Real talk, I kinda want them to just give the role to Tyler Hoechin. He's killing it on the CW.

Real talk, I wanted Grant Gustin to play the Flash in the movies. Of course that was during the first couple of seasons but still - it'd have been fun!

I dunno. One the one hand, I think that HR is a loudmouthed, self-justifying shitpile.

Unlike the rest of us shining examples of humankind here?

I've seen HR go out of his way to help people then never mention it anywhere. That's way better than most folks who either never do anything for others or if they do, they feel the urge to shamelessly use the fact to promote themselves.

I just watched The Boys' season 2 finale.

It was great! The only thing I begrudge about the show is some weaker acting in the midst of some otherwise really well done scenes. For example
Dominique McElligot (who plays Queen Maeve) really couldn't keep up with Antony Starr. It was pretty telling.

Otherwise great stuff, let's see what season 3 will bring!

@Wizz HR is wrong all the time. Disagreeing with him is a sign of good judgment, not to mention mental health.

Listen, the strange women lying in ponds distributing swords have spoken. It's not a perfect system of government but it's been proven to work.

Girl, 8, pulls a 1,500-year-old sword from a lake in Sweden.

    • RE: Alternative Lords & Ladies Settings

Another take on Lords and Ladies could be to introduce a level of strategic planning to it.

One of my peeves about settings like that, for some time, was that there was no cost to anything. Every other noble PC walks around throwing gold at problems; if Jane comes asking Jim for some ships to move her good he can just... give it since there's an inexhaustible supply. Here, have some imaginary ships, lady!

Similarly there's no downside in being nice. Hey peasants, I lowered your taxes! Love me! Which means playing cutthroat, cynical characters with an eye toward making money and using it to gain political advantages (think Littlefinger from Game of Thrones) doesn't give any edge over honorable ones (like Eddard Stark), and that ultimately cheapens both; honor is cheap without sacrifice, and bastardy is just dumb because... you act like an asshole IC yet get nothing to show for it.

I'd love to see a setting where clever players managing their estates well is meaningful and gets them the upper hand. Treating serfs well makes one popular - which grants bonuses - but empty coffers also translate to disadvantages that have to be played around.

Anyway. Lords and ladies. Resources. Meaningful choices. I'd like to see a good take on it.

Fellow four-eyed nerds who also wear facemasks!

Do your glasses fog up when you breathe? If so have you found any ways to fix this? It bugs me, but the reviews for anti-fog sprays on Amazon show... iffy results at best.

A setting where every sentient can conceive and carry a child, with control of conception.

To be honest it surprises me the second part at least isn't a default option.

Games that enforce pregnancies are weird. That's not even kink-shaming. It's just... weird. And kinda misogynistic, frankly.

My oldest dog is... getting up there in age. Sometimes she takes a while to get up, she's pretty deaf, and she's clearly sore despite the pain medication.

I remember her as an overactive puppy pulling cables out of my walls and barely touching the floor when she had the zoomies and bounced from couch to couch. She used to jump up the bed and demand to be under the covers, but now she can't quite stand up with the weight of a blanket on top of her.

This might be her final winter. I don't know what's worse - having to make the call, or finding her gone.

      Dammit all.

    • Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff

This is a thread just for weird stuff that happens as a result of playing RPGs. They can be about mechanics, the very fact these are games in the first place, that players sometimes get busy, unrealistic mechanics, whatever.

So for example I was talking about this with my university roommate. Our party had received a mission to go infiltrate a no-mans-land kind of territory, locate and kill an evil dude then get back to college a large reward. Simple, right?

This being a game, of course the team suffered... some casualties. One character died and his PC was replaced by another. Then a second guy died. A third. Each of them were quickly replaced by folks we just happened to meet on the way there, who we found tied to a tree, etc.

But the party still had a singular goal - the evil dude needed to die, and die he did!

So in the end we went back to the original quest NPC who looked at us and went "uh who the fuck are you people?" since not a single member of the original group was still alive. There just like, four people she had never seen before who popped up and demanded she honors a deal to someone else and pass the gold. 🙂

      What's your story?

Well, there are reports of patients denying COVID-19 is real, even as they die from it so at this point I'm not sure, short of laws forcing them to obey measures with strict penalties if they don't, that counting on even basic common sense to prevail will work.

      It's always Maximillian and Lillian.

@faraday said in Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff:

The general indifference to wounds and deaths in both RPGs has always kind of baffled me. I get that everyone wants to be the hero, but even John McClaine was feeling it when his feet got shredded. And even though YOU know that your character has luck points/fate points/a kind GM or a FS3 combat system that won't kill you, your PC doesn't know that. They should maybe not be quite so reckless all the time.

My peeve is the opposite! It's the people wanting the attention from those wounds, and who will milk it to the extreme.

Most people whose PCs get a couple of dots of lethal damage? They may pose a couple of times about wincing as they sit, or just heal it in the background.

Some people will pose limping into an otherwise normal scene with garish (but always attractive or internal) injuries for which they require someone's immediate help lest they fade away.

Also laws. Laws just can't work the way they do in real life without messing up.

You die - but you become sentient undead. Do you legally lose all of your belongings? Do they go to your next or kin? What if you are resurrected, and back to the living, but your possessions have already been given away?

How do you even apply laws when there are spells, curses and magic that can make you do things against your will? How do you prove someone wasn't made to stab their friend in the back?

Some races live far longer than others. What is the age of consent!

Don't get me /started/ on the privacy issues mind-reading or scrying creates. How about prophecies? There are some real Minority Report-level headaches there.

Worried about gun ownership? How about your former adventurer neighbor who has a legendary artifact hanging on his wall as a souvenir from the good ol' days, and he's getting senile... so who knows what's gonna happen if he messes with it.

@insomniac7809 said in Balancing wizards and warriors:

But in a system where, say, investigation and diplomacy are given just as much mechanical weight as the murdery bits, there's nothing wrong with having the PC who kills things real good getting to dominate the scene, in the same way Sherlock Perot gets to shine in the locked room murder scenario and Wilhelmina Foppingtin XIV gets to rock in the socialite ball.

The typical issue with this scenario is that in scenes your diplomat and my fireball-bot will both end up socially engaging other PCs, discussing politics, asking for favors, etc - and typically players don't throw dice for these.

However come time for combat guess who's gonna throw the biggest fireball, baby!
