Regular events would be things like balls, picnics, hunting, salons, etc.

And how would one work to prevent these events seeming... samey?

Good question and to be perfectly frank, one of my answers is: 'Most games don't last a year.'
The other answer is: please make suggestions.

Ball after ball does get old.
I'm hoping a bunch of different types of events and some of those events being themed might help, but it's hard to say.

One thing I've missed from Lords & Ladies games are debuts or debutante balls. And, no, Kushiel games don't count, as their debuts are quite a bit different. New adults or almost adults get presented and introduced to the rest of noble society along with other adults or almost adults.

Most of the time, L&L games just have balls and parties for random reasons, when there was a social season to things. And a debutante ball is a good way to introduce new PCs to the game. Why haven't we ever heard of your character before? Oh, it's because you just debuted or are about to debut.

      Yes!
Which is why I think opening the game with a debut would be an excellent way of things.

I think also, tbh, why not lean into peoples' desire to marry off? Oh you got engaged in a week? How fortunate that you caught someone's eye! 😄

I blame Bridgerton but also Emma.. I've been on a Regency kick lately and I think a MU could be pretty fun (and laid back since no ermgbigevilmetaplot to deal with on anyone's part).

If I did this, I would want to lean into the more comedic, satire, and modern-inspired (such as with racial casting, etc.) things like The Great, Bridgerton, Emma. and so on. I know some people know a great deal about the Regency era, but a fair number more of us don't. Plus, the more satirical spins on things are more fun IMO.

      A few thoughts so far:

      • Set in London
      • Game starts at the beginning of the social season
      • A full roster to ensure populated houses and not a dozen instances of a single individual per house (would also help people have built-in RP)
      • Regular events would be things like balls, picnics, hunting, salons, etc.

Is this something people would play?

And of those who would be interested:
Would anyone be interested in helping me draft up a grid and/or writing some of the houses and their rosters (Ares, so p basic and honestly, I'd just be asking for demographics: I can do sheets no prob)? (This may or may not extend into an invitation to Staff on the game... I am traditionally picky about who I staff with (a) and it's not a game concept that needs many to run it (b).)

This is not a set-in-stone idea. I start a new job next week and may find I am simply too overwhelmed to even think of running a game. But right now I am in the camp of 'gosh this would be fun to RP' and by the rules of 'if you want it, make it' I may do just that.

      A new crochet project.

I already stayed up 'til 6: might as well power through the night and try to fix my sleep schedule for the nth time.

Being told your poses are making someone laugh hard enough to get stared at is the highest praise.

And also fills me with warm fuzzies.

Wait, can people look someone in both eyes at once? Is that something other people can do?

that's what I assume looking someone in the eyes is?
Because it seems super weird to stare at one eye
      i don't know
this is why i hate it and it makes me anxious

      @wretched

So many of these get me.
The 'Doesn't look in the eyes' especially. I've been told straight up the reason I didn't get a job was because I couldn't look the interviewer in the eyes.

I don't know how people can. You can't look at two eyes at once. And if you focus on their nose that's not their eyes. So which eye do you look at? Why is focusing on them, in general, not enough?!

Mythical Kitchen pleases me in so many ways

It's upbeat, it's silly, it's weird... but the reason it's here is that it's basically 'this is what cooking with ADHD is' (and ABCs of ADHD have also pointed this out specifically of Mythical Kitchen).

So yeah, I recommend it. For fun and for pointing neurotypicals at to go 'this is what my brain do' because it is a very visual example of ADHD in action.

Honestly? I had a second during the Aldecaldo questline where I had to take myself aside and be like, "ok chill out dude, this is a fictional character, your love is not real" 😭

I will never be able to date again because no one can compare to Panem.

@derp Let me know what you think of it. I've only done it once, before I got diagnosed as pre-diabetic and decided I had to cut the noodles from my diet.

I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic in the last year and I still can't do it. I've tried cutting back on sugars/carbs in other ways.

      I love pasta too much ;.;

I am in a terrible spending spiral, and ordering out way too much. Like how lazy am I, when I can't fucking be arsed to boil pasta?

      Babish - Aglio e Olio

This is simple to make. Like, dead simple. The hardest part is slicing and peeling the garlic, but it's so worth it. And it's dirt cheap.

I have made this stuff so much during COVID. It just doesn't get old. I seriously recommend that you give it a shot. You might end up eating out less just because this stuff isn't on the menu.

In the same vein, Pasta al Limone is super easy and super delicious. I keep the ingredients on hand for it.

Years ago I stumbled across some snuff films.

      The real stuff.

I watched in that train wreck 'can't look away' mixed with 'I want to understand what would drive someone to do this' kind of way.

I can tell you (and I've talked to someone else who has experienced similar) that the one in CP2077 is not remotely the same. Oh, sure, it's intense, but it's not close. And there's been similar in so many other games.

It's like comparing TV 'gore' (or lack thereof since people often die on TV without any blood) to movie 'gore' (where it's often in comical amounts) to RL 'gore'. As someone who experienced this (losing massive amounts of blood) first-hand, I can point to some media depictions that are close to the real thing, but most are.... wildly off-base and purposefully so.

      The BD? Same thing.
It didn't phase me. Not because I'm some evil terrible horrible soul who wants to enable the murder of people for fun and profit, but because I've seen (not because I sought it out, but because an internet rabbit hole caused me to stumble across it years ago) the real thing and the one in CP2077 was the Lite version.

    • RE: Interest Check: Ares Facilitated Short Term Spy MU*?

      I'd be down for this.

Could it be a period piece type thing? Like, set during the Cold War or somesuch perhaps?

(I am so all about lady spies like Atomic Blonde and Eva and....)

      Name ideas:
The Happening (and it'd be way better than that terrible movie so hey)
Storybook (cause, y'know, a single story at a time)
Or heck, call it Twilight Zone and each season is like looking into a 'what if' and you can use TZ-inspired imagery for the website.
