If they're so evil, why are they addressing the issues with the security problems and are working with Google to fix them when they could perhaps exploit it?
The funny thing is, people are still posting about how they 'have access to your entire Google account!' except they released an update on Wednesday that fixed all of that. And have made statements.
But naw, let's just do the usual social media herd mentality and focus on the bad issue that's already resolved.

RE: Pokemon Go
I had someone trying to tell me that Niantic is super evil. So evil that Google had to cut all ties with them.
Not that, y'know, Niantic was one of a number of companies let go when Alphabet restructured.

SIMPLEMU! I'm one of the remaining holdouts that patently refuses to make the jump. >.> I love my SimpleMU and have no desire to learn a whole new client.
I felt the same. Mostly due to getting ragingly mad the two times I tried to switch to MUSHclient.
But Potato... was easy to switch to, in the end. It was similar enough to Simple and oh man that dual input. Mmmmmm.

RE: Pokemon Go
Yesterday evening's update has really stabilized it for me.
The only issue I'm having at the moment is sometimes when I go back into the app (left it running in the background to check something else), it's decided to stop accepting input. But I haven't had any more of the crashes/freezes upon catching a Pokemon.

RE: There's Nothing to Do Here
@Vorpal said in There's Nothing to Do Here:
Players do need to take the initiative and be willing to create their own content- but what most players get to do is micro-plot. Plot staff often tends to pick up the other end of the deal by working on the macro-plot, the over-arching threads that can make really cool stuff happen by incorporating some of the things going on into a Big Thing.
When plot staff stop being active, things tend to stagnate pretty quickly. Speaking as someone who is playing less and less on his once-favorite MU*, the lack of a good plot staffers can make a place feel more and more like splashing around with your bath-tub toys. You make a splash and then it stops, and that's where it ends.
Which is true. If Staff has dropped off running anything, then that IS a Staff issue.
But in the cases I've seen where Staff is running 1-2 +events every week... and people still complain there's 'nothing to do'? That is entirely and completely on those players.

RE: There's Nothing to Do Here
There has definitely been an increase over the last few years, in my experience, of people expecting Staff to entertain them constantly.
I've seen people leave games, citing that there's 'nothing to do,' when there's 1-2 Staff-run scenes a week and a few player-run +events beyond that.
And a lot of these people just flat out will not attend player-run +events.
It just reminds me of the brief time period in which I tried to LARP and 90% of the other players just pressed in around the STs and ignored absolutely everyone else, in the sheer hope that they would get their precious seconds of attention.

RE: Pokemon Go
Some people just really, really hate fun.
Or really, really love a reason to pretend they're more special / better than everyone else.I'm just glad to see something other than politics all over social media.

RE: Pokemon Go
Also, kids can still totally hunt Pokemon at school. They're just not likely to have a Pokestop or a Gym.

RE: Pokemon Go
I mean, yes/no. Pokemon are generated based on the same algorithms used for XM in Ingress. It's not based on gyms/Pokestops at all. So you're basically saying 'They need to be aware of every potential faux pas that could happen with a Pokemon spawning, anywhere in the world.'
I am not going to hold any game to that. I mean, they can go in now and likely eliminate Koffing from ever spawning in that general region, but to prevent it ahead of time? If spawning was dependent on gym/Pokestop locations, sure, they might be able to task some poor employees to check every single one and check local customs/possible upsetting things/insults/whathaveyou... but then we'd be looking at a release date probably 3-5 years from now rather than this month.

RE: Pokemon Go
I'm 100% with you. I mean, the most upsetting thing about that Koffing at the Holocaust museum wasn't that it was there... It's that enough people were in that place, playing the game, that random chance let it happen.
Also, schools aren't generally going to have Pokestops/gyms. Some might. But Niantic has generally avoided schools (esp. elementary & middle) having them (so, y'know, there's no issues with adults lingering about). Since polling places are often schools...
But seriously. The excuses people already give to not vote? ('I don't feel like getting up early.' 'I forgot to ask for the day off.') Pokemon wouldn't magically make non-voters suddenly vote.

@Auspice But no inline spell-checker. What a tragedy.
Eh, I've never used a spellchecker. So it's never been an issue for me or something I, honestly, even remember to consider (I should check my spelling privilege).
There is (I think on these boards even) a walkthrough for how to add a spellchecker.

RE: Pokemon Go
I did just get a Psyduck at the grocery store. But yeah, I have to range close to a mile away from my house to catch anything. And me with hip problems and fibro, that's not gonna happen too often.

RE: Pokemon Go
I hate everyone who gets spawns at home. Or even on their block.
I've got 3 gyms and a number of Pokestops within a few blocks. But do any Pokemon ever spawn? Nooooooo. I have to go 3/4ths of a mile up to the mall to get any. Sometimes I just wanna walk around the block on my lunch break!

Right now I'm just waiting for football season to start.
Some of my most vocal FB friends about 'omg stop whining about Pokemon and just let people enjoy themselves' are the biggest whiners during football season about how much they hate it. >.>
What I dig is that a lot of game, comic, etc. stores have realized that for a relatively cheap amount of money (compared to say, advertising costs), they can bring people in just by keeping the Pokestops at the store (if they have one) loaded with lures.

They come to you. Just sit on your butt and let the vibrations roll in.

Potato.
I was a stubborn SimpleMU user until I finally forced myself to switch. It's a similar enough interface to Simple (IMO). The dual-input windows are a dream (don't lose your pose if you have to check a news file or respond to a page!). I like how it handles spawns far, far better than Simple (I hated how Simple did it so much I just never used them). And being able to run multiple logs at once is nice (I have mine set to start a log as soon as I connect to a world, but then I'll start up another to capture a specific scene if I know I need to log it).

I hate apartment hunting.
So much.
Two days in and I already have panic attacks going. -
RE: RL Anger
Water aerobics are what my doctors tend to most highly recommend for me. And when I've had YMCA memberships, that means classes with the little old ladies. I think they're awesome to work out with. Lots of joking and no one gives a damn if your hair is a hot mess because you were running late and pretty much just rolled out of bed.
