RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
You know the answer to those who can type fast enough to railroad everyone?
'Don't be a dick.'
I like 3pr because there always seems to be that one person taking 20-30 minutes to pose that you just wait and wait and wait and people have to leave and...
3pr. Don't be a dick.
It's not that hard. And if someone's being a dick? Call them out on it. Don't turn around and punish everyone else.

RE: Sensitive cultural/political/religious aspects of game themes.
I can work with a 'So you can play this concept, but understand that NPCs (and perhaps some PCs) will look at you sideways.'
That's how I see the Shadowhunters one. Or how I see medieval-esque themes where 'Women rarely enter these roles, so it's an allowed concept, but it might net you some difficulties with NPC authority figures.'
Those can be a lot of fun. I like strife in my story. My character has to overcome prejudice? Gimme!
But yes, when it's more: you cannot play this there's no way that would evar be allowed... then I'm out. Give people the opportunity, but make sure they understand that they may face IC backlash for it. I've done that on games and had an -awesome- time of it.

RE: The Crafting Thread
I am at least using this time during the pandemic to finish the projects I start. It's one thing to be proud of.

@faraday This is how I view it. I don't mind it; if I do mind it then I'll say something. The littler stuff I just roll with, and expect others to roll with as well. And if they don't wanna, then they're free not to, and I won't take offense. I generally don't see the point in dancing around every possible instance of something someone might consider a power-pose.
I honestly don't give af if someone poses something like 'Bob pats Auspice on the shoulder.'
Because if it's an issue, I can just as easily go 'Auspice shifts away before Bob can touch her.'
For me, powerposing is when it's shit like 'Dave stabs at Bill and Bill falls screaming to the floor.' and I like to think the people on the games I'm on have evolved past that.

Hard to say. Disney started holding LGBTQ friendly events at their parks, in the early 90s, long before most other corporations jumped on the bandwagon. For a long time it was one of the few employers in FL to recognize "domestic partners" (marriage was illegal at the times) and allow people to have their partners on their insurance. They've had a non discrimination policy on hiring workers in their parks and hotels long before non profits gave out scorecards. I know a handful of folks that started working for disney in the early 90s for that reason, and they're pretty rabid fans in many ways, even though I would not call Disney an unblemished employer for MANY other reasons. I think if you're of a certain generation and lived in FL in particular, I could see why someone might have a soft spot enough to get a tattoo like that, but I dunno, maybe the person is just combining stuff that he likes, too.
One of my closest friends when I was in SC is a lesbian. She loves Disney. She tries to go to their gay pride events every year. She focuses on her love of Disney movies, of the experience, etc. She knows and acknowledges that the company has problems, but it's also brought her together with people she loves and cares about.
She also has a rainbow Mickey tattoo.
ETA: to some people, their experiences define it more than the corporate.

RE: What do you WANT to play most?
Once @faraday is ready for more people to use AresMUSH and the new FS3 stuff, I will more than likely be starting a Magicians game.
I've got a lot of it knocking around in my head. I even know how I'd structure FS3. But I am shit at code.

RE: Course Corrections
I give no fucks when it's used within a pose as a contextual reference for the player.
'The shirt is gunmetal grey.' in a description. Cool, got it.
vs.
"So, I want you to make sure that my doubtlet is gunmetal grey in the painting," Lord McFarty crooned to the artist.
"What is this... gunmetal you speak of, m'Lord?"
<OOC> Lord McFarty says, "wtf don't you know what a gun looks like?!"
It's two very different things.

RE: Difficulty of single-player computer games
Won't lie. I go with Easy. Sometimes Normal, but I play to relax. Like video games are where I go to kick back, shut my brain off, and just forget work/school. I don't ant no goddamn difficulty.

Rules of Engagement
This board is to be utilized for Game Development discussions.
- Threads to discuss system dev, theme dev, et al
- Threads to discuss potential new games
- Threads to discuss code base potentials ("Would this base or this work better for my game?")

Discussions on this board should be kept to creative discourse. Disagreements are, of course, to be expected, but they should be kept to a professional capacity: disagree with the idea, not the person. Attack the idea, not the person. Posts containing personal attacks will be deleted.

RE: Pokemon Go
Some churches def. do.
The church my family attended when I was in my early teens handed out like, pamphlets once on the 'dangers of the Pokemon cult.' V. similar to the HeMan shit in the 80s.
But then you get stuff like:

I mean it's just more Amos appreciation which I can completely get behind.
He and Avasarala are my far-and-away favs. So many of the characters are great, but those two...
The moment between Amos and Chrisjen in the most recent season when he's showing her how to use magboots and she's all "How do you know how to walk in heels?" and he's like "I didn't always work in space."
is pretty much the best thing ever.

Mundane Super Powers
I'm bored and procrastinating, so... topic time!
What's your mundane super power(s)?
Mine are:
- Can insert the USB correctly on the first try 90% of the time
- Can fold a fitted sheet

RE: MU* Server Technology/Features. What do you WANT, what do you SEE?
This is something that can get people very hot-headed, I admit (and I'm one of them >.>).
I am very much in the camp of liking where we're at because my experiences with forum RP and Storium haven't been very good. Not one single Storium game I've been in has ever gotten past the initial setup / "scene." Any forum RP I've been in has floundered or been very short-term. MU has been the only time I've ever been able to really engage in long-term stories.
It's also the only way to really get things done in a short period of time. If I need to wait days or weeks for people to reply, I'm gonna lose the thread/interest myself. I gdoc with people sometimes (when there's scheduling issues, for backscenes, etc.) and by and far, if more than 2-3 days pass between poses? The scene is considered dead.
The other thing there: accessibility, as you said. You need to think in the other definition. Not 'accessibility to a broader audience,' but accessibility to devices (a lot of forums, 'neat' websites, etc. scale very poorly to mobile phones, but I've known people to run WoD combat from a tablet!) and accessibility to the disabled community. MUs are accessible to blind users. I'm not sure other formats are. The last I used Storium for example, it was very image heavy and had a fairly complex interface. I'd hate to see MUs switch over just to maybe gain new blood, but lose some of our long-time players who are there because it's a form of gaming they can access.
The web-interface built into some of the new codebases like Ares I think is a great meeting of the two. You don't lose what we have and what works while bridging in some of the 'new.' And while you get that great web experience (web CG, being able to interact over the web, etc) on Ares... you can also do everything from within the classic telnet client itself without needing to go on the web portal (which makes it beautifully accessible to people who have to use screen readers!).

@kumakun said in MU* Server Technology/Features. What do you WANT, what do you SEE?:
Is it maybe the 'client' that needs improvement or needs improvement as well?
I definitely think a new/improved client would be fantastic.
Mudrammer for iOS is pretty good, but has its flaws.
I don't think any of the Android clients out there are really all that great. I hear nothing but complaints about them. I used Mukluk when I had an Android and only because it was the least bad of the lot. I know on ChromeOS there is only Duck Client and I know people struggle with it to no end.So in the arena of "mobile clients" for tablets/mobile devices, there is definitely something lacking and that makes approachability (I think that term vs. accessibility is probably preferable to help differentiate) difficult.
