I've heard back on one of the (many many) jobs I've applied for in Austin. My current job pays well enough, but I'm burned out, have no benefits (except for health insurance), and no chance of upward movement.

They want to do a phone interview this week. Benefits look good. It'd be a call center gig, so meh, but I've heard good things (as in, person who recommended the company said their friend is happy there). Hopefully the pay is good?

If you 'core' an onion before chopping it, there are fewer tears to be had! The core is where most of the tear-inducing oils live.

Freezing the onion also helps. Additionally, you can buy bags of pre-chopped onions in the frozen food aisle if you are really adamantly against chopping onions.

You know the little cap over the deodorant? The plastic thingy? It took me years before I realized I could just twist the product up to make that thing easier to remove rather than fussing at getting a grip on it.

So, update for you fine-ass folks:

• Truck will be about $1500
• I've paid all but about $450 of the initial move-in costs (deposits, the first pro-rated month, etc). That last $450 has to be paid the day I move in.
• Electricity will have about a $200 deposit on the first bill. If my current water company will do a 'letter of recommendation' they may waive it, but as I need 12 months of 'on time' payments on record, I gotta wait until I pay August's bill, so I have a calendar reminder set to ask them as soon as I pay it in a few weeks.

The GFM is at $1040 right now. I don't know yet how much my final month's rent (it'll be pro-rated some) here will be, so I'm not counting any extra funds (it usually takes an entire paycheck) there. Whch means one more paycheck towards the move. Minus bills (final utilities, etc.), general needs (food, etc.)... I'll have about $500 more towards the move.

That's just enough to cover the truck. So I still need at least $450 for the rest of the rent, plus enough for the travel costs themselves (gas, food, and one night in a motel since @Meg has wonderfully offered to put me up <3).

I am still prodding at other options, obvs. Just letting folks know where things stand. (And this isn't factoring any deposit Charter would want; I can hotspot my phone for a few weeks for work/school. I have a plate and bowl for food and plastic utensils only cost a few bucks. I never mind eating plain ramen to ensure my cat has the food she needs, etc. Stuff like that is just water under the bridge in comparison to the big items. Water service is handled by the complex; they bill you separately.)

There is also the possibility of security deposit from here, but a) gotta split that with current roommate, b) while the place is gonna be clean, the microwave door handle did crack because cheap-ass plastic and there's never any telling how much a place is gonna keep, y'know?, c) who knows how long they'll take to get it to me (they plan to mail it).

The only MMO I 'play' (and by that I mean about one to two times a year I get the itch and play for about a week) is SWtOR.

The other day someone asked me how the PVP is in it and I don't even know. I barely play with other people at all. I just like Old Republic era Star Wars and SWtOR makes playing solo so seamless that I don't have to ever interact with other people if I don't want to.

I am the most misanthropic MMO player ever. And I don't care.

Elite Dangerous is probably the most social I've ever been (outside of MU*s) in gaming. But EIC is people my age. I don't get involved in the PVP stuff (there's no push to do so, either; they need people in every 'area' anyway).

I just have no need of someone pitching a tantrum at me because they perceived I screwed up in some way (even though generally it was their fuck up they're foisting off on me).

Oh, wait, I do socialize- I have three buddies I game with on Saturday nights. We play shit like Rocket League and Golf With Your Friends and get drunk (well 2-3 of us do) and a couple of them stream it on Twitch. I can drop the link next time. >.>

I have been told (@Monogram comes to mind) that I don't really laugh much, but I'll sometimes just sort of chuckle at things. Whereas I do think I laugh a lot.

So some of it is personal perception!

Also that Archer + Kingsman thing is gold. I am excited for the new movie, but I Bridges.

After my divorce, I very, very nearly began applying to jobs to teach english overseas. As in I had a few applications up.

I also happen to have a coworker in Amsterdam who has been trying, for about a year, to get me to be her roommate.

I'm just not quite ready for the international leap.

Thank you. And yeah, Seattle is gorgeous. If I made like, 3 times as much as I do, I'd stay put. But I'm barely making it by and with how much my rent would be increasing... even if I found a new roommate, I couldn't make it. And I was already in one of the cheaper spots. It's just not viable wth how the rent increases every year and I'm in a job that doesn't do 'raises.'

Also, if you haven't already rented a moving truck, and you have a vehicle of your own, the "pod" delivery/moving companies are a pretty great deal, and pretty easy. Not Pods itself (the company), but other companies offer it. Was way, way cheaper when I moved cross country. Easier, too, not having to drive the truck yourself.

I have no car, so a truck is the best option for me.

And Austin is good because it's a tech center without the insane bloat that Seattle, San Fran, etc. has. Cost of living is still low while the jobs are steadily building up. It's also a good place for artistic types (finishing up my writing degree with a growing portfolio and all). At this stage, it seems the best place for me to hit up since Seattle has been strike out after strike out for the past two years re: jobs. I've had one single good job lead and that's with constant effort.
