One part of the issue I've had lately is people "want" to RP, but they don't want to be responsible for any part of the generation process.

They don't want to come up with where, what, or the set.

They'll ask me if I want to RP.
      "Okay."
"Where to?" or "What should we RP?"
...like you asked me. Why do I need to come up with it all now?

When I approach someone to RP, I generally try to have something in mind to RP. A goal in mind.

This is why most of us hate BaRP. It's meandering, pointless.

It's why I personally generally don't reply to the call for 'anyone wanna RP?' in OOC Lounges because 9 times out of 10 when I do, it's followed by them wanting me to come up with the where and what.

Like hey, if I have a where/what in mind, I'll put up a call for RP. If I'm responding, the onus should be on you to have those things in mind, damnit! Hell, if you have a where/what, I'll generally even set!

The correct response to "Anyone wanna RP?" is "What did you have in mind?" If they say, "Oh, I don't know, whatever," or something to that effect, or even worse, "I was hoping you'd have something!" then your answer should be "Then no, I don't want to RP [with you]."

      <.<

I'm sorry I don't respond to RP requests with the exact phrase you want, Coin!

(okay that's not true I still wanna use her once I find just the right character why has that been so hard MEW ilu)

      lulz.

you gotta admit, tho, that answer is pretty apropos. >.>

I was referring to the 'What did you have in mind?' part since I didn't write that into my post. I actually do say that often when I'm in the mood for RP. I'm just giving you shit.

And on Mutant Genesis, I just picked up Scarlet Witch, so once I'm done CG'ing her (anew!), I'll be looking for peeps to RP with (since the Brotherhood is being disbanded for now, I'm gonna be sending her to the Institute; should be fun times!). So Marvel peeps, if you want some Witchy RP, feel free to page me (If you don't see me on Wanda, I might be logged in to hang out on Zatanna).

Personally, I feel we could do without the Hog Pit. I engage there.

      I shouldn't.

It's not healthy. It's not good for me, it's not good for the community. It doesn't do anything positive in the end. Who am I helping? Definitely not myself. But as a moderator, I'm gonna see it and I'm a damn squirrel (ADHD, ahoy!) and I can't not. Like any red blooded American, I am drawn to drama (why you think we got all these shitty reality TV shows?). Pass me the fucking popcorn.

But what I am here on MSB for -- what I love it for -- are the community posts (RL Things I Love, MU* Things I Love, etc., silly games we play) and the Mildly Constructive forum. We've seen game ideas come out of that, we've discussed mechanics. We have some great How To threads (that I would love to see collected into a Knowledge Base on future forum software; I'm building pros and cons lists on a new platform if we migrate away from nodebb and some of them do have KB platforms built in). Those are the reasons I'm here. Not the swamps.

But there are very loud and insistent voices for the Pit and... I feel we need to be able to weigh all the voices. Not just the loudest. We have a lot more members on these boards (I watch the metrics sometimes!) than we appear to. We also have members who post less frequently and members who aren't in the Pit at all (because they didn't opt-in). Do we listen to the person who posts ten times yelling for the Pit or do we listen to the three people who post once apiece saying they don't want it?

Just because someone is louder doesn't make them more important than the rest.

@wizz I dunno, I didn't really read him as being less emotionally or intellectually capable than her. They were struggling past a language barrier and also wildly different life experiences.

      This.

I actually think he was very emotionally capable. There was fear, the ability to tell the difference between a human capable of empathy and understanding vs. humans out to use/abuse him.

NodeBB blech. There has to be something better out there somewhere. Make it happen already.

The reasoning for this is that we couldn't transfer over the archives/history.

Personally? I'd be OK with that. Take off and nuke it from orbit. Fresh slate. >.>

Doesn't look like it. Unfortunate poll plug-in is unfortunate.
I would hope it would be to a low grade (I keed. Maybe.)

The other part of me knows that it is because I predicted that Lonzo Ball would suck.

      And you were wrooong.

      The fuck you say, boy?

Ninth on the team in PPG, behind luminaries like Randle and Lopez, yet first in minutes played. FG% of .360. Donovan Mitchell had double the PPG, and triple the total points. Mitchell was picked 13th, Ball was picked 2nd.

Ball was supposed to make the Lakers a contender, yet he was out-performed by Kyle Kuzma, who was picked 27th in the same draft.

Get outta here with the rubbish that Ball wasn't anything but an utter failure in his first year.

This is not the Basketball thread. Please move this discussion to the appropriate thread. GAWD GUYS YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER.

@auspice On the plus side, from everything I hear actually working in the video game industry is absolutely horrible. It is an aspirational job, lots of people want to work for Bioware as an example. As a result? Those companies then take horrific advantage of people because they know they can get away with relatively poor wages combined with horrific working conditions and unreasonably long hours.

You can probably find a job a much better job with greater job security and conditions that uses the same skills in another industry.

My current job takes terrible advantage of me.
      With way below living wages.
      And no benefits.

      I mean,
it can't get worse than where I'm at now.

At least getting to do what I enjoy doing / have gone to school for would be nice

and I've been job hunting for the past 4 years with no luck whatsoever

which is part of why I can barely find the willpower to even try anymore

@auspice I just set up the poll plugin (helpfully named nodebb-plugin-poll2 just so we'd know it's not the same as nodebb-plugin-poll) a few minutes ago!

I can see the results before I vote! It's the link called 'Results.'

Mostly, unless you click on the 'votes' there on the right after voting.

I was toying with telling @Arkandel or giving us all a bad grade and seeing if he found me out later and it being a lesson unto him for not knowing how polls worked by now.

      Lotherio ruined it for me.

I'm not able to generate message boxes at all, which I'm guessing is part of the bug. (As in, I have my notification that I have a message, but when I click on it, nothing actually happens, no message box opens up.)

Sometimes it never opens for me, sometimes it does. Sometimes I have to go to notifications and click on it from there, sometimes I just have to go to 'See all chats' to get it working.

(the only way I can send messages is to go to 'See all chats,' pick a name, and scroll down the page. I've yet to get anything else working. I've been fiddling with a number of things. This does seem wholly to do with the update to nodebb)

Are we unable to roll back, Ark? That seems a failing of the system. 😐

@auspice Try, goddammit. You damned well better!

...sometimes, not getting Thing1 is fate's way of saying Thing2 around the corner is way better.

      This Thing2 sounds way better.

      Try.

Not only is it better, it's more you than teaching cars to drive.

      You can do this.

It's also vastly more work to do.

Part of the application process is designing an entire quest. In Twine. Which, I mean, I worked myself into exhaustion and illness in March learning how to do. So I guess I have the skillset to do and means the pool of applicants is actually probably fairly narrow (vs everyone and their brother; I have a degree, I can include my completed game + my other dialogue and game design scripts in my app, etc...).

But I'd have to design a quest set in a current Bioware property in Twine to include in my app.

Which is extra work on top of my current work and the portfolio building I'm doing for the completion of said degree.

And I can only think how it'd feel all for naught if I do it and never even hear back from them. Do I really want to work that hard?

      I'm... I'm not sure I do.

Name of the Wind was the first audio book I tried from Audible.

I had to exchange it because I just could not manage to endure it. Maybe reading it would be better. Listening to it was painful.

I got Dan Simmons' Hyperion instead which was well worth it.
