittedly really hesitant to do this. Calling is a life ruining event for people who are not doing anything wrong. I just don't have enough information at this point.
