Feel your feelings! But at the end of the day, staff/storytellers are the custodians of the world and the story, and if they want to put a limit on the # of amputees, I figure it's because they have a high level overview and don't want new players coming in to be like "whoah, is this game haunted by npc goblins who come at night and consume limbs?"

Maybe it is and that plot just hasn't launched yet.

I was pretty bummed to realize elsethread how many people hate scheduling. It’s an extremely rare case in which I can just do pickup rp. I don’t like it either, but it’s kind of schedule or nothing for me at this point.

I am happy to schedule and in fact, I do sometimes put in my +finger notes (if games have them) that people can contact me to schedule. So if we ever run into each other on a game you can schedule with me. 🙂

there's very little more annoying than someone coming on RP Requests to say "Hey, anyone want to RP" and then when you say "Sure, what did you have in mind," they say "Oh, I don't know. You want to go to a bar?"

Yes, I honestly hate this v much.

      Person: 'Anyone wanna RP?'
Me: 'Sure! What did you have in mind!'
Person: 'I dunno. What do you wanna do?'

...Please don't put the onus on me, Person! You tossed out the idea to RP. Gimme a hook. An idea, a place, something. This is the entire reason why I'm hesitant, sometimes, to respond to such vague queries, because these days it's become more common than not that if I reply...... I'm suddenly the one who has to come up with everything. The location. The idea. The scene set. I feel like I'm their sole source of entertainment rather than a collaborator.

I am always open to RP with new people (and have made some great friends the past few years because of it), but I am one of these people with a limited schedule (I wake up at 5:45am right now! that's gonna change next week, but right now it means I cannot be up late).

So, I can't be just dithering around sitting in rooms waiting to RP. I can't just meander the grid.

I absolutely toss out a hook and a plan on channel: 'Hey, I'm going to <X> location to <whatever I wanna do>.'

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I find as time passes, as people get to know me, it works more and more. And it's more successful on smaller games where people are better able to get to know each other. Are we all 'close knit'? Naw. But we have a 'feel' for one another so it's not a scary dive into something wholly unknown. It's why I personally lean towards smaller games, tbh. I find a small game with a crowd that has similar-ish RP times to me nets more RP than a big game full of unknown factors. At least for me / in my experience.

...with GoT done and a short wait until the Deadwood movie, I'm actually watching Deadwood for the first time starting now.

On Ssn1Ep1 right now on my TV. I don't normally go for westerns, but I like it. McShane and Olyphant are wonderful in this so far. McShane is actually so good in this it's mesmerizing.

I've actually been thinking of doing the same thing.

I missed Deadwood the first time round due to lack of cable. Then I refused because I know the story just...stops since it got cancelled. But now that it's getting a movie, I've been thinking of diving in.

    • RE: Disabilities and Mental Illness as Character Traits

@Arkandel said in Disabilities and Mental Illness as Character Traits:

@Auspice The thing is though there are legitimate fantasy tropes based on disabilities that are overcome. The blind archer, old and frail martial artist, slow-witted but massive warrior are pretty standard ideas.

Yes, but they work around the disability.
The disability isn't just magically suspended put of convenience.

The blind archer still has a handicap and someone utilizing a lot of noise can overcome him (some of Daredevil's enemies in Marvel have done exactly this and he is so far beyond mortal Ken, but he still has limitations!).

    • RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.

I'm moving to second shift at work after this coming week. It's a good thing. I need the money (it'll be 40 hours vs 32). I had an interview the other day that went 'okay' for another job (I'm being considered as backup if anyone else falls through), so I can't bank on anything coming of it. So I need to do this.

But I like the guys I work with on first shift a lot. I'll miss them.

And I've liked being on first. I have the rest of my day free. By the time I'm done with chores, errands, etc it's still light out. When I do want to be social, I can. I'm able to be around for all the RP.

Now? I'm gonna be back to struggling to get errands done (doing errands before work is always a dicey thing because you risk running late). I won't be able to socialize during the week at all. I'll only be able to attend +events that are on weekends.

But at least I'll be (marginally) more financially stable..

    • RE: Disabilities and Mental Illness as Character Traits

I also don't feel comfortable when someone has a disability for their character and they always have an 'escape' written in (is wheelchair bound, but can walk sometimes, is blind, but can see shapes and light now and then... etc.) that always comes into play when it's... convenient.

The blind character somehow has a high Alertness and for 'visual' type Alertness rolls (because I could see it being factored as a sound/smell thing!) they explain it as 'oh it's that one time they can see something!' or for that wheelchair bound char, in a combat scene or something, they're able to walk! They fight for that scene and go back to their wheelchair after (or worse: crumple to the ground and need everyone's help for an extra-dramatic post-fight scene).

Like I see these characters sometimes where the disability is a 'prop' for social RP and it's just handwaved away during plot/combat scenes. That's why I get uncomfortable about the rise in use. When you have a disability, it is always there. And I know 'fun' comes into play, too, but... it's almost insulting that it's just cast aside when it's convenient and brought back into play when it's fun again.

But I guess that plays into what @silverfox said: to me, the people doing things that way aren't being respectful.

ETA: my old job being IT for a major financial firm and I having had a better grasp of Salesforce than anyone I worked with. Our boss had pretty much nil. I do feel bad for the company's Salesforce admin because she was really sweet but I'm just kind of laughing my ass off right now because the asshole who fired me is probably shitting bricks at all the fires he can't put out.
