Agreed, on both counts. I do often end up with a 2nd character on games, but it's because I either want to try out an idea (I plan to eventually have a werewolf on Reno, for example) or to prevent burnout on my main character. I don't think it'd have hurt the game at all to wait longer to open up alts; esp. with that initial flood. But, I also know that there'd be just as many people complaining about the wait.

It's the eternal rule of life: it's impossible to make everyone happy.

And yes, Wendigo has been very up front about what's going on. I've seen posts regarding what's up IRL as well as posts about what hours/days she's best available for the game. That is more than a lot of Staffers do these days.

      @Auspice That was beautiful. 🙂

The friend who showed it to me said he doesn't even like dogs, but it made him tear up.

I totally want to see a book written like this, now. 😄

I had the same thought. And then I remembered I work full-time, am in school full-time, and have been traveling lately. Staffing is not in the cards for me.

But it additionally vexes me. That people are complaining about the slow turnaround on a game that is seeing it's initial flood, like @surreality says. Fallcoast went rapidly down the shitter as if it were thrilled to see the sewers. Other places floundered in their own ways. People want a place to play nWoD and I get that; I was one of the very first apps submitted when they first opened.

The only mistake I really think has been made? They should have waited longer to allow alt applications. I think a week was too short a window: it should've been more like a month, what with the RL issues.

But I will definitely call out people bitching about slow turnaround when the HeadWiz has had to go through two deaths in the family during the holidays.

      People are assholes

There was, in a neighborhood I used to live in, this wonderfully sweet pitbull puppy whose family moved and abandoned him. He showed up at my house / in my yard because my dog was super friendly and he just wanted to play with her. I spent the day walking him around the neighborhood until someone let me know that, yeah, he was with the family in that house over there. But they moved. And left him.

Fortunately another neighbor was willing to adopt him, because the no-kill shelter was full and the county one would have put him down (pitbull 😕 ). I had, at the time, already adopted another pit for similar reasons and couldn't handle a third dog.

It happens so often. To dogs and cats. Abandoned because they're too much effort, because their owner had to move to a place they couldn't have pets and rather than find a new home (or temporary situation, as I did)... they abandon them. It breaks my heart.

I'd like to remind people that Wendigo has had two deaths in the family over the past month.

I understand that other Staff could pick up that slack, but it's not a perfect world. Let Wendigo recover and get everything back in order with RL. Let her find people to fill empty Staff slots (there's been at least one bbpost regarding that).

Thanks, guys. 🙂 I was a bit worried about the day when we sat on the tarmac for an hour... But all told, everything went much more smoothly than I expected.

Does it count as a double-pose when it's 5 days later?

Today was a long day. Super long. But flying cross-country will do that.

The cat handled it well. There were times she'd cry a bit, but it was quiet and never for long. On the plane, I could barely hear it over the ambient noise.

We've been home barely an hour and she is already marking everything with her scent (cheek rubs!) and is legit happy-purring. We're talking kneading motions and cuddling on me. I think she needed me as bad as I needed her.

Thank you so much to the folks here who contributed to the costs of getting her to me and for sharing it. ❤ All told, donations covered about 50% of it and it really, really helped.

Vertical video aside, this is some of the best 'street music' I've heard in some time.
Apparently they're 'Too Many Zooz' (per the description) and I found them on Spotify.

(Plus, the one guy's dancing as he plays is amazing XD)

I've done the emulator thing on my computer.

      I hate it.

I hate the keyboard interface and unless I go out and buy a controller just for it (http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/1b4c/?srp=1 - $15-20 apiece), the modern controllers are hinky to map/use.

And then you have to hope the game was actually ported correctly.

So sue me if I want this nifty machine I just plug into my TV and get to play without headaches.

Probably will not be until springtime before the bottom drops out on these crazy prices.

I hope more will be out come Spring. Someone told me they saw something (I cannot find it out) that it was just a limited release. 😕

Nintendo NES Classic Edition, a MSRP for $60.00 and fucking re-sellers have blown the market so out of proportion on this thing now you can't find it for less than $300.00 and the places that would sell it for $60.00 are continually sold out. Sonovabitch.

Last week I saw people listing them on eBay for $10 grand.

I'm sure the lawyer-types floating about could explain it better than I... But freedom of speech in the US basically means you're free to express yourself without government censorship/involvement. Where in some cultures there have been times (and still are in places) where, say, speaking out against your country's leader can get you imprisoned (or worse). Freedom of speech says 'You have a right to your own thoughts, opinions, and counsel, without the government's influence.'

A lot of people -- especially kids whose schools haven't taught it properly -- think freedom of speech means 'I can say whatever I want whenever I want and no one can stop me.'

For the kids, on the forums I worked on, I'd often explain it as:
'If someone came into your home and began insulting you, you'd ask them to stop or leave. You wouldn't just stand there and allow it to happen. This site is privately owned and run. We want it to be a safe environment for everyone, so sometimes we have to ask you to keep those thoughts to yourself... or to leave.'

It dumbs the concept down a lot, yes, but... they were kids.

I used to (for work) moderate a forum populated mostly by (and geared towards) kids in the 9-15 range. This meant certain things were off-limits, per the lawyers. Understandably so. We didn't need the lawsuit from 14-year-old Suzie roleplaying (roleplay was a big deal on these boards) sexual things with Billy who turns out to be a 35-year-old man (never mind personal morals I have there).

I did moderation and handled a lot of the emails to the moderators. The amount of times I had to explain that 'freedom of speech' doesn't apply to a privately owned site with a very specific ToS... I had a macro for it by the end.

(Yes, I am being utterly facetious here. :P)

Aw, shit man! I SAID I was sorry dozens of times since. Now you have to make it public!?
