That fate level on DarkMetal was fascinating to me at first (I think I used a 3 when I played there) but mostly led to people wandering into the room, realizing I wasn't at a level where they could auto-kill me, and cussing me out at length before leaving.

      Fuck that shit.

ETA: @Auspice do you like rhythm games? They're very, very engrossing to my OCD brain, and each round is super short. That might be something you could do with friends.

      I love rhythm games.
Most of my friends do not. XD

I wish I could play more multiplayer games.

      Overwatch, Rocket League, etc.
I usually have to be drunk to play them (so as to shut up parts of my brain). Otherwise I end up wanting to alt-tab to this or look at that or do other things. Focusing on ONE THING for an ENTIRE MATCH (or consecutive matches ala Rocket League) is just beyond me. It's frustrating because I wanna play shit with my friends, but doing just one... single... thing... for hour(hours) on end is just beyond me.

I played League of Legends for a while and as the game environment evolved into these 45 minute, hour long matches I had to stop because I would end up so fidgety I'd get agitated and upset. It was a game I was pretty good at, too!

I haven't gone back to Elite Dangerous, either, even though I fucking love that game. I'm limited, really, to games with really short matches (maybe part of why I love Mario Kart so much?) or single-player pausable games because I just...... can't do things that require I focus on one thing for too long.

      I hate my brain.

Amazon really lets Chrisjen be who she is in the books in a way that SyFy did not (or could not).

Probably could not. Chrisjen swears like a sailor (and I love it).

Reading the books, btw, makes it all the more hilarious that Wes Chatham practically demanded to be Amos. (Tho from having read an interview, he'd only read the first book, began reading others during filming, but it started to affect his playing of Amos, so now he'll only read one book ahead ... which makes him kind of an adorable nerd IMO :P)

      I love T-Pain.
I actually figured out it was him early on in the first season lol. I knew he could sing because he sang the national anthem for the Dodgers years ago and me and some friends (who were fans of his) found a video of it and were like damn! We knew it! So that plus the clues....well, clued me in.

It had me rooting for him all season. I was thrilled he won. He did deserve it.

And I agree with you 100%.

I worked for Clear Channel when I was 19/20. Like. In their corporate offices (as a system admin thankfully so I got to see stuff from the sidelines). It taught me a lot about how shitty the industry is to these musicians. It's why I'll listen to just about anything. Why I won't hate someone just for the genre they play, for example. If they do something shitty as a person? Sure. But not for their music.

Another way to see this in action is to watch a music awards show. You can usually see these guys just rocking out to each other's music. Musicians love music and I think that's another part of why this show is so popular.

Unpopular opinion: Generic CofD 2e game where the defining feature is that staff just kind of stay out of your way and let you play the game without metaplot or too much staff-lead politics and stuff. >.>

tbh I told someone once that it'd probably be super popular to launch a CofD 2e game where you are largely just offering a MU TT-type environment that's persistent.

Provide a few 'settings' (New York, Old West, Victorian London, etc), give people the option to have multiple +sheets (so they can have one per-setting), then just sit back and maintain (approve characters/sheets, run any XP spends that need to be overseen, handle anything that needs mediation), and largely just let people play, run PRPs, etc.

ETA: because yes, while someone could just 'run an OTT,' part of the issue is scheduling. Part of why we like MUs is the casual RP. So if I can have the casual RP with the ability to have a big pool of players where I can just drop in and PLAY and this week have a plot with these people and next week a plot with THOSE people and not be beholden to someone's idea of a metaplot they're gonna get bored of in a month? that'd be great.

I know @Rinel has rough days re: kids sometimes and @silverfox had one recently.

So here's an example of a little boy being really awesome.

ETA: as comments pointed out, he set down his bag, which showed he was ready to wait out for a while if need be. He also walked back the way he came, so he walked PAST his home to get there.

Also, the girl's sister explained they live super close to the school. She knows the boy and his family. She just happened to lose track of time that day to pick up her sister and walk her home (these things happen!). It's just a super sweet thing he did.

@Auspice I was looking at that, how sturdy is it?

It's not OMG STURDY but it's pretty decent.
So the base is one of those cat scratching pads, then it's got a basic cardboard frame. Then a pair of cardboard beams to hold up the second level's pad. Ike weighs roughly ten pounds and she was rolling around up there (I put catnip down :P) and it didn't budge. It's finicky to assemble (what isn't?), but part of that issue is she was climbing all around the bottom half attacking my hands.

They both love it so far.

    • RE: RL things I love

So in the past few days, I've read a few stories (including that one on cheetahs 😕 ) about the mistreatments big cats suffer in/around Africa and it has made my heart hurt. So I reached out to my friend who is a charity streamer on Twitch to say 'hey, can your next big event be about this?'

(This guy does 4 big events a year. His goal, on Twitch, is to be 'the biggest charity streamer.' We're RL friends. He's amazing. He keeps a consistent stream schedule. He still keeps his RL job. His summer stream, he raised $17k for Children's Hospital. He has a partnership with Game Stop now, for example. The guy is outgoing, charismatic, and really, truly cares about what he does.)

I had Tweeted this at him since he's at TwitchCon rn. His reply was that he loves the idea and we should talk about it when he gets back. I mentioned I can think of 2 potential charities off the top of my head and can prob find more. Well, other streamers are already weighing in that they love the idea and viewers, even, are jumping in that they wanna see it happen, too.

Like, I'm all for the Extra Life stuff, but..... afaik no one's really done anything big to help these animals yet. If I could help get even a single event for that rolling, I'd be so happy. I love big cats. I love them to the extent that if I wasn't so damn science dumb (I have dyscaulculia so I struggle af when it comes to that shit) I probably would've gone into biology/zoology so I could work with them). So if I can be a catalyst that helps get money into their conservation efforts it will make my day/week/month/year. and the fact that a growing number of other people are into it, too, is all the better.

    • The Masked Singer

I figured it needed a thread.

Put discussions of actual unmasked singers under a spoiler tag. Theories can stay in the open cause they are just that: theories.

I have no real theories yet (mostly cause I am terrible at remembering celeb names). However, I think this season has some amazing costumes (I fucking love the Skeleton's design) but also some fucking terrible ones.

The tree is hideous and I'm mad I have to see it again, sorrynotsorry.

The Rottweiler has one of the best voices but I want him gone because I hate that costume so much. Maybe if it didn't have the fucking airbrushed abs. UGH.

ETA: also I may have a crush on Robin Thicke because of this show and his dad jokes / puns.

I know the other was important, but.

FWIW a bunch of my clients lost at trial (and face significant challenges in post-conviction) because of the testimony of mandated reporters. So it often does help children who need it.

      I know.
      I really do.

Look, I went through some shit in childhood because my parents were reported to CPS (and managed to get out of it and proceeded to make my life a living hell because even though I wasn't the one to report it they were and still are convinced I did). It's....... it's a messy system. In so many ways. Reporting is important. People being willing to report. People being willing to follow through.

And I think/guess my own experiences are why those sections were so difficult. It was difficult to read about the reporting. It was difficult to read about stuff like ADD and think 'jesus christ why did no one ever recognize this in me' but I guess/hope/pray I'll be better for the kids I teach someday.

I will say, part of why I'm really really glad to be doing through the classroom management sections of my certification stuff is that the childhood psychology section (which included all the legalities around when/what to report) was depressing, so I'm glad to be moving onto something that feels more... fun and productive.

I know the other was important, but.
