I enjoyed our RP on BITN (I was Arwen). Was fun having another deaf PC to RP with. 🙂

Updated. Trying a Werewolf over on Reno.

Also moved Threads of Pern back to the active list since it's picked up and Search is actually happening soon.

      More characters than I've had in a long time. Dunno if I'll be able to keep it all up. ;.;

Now if only they'd throw out Sirens and realize none of us want to see the Suicide Squad version of Harley continue.

      Or at least I don't.

Give us Birds of Prey maybe? Like, we wanna talk Batgirl, let's fast forward to Oracle-era Babs.

You're avoiding the very clear, basic question.

Then make it a bit more clear for me, please, because I don't see where I've avoided answering anything.

Go back to @faraday's post and replace BSG cultures with your RL equivalent race of choice.

      Voila.

    • RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.

So in my comic class, I had to learn how to letter comics. It's not easy, but I found I enjoyed it.

And I recently posted on FB because I know comic artists and I know people who know artists... to say hey, if you or anyone you know ever needs a letterer, lemme know.

And a chick replied to be like: 'if you don't do it all by hand, you're just a graphics editor.'

Me: 'Uh. They haven't done lettering by hand in the industry since the early/mid industry.'

Her: 'Well us indie artists do it by hand and I know mainstream artists who do it by hand.'

I told her if she wants to look down her nose at me, she can. I'll survive.

But still, ffs. And you know why you're indie artists and generally stay that way? Because hand lettering usually looks like shit because none of you put the time, effort, or thought into it that the letterers back in the day did. You just slap some letters down without thought for important things like kerning. I know a shit. ton. about hand lettering. I love the hell out of calligraphy. And you dicks put the least thought into lettering out of all of your art.

So sit there and sneer about 'letterers' all you want. Your 'indie comics' are zines you print out at Kinkos, staple, and sell for $2 at punk shows. They aren't even the official indie comic industry, WHICH BY THE WAY USES LETTERERS WHO USE ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR.

ETA: And yes I know that's what her comics are because I've seen and never bought them. Why? Because you couldn't read shit. BECAUSE THE INK BLED INTO ALL THE WORDS. Go figure that paying attention to spacing, having wide enough openings on your a's, e's, etc was important. But what do I know. I don't 'actually' letter.

@collective said in How should IC discrimination be handled?:

@auspice I am not trying to stir shit. I am, I will admit, disagreeing with the majority of the people I'm talking to here on this topic.

If that's a problem and unwelcome, I will be happy to close my user account here and go away.

I had rather assumed that this wasn't the old WORA and that constructive conversation is allowed and welcomed, even when people don't (and won't) agree. If not, obviously I'm in the wrong place.

I've been watching you say the same things in different ways for the past number of days while constantly adjusting the goal posts.

      That's not constructive.

I'm shocked people keep trying because it's abundantly clear that you care very little about their opinions.

      ETA:
@collective said in How should IC discrimination be handled?:

I had rather assumed that this wasn't the old WORA

And things like this aren't helpful at all. They're intended to try to get an 'OMG WE'RE NOT OLD WORA AT ALL HOW DARE YOU' so you can sit back and go 'Oh dear why are you so riled up and emotional now?'.

People have been trying to be constructive, helpful, and even find middle grounds. You have steadfastly dug your heels in. They're not going to jump to your side of the fence, so it may be time to step away.

It's a Battlestar Galactica game set during the 1st war. Meaning while having seen the show is useful, it's not required. Faraday's done fantastic work providing all you need to know on the wiki and most of us on the game (I'm Niemec there) are happy to help answer questions. 🙂

if it's not demanding the spotlight because of the attention the addict needs and the trouble they tend to cause in the lives of the people around them

This isn't true of all addicts, either. It can often depend on the person and the stage of addiction. And the type of addiction. But I totally get where you're coming from.

For many it's set dressing. And that desire, too, for viewing it as a cheap flaw for extra XP.

    • RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff

      Double post, don't care.

      I hate my legs.
I hate whatever is wrong with my legs.
I hate that the last round of 'doctors and specialists and tests, oh my!' years ago came out with 'shrug? maybe it's some atypical fibro symptom.'

They hurt. Just about all the time. Most of the time it's just a deep ache, down in the bone (which is why the fibro thing is hinky; that's usually just muscular). Sometimes that pain gets so bad all I can do is lie down and focus on remembering to breathe.

Some days, I wake up and can barely walk. Today is one of those days. I get up, stand up, and... fall over. Proceed to spend the rest of the morning making sure I'm near a wall for when one (or both) my legs invariably begins to give out.

This happens. I know it happens. I'm just especially bummed out because yesterday I had a good day. I felt good. I was about as pain free as I get. If I hadn't been at work, I probably would have tried finding someone to go out to a park or something with me.

Days like this also cost me more because they mean I definitely can't walk/bus to work and taking the bus most of the way home is dicey, too. Here's hoping car situ gets worked out soon.

@thenomain said in Code systems that make it easier to get on with the business of roleplaying:

A more advanced weather system might be fun for the coder, but I doubt it would enhance gameplay.

I mean, it may be a pretty even split? I know on modern day games, a lot of people end up going to the regional Weather.com or Wunderground.com page to locate current weather, moon phase, etc. before starting RP. I do and I know a lot of other people who do as well.

Being able to just hit +weather/+time and have it on game, gleaned from the API from one of those sites? Would be amazing. Again, unfun to code (for older codebases, I imagine), but amazing.

    • PBs You Haven't Had a Chance to Use

Has there been a PB you desperately want to use, but you've never had the opportunity?

I choose PBs based on the character. I have general parameters in mind (race, hair color, maybe eye color, etc etc.), but they have to fit a right look. I suppose similar to the "period face" thread. I always just know the PB is right when I see them.

Which means sometimes, an actor or actress languishes for a while before I get to use them. And others... others I never seem to get to use.

Like Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who is just so dang cute:
