Ahh, the first time I saw something of mine stolen. Another game lifted my entire policy and submission structure / guidelines for plots. And was going around bragging on it (which is how it was found out).

I went to them and was like 'Alright. I don't care that you're using it; it means it's probably a good system and it works. But you could have asked. You could have attributed it to me.'

...the twat continued to insist it was theirs, despite being word-for-word what was on the game I designed it for (we later found they'd copied our entire grid, too).

I've never understood it, really. In this hobby, most of us are totally fine sharing so long as someone asks or at least gives proper attribution. Hell, just use it and if someone asks later, admit where it came from.

I've been playing a Grayson for all of... one scene. Never really interacted with Gareth.

Kinda glad about it now.

Even before everything else was revealed here, I'm looking back to one of his first posts. He's upset he lost work on 'solving the plot' (which he admits wasn't even yet 'released')... on a game that's still in alpha.

I'm sorry, but that's not even someone I want to play with. The person who games systems and takes every advantage they can find so they get to 'win the MU*.' Yeah, no. Those people have traditionally just ruined the fun for me if they're in the same faction/family/whathaveyou that I am. Mostly because it invariably turns into me getting OOCly pestered to do the same gaming of the system they are.

Anyway. I think enough should be kept within a setting to allow for strife that is positive towards story and interaction. Run from a family who doesn't accept you. Use someone's nationality as reason to kick up a fight when you're already at odds with their group/house/ship/whathaveyou. But keep it IC and play within the theme.

On a piracy game, I expect to see someone who may struggle with acceptance of their sexuality, but I don't expect it to be "Well you're not a gold star lesbian therefore you suck".

And people should try to be on the same page, even if that page is just "PCs are the open minded members of society". I was on a game once where LGBT was wholly acceptable socially, but one player insisted on playing that his character was ostracized and marginalized for being gay. The dissonance was frustrating because hey there's a flamboyantly gay man there, a lesbian couple over there, and then this dude... crying ICly over all the dicrimination .

I'll just say... I haven't yet seen you actually own your shit.

I've seen you say a lot of 'Well, I guess people may think that,' 'Maybe you interpreted it that way,' etc..

A lot of excuses and redirection of blame, but no actual 'Woah, yeah, that was my bad, I'm sorry.'

Well, this is the opposite of what I was thinking and I apologize if my concept didn't come across.

I mean more allow/focus on NPCs being the ones to dish out the discrimination (rather than be on the receiving end). That way people don't feel pressured (though I'd still allow it) for their PC to have certain views and no one has to worry about things like 'Is Bob's player actually sexist or...?'

But it'd allow for scenarios like... the pirate ship on T8S has an ex-slave on it. A competing (NPC) pirate crew could use that as the basis to pick a fight. Or to lob insults. Which could have the benefit of bringing the PC crew closer together.

I had my whore PC hassled in the street by a pirate one day and he brought up her nationality (a native), her 'place' in society, etc.. It was an NPC flinging insults and slurs, which gives the PCs something to latch onto (should they wish).

Bad reviews aren't (look at the Stranger Than Fiction thread). Bad reviews full of insults, inflammatory language, and other, well, Hog Pit-esque behavior may well end up there.

Plenty of people on the board have shown themselves able to say 'this game is garbage don't go there' without, y'know, using some of the personally insulting language that turns everything into a dumpster fire.

That's all people are asking, man. Word your negative review without going, for example, '...and everyone who sets foot on this game is a rapist and puppy kicker.'

I mean of course that's gonna set people off and two pages later, we're forking it off to the Hog Pit because we don't have enough fire extinguishers on hand.

It might help others bring their best efforts to making something you will both enjoy, without sounding like a diva/creeper/bad thing of the day.

I'm totally in the 'this is my problem' camp here. When a game is really big, I feel lost and have a hard time connecting with people unless I have an OOC connection (like a channel). The Public channel on Arx is hugely spammy, so I tend to keep it off.

I prefer scenes with less than 5 people because I'm usually either dealing with work or school stuff. That's where the overwhelmed comes from. Once a scene gets big and busy, I simply cannot keep up with it.

The only times I recall seeing 'that's not constructive' trotted out have been:

• Someone flinging personal insults at the person they disagree with (rather than any conscious counter-argument).
• Someone posting shit just for the sake of trolling / fanning the flames (without providing any actual content other than the troll).

I think we can all agree neither of those are constructive, yeah?

I think the main thing right now is for my RL to die the hell down.

Work + school + traveling makes a busy game hard to keep up on. I think that may be part of the issue. I'm in a state of 'I can casually RP in small scenes' and a lot of things on Arx move faster than I can keep up with.

Curiously, one of those was shortly after you came on to me OOCly shortly after our characters got together and I evaded it (because, well, creepy much?)... I go away IRL for the weekend and suddenly... your character dies in a +event.

On a game in which character death isn't a thing unless a player explicitly wants their character to die.

Oh fuck. I sadly fell victim to his lies and had even left BSO for a while because of them. Thankfully Dropkick is a sweetheart and let me return once I got hit upside the head by a self-induced clue-by-four and came back.

He was. BSO even has a whole policy named after this guy now, since he evaded his ban as Zachary/Auggie to go back as Alastair/Marcus.
