@insomniac7809 We also get a fair few mentions of the fifth amendment. As in "I plead the fifth"... that isn't a thing here. Sure, you can't be compelled to testify against yourself, but we don't call it that. Stop being American.

Whereas here in the US I hear stuff like 'I wish I lived in Australia, they only pay <#> per gallon for gas'

Okay first of all there's this thing called an exchange rate. Second of all, they go by liters...

We just need to swap all of these people, apparently.

I've actually heard this a lot from people who obviously have no idea just how difficult it is to immigrate to Australia.

      Right?
Or the "they get everything free in Australia! And everything is cheaper!" and all about how they're going to immigrate.

And then a few weeks later you stop hearing about it. I generally assume that's around when they actually read up on immigration.

@auspice Yikes, that's a lot more work than when I used to make cider with some yeast and concentrate with an airlock.

Cider is the easiest (of cider, wine, beer, mead, etc...) AFAIK. Cider is what I was going to start with on the 'homebrew' front, but I never bothered largely because getting good enough juice to start with proved to be a PITA locally for me at the time.

But yeah, cider is super easy.

      Batman™: Gotham City Chronicles

The initial box design made me hope this was by the same people who did the DC Comics Deck Building Game... That game is really well-designed. If it was, I'd be all about this.

Miniature games aren't really my thing. Mostly due to cost, but also just due to time investment simply to play. But the DC Comics Game is still some of the most fun I've had playing a deck building game (and I love me some CCG/LCG type games).

My cat sleeps on the back of the sofa behind me with one paw out and on my shoulder.

      ❤

Also: got a call from a recruiter about a job with Google (well with a company they recently-ish acquired). She kept saying how I'm p. much the perfect candidate.
We'll see how this one goes.

Aren't you tired of being in pain? Decide which wins.

It's not just pain. Anyone who has had a chronic health issue go undiagnosed knows. It's pain, it's weariness, it's time, it's money, it's the frustration of having doctors look at you like you're just trying to get pills (or outright saying as much), it's doctors saying 'it's probably all in your head,' etc.

It takes a lot of fortitude to start the cycle anew.

    • RE: NodeBB installation

Just based on the tools the two have, the admin-side structure, and how many fits nodebb has given us here... phpBB may be the better choice of the two.

Others who have used phpBB more recently may want to weigh in, but I'm just not sold on nodebb personally.

It's a breeze to install. Or was last I did it a decade ago. I bet it's even easier now. >.>

@wildbaboons said in Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff:

@auspice have you ever been looked at seriously by doctor familiar with Lyme and it's common co-infections?

I say familiar with Lyme because a lot of docs use the CDC guidelines with are plain wrong and they're just starting to work on changing them

      Funny you should say that.
I've had a friend say in the past I should be checked for late-stage (or whatever it's called) Lyme.

When I was... 8 or 9? I had a deer tick in my arm for 3+ days. Why that long you say? Because I've always been that person that just toughs it out as long as possible and it was on the back side of my upper arm (where I couldn't see). My arm ached. Whatever. And then it kept hurting. And kept hurting. And when I finally told my mom, the thing was halfway into my arm. >.>

So, it IS possible. But yeah, last round of the above 'see a bunch of specialists,' it got waved off because 'oh if that was the issue they'd have caught it all when you were a kid.'

Because they totally knew this all in the 90s y'all.

So no, I haven't, because I mean, a) is there a list of those doctors? b) I'm just sort of tired of being brushed off. 😕

      Double post, don't care.

      I hate my legs.
I hate whatever is wrong with my legs.
I hate that the last round of 'doctors and specialists and tests, oh my!' years ago came out with 'shrug? maybe it's some atypical fibro symptom.'

They hurt. Just about all the time. Most of the time it's just a deep ache, down in the bone (which is why the fibro thing is hinky; that's usually just muscular). Sometimes that pain gets so bad all I can do is lie down and focus on remembering to breathe.

Some days, I wake up and can barely walk. Today is one of those days. I get up, stand up, and... fall over. Proceed to spend the rest of the morning making sure I'm near a wall for when one (or both) my legs invariably begins to give out.

This happens. I know it happens. I'm just especially bummed out because yesterday I had a good day. I felt good. I was about as pain free as I get. If I hadn't been at work, I probably would have tried finding someone to go out to a park or something with me.

Days like this also cost me more because they mean I definitely can't walk/bus to work and taking the bus most of the way home is dicey, too. Here's hoping car situ gets worked out soon.

Something in the air (spring pollen I assume) keeps causing me to break out in hives.

      SUCH FUN.

As if I needed more of an excuse to hide indoors all the time. 😐

      Aww, what a shame.

It was a beautiful day, well, at least it was here, The sun was out for the first time in almost a week and it got up to almost 70 degrees. I spent most of the afternoon out in the gazebo with the laptop, alternating between watching reruns of Blue Planet and Dr Who on DirectTV Now and working on my game. Which reminds me, I must get a tea pot to keep outside so I don't have to keep running in and out of the house.

From what research I've done, it seems to be the mountain cedar pollen. And it seems anyone who has grown up / spent a good deal of time around the northeast US reacts even worse to it.

So I guess while I'll enjoy spring being warmer, I'm gonna be v. itchy. 'Cause it's not like I can pop a benadryl on my way out the door to work (I have a hard enough time being awake as it is!).

I cut my own hair (it was driving me up the wall and fuck knows when I'd be able to afford to go anywhere to get it done). It doesn't look bad! I just took off a couple inches so it's above my shoulders a bit, but still.

I attribute that to it being a bit curly now. That hides a lot of uneven ends, I'm sure.

@jaded You already have everything I have. Besides, I trust you.

Actually I got through 2 pages, and they shut me down for too many activations from this IP. I could jump to another but ... meh.

I will actually have unclaimed games at the end though, so yay, freebies for some one!

And for @Jaded too - I know from a friend running into this that they do limit you after a bit, yes! He did a similar thing where he went through his Humble library and had to do it in chunks because he was activating too many at once. It's a security 'feature' on Steam.

Okay. I have 20 PAGES of unclaimed keys from Humble Bundle. Is there a mod, an app, anything that will go through and add the ones i don't have to Steam for me? Even just say if I already have it on Steam? ANYTHING?

      Holy shit, y'all.

      Instant Pot Wild Rice Soup

If you have an Instant Pot, you need to try this.

      It's so good.
My bechamel (what they have you make to add at the end) came out so thick it turned mine into more of a stew than a soup BUT I DON'T CARE IT'S SO FUCKING DELICIOUS.

Next time I make this I am gonna make a loaf of nice crusty bread to eat with it and homg.
