...with GoT done and a short wait until the Deadwood movie, I'm actually watching Deadwood for the first time starting now.

On Ssn1Ep1 right now on my TV. I don't normally go for westerns, but I like it. McShane and Olyphant are wonderful in this so far. McShane is actually so good in this it's mesmerizing.

I've actually been thinking of doing the same thing.

I missed Deadwood the first time round due to lack of cable. Then I refused because I know the story just...stops since it got cancelled. But now that it's getting a movie, I've been thinking of diving in.

@Arkandel said in Engaging the Whole Scene:

I've had people explicitly take themselves out of plotlines because they couldn't be the stars in it.

At that point, it's probably for the best that they do.

We all want to be stars. It's human nature. Even the shy people- perhaps especially the shy people since it's easier to bear the attention online than IRL.

The point is to learn to share. You can't be the star all the time, but if you're willing to share and support other peoples' moments of stardom, you'll often find that you get it in return.

but my two are almost exactly two years apart (two years, four days)

That's similar-ish to me and my brother, except it's 8 years and 2 days.

My parents' solution: 'You're 8, that's old enough to not have parties anymore.' So my 8th birthday party was ... actually both the first (#growinguppoor) and last I ever had. So good on y'all for struggling through getting it done when you have twins or kids with close birthdays.

Because it really sucked to get the sort of things I did. Every year that followed was stuff like: 'we'll take you out to dinner one night.' (I'd have even enjoyed just having a couple friends over for a sleepover) 'The family vacation this year is your birthday gift!' etc etc.

Seriously, pro tip: don't ask an older sibling to 'give up their birthday.' They will, out of love for the younger sibling, but it sucks and eats away at them. I know it did for me and anyone else I've ever met who got similar treatment felt the same.

but no sexual situations or violence beyond an R-rating should be posted to the website.

One thing I asked on SGM was that anything above a PG-13 rating be tagged (Ares makes this easy with the content tags) for those who read logs at work. Basically: yes we're an R-rated game, but we also know a lot of people like to browse, hang out, and read logs at work, so be mindful of them and just tag it.

If somebody likes something that you don't (or vice-versa)

This is a thing that drives me mad.

I have had people literally end friendships with me because I won't like something they do.

Part of why I got rid of my Facebook is I was tired of being bullied for enjoying sports. Which, can I just take a moment to say that I love that we're some super hella nerdy folks around here and I like the fact that we have threads dedicated to sports? It's actually a large part of why I stick around MSB. For all the vitriol we can have sometimes, it's one of the few spaces I've found where I can nerd out but also discuss sportsball.

      @Bad-at-Lurking said in Model Policies?:

@Auspice That's probably a better policy, all the way around!

It's a policy I like because it lets people feel more free to both read and post logs. That way no one's left going 'ehhhhh can I post this? is it too gory/racy/etc.?' and no one's left stumbling across a section in a log that is not OK to be reading at work (or school or a friend's house or whatever).

Plus, I found players start to have fun with their tags. 😄

Also, I would suggest (and this is more for you than players) a policy that outlines that Staff are on the game to have fun also. Can include mentions that if a Staffer is on their PC, to not bother them with game stuff. That if Staff isn't having fun, they may take breaks. etc.

I am more adapted to mornings than I thought.

Slept in today, but still fucking exhausted as I got in the door at 11:30p. My goal is to be up and go for a hike tomorrow morning before work: we will see.

Also: fuck you dude who was sitting at the entrance gate when I got home. Complex has two exit gates and an entrance gate. They are intended to be one way. He was sitting there, vehicle dead center, just waiting for me to put in the code. Which I did and then swiftly moved my vehicle over to be well in his way.

Where I then sat. Until he moved. I don't care that he likely thought I'd sit and politely wait by the code box until he left. I don't care that he likely thought I'd move out of the way so he could depart. It is the fucking entrance gate. He's not supposed to use it as an exit. I stared his ass down until he backed up and out of the way so I could enter.

      no top-tier PC leadership.

a lot of non-WoD games actually follow this model already. WoD and L&L (though not all L&L!) are the only two that still consistently allow for PC in top-tier leadership roles, which does absolutely breed resentment in many ways.

On @faraday 's BSU, there were no PCs in explicit leadership roles. A PC might get tapped as a mission leader, but she controlled all the actual ranking/brass NPCs. It let everyone operate on a similar level and not worry about who is in charge of who, who isn't being a good leader, yadda yadda...

@L-B-Heuschkel said in Well, this sums up why I RP:

@Auspice Ares rocks, and this is indeed one of the reasons why. I recall editing pages of pages of prompts and game code out of logs by hand and yes, I'll cede that that might be one reason to only bother with the important bits.

I know I'm not the only one who checks help files, sheets, +finger, etc. while RPing. All stuff you can't shove to a spawn and auto-filter out of logs. It makes editing a hot mess.

      So pissed at third shift.

Told them when I left last night what was going on and what needed to be done. Like usual. Even left the hand written passdown notes. Like usual. The person I gave it to made a statement along the lines of 'Fuck that. I'm not doing all that.' I'd figured it was just hyperbolic sort of bitching because, well, what was being demanded of us was stupid but whatever. It came down from the boss' boss.

Got a call this morning from the boss saying that from now on, I need to stay until both members of third shift arrive to give my passdown because nothing that needed to be done was last night and the guy I gave the passdown to claimed he never received it and was, I quote, 'confused.'

When I arrived at work today, I found out that an hour after said call, my handwritten note had been found....Apparently having been hidden by someone on third (but not very well).

Indeed, yes, this guy had chosen not to do his job and when caught chose to blame me. First shift had my back tho and found the note and stood up for me by showing the boss and pointing out that he doubted I'd just leave without giving a proper passdown.

I'm still pissed tho. Just fucking own your shit.
