Just because other people have it worse doesn't mean it sucks any less for you in the moment.

One of my closest friends ignored pain in his leg because he'd tell himself 'Well, she's been living with pain and weakness in both her legs for years. I can push through this.'

When he finally got it checked out, he had hairline fractures from hip to ankle. Don't do this. Don't push yourself or talk yourself down or ignore the pain because 'Well, it could be worse.' Listen to your body. And know that it is totally OK to feel the things you feel in those cases.

I am really sick of the Very Loud Complaints of people who aren't playing. There's a couple of people I know on Facebook that any time anybody posts anything at all they have to get all up in it about how awful/whatever the people are who are playing. I swear to god it's like people seriously hate fun.

I get it. You don't like it. That doesn't give you any call to piss all over my fun, particularly since it's not like I'm spamming or anything.

I'm not at all surprised by the people I've seen doing this. By and large they've (the ones I've personally seen) been the same people who will post 30 Dr Who (or GoT or Walking Dead or whatever their personal obsession is) related things in one day, but then throw a huge temper tantrum about 'all the stupid football posts' during the entirety of the NFL season.

My physical therapist used to say "you can pick a fight with your body, but your body is going to win".

I picked a fight with my body. I lost.

      Verified!

I have fibromyalgia and I spent so long treating my bad days like one might a 'hump' in an exercise routine. I'd just grit my teeth and force my way through it. I kept telling myself 'I'll get stronger this way.'

Yeahno.. Once I started listening to my body during a flare, I stopped turning 'flare day' into 'flare days' or even 'flare weeks.'

The body can be a stubborn SOB.

      Rest up! Feel better!

So, my twelve year old son is playing this and I decided to play too. So yesterday, I get a knock on my door and open it. A seven year old little boy and girl are standing there holding a cell phone. "Um, excuse me Miss? Can we go in your back yard, there's a pikachu we want to catch."

I smile sweetly and say, "I'm sorry, there's a dog back there." and close the door. Guess who's got a fucking pikachu?! This girl!

First saw the joke with a Rhydon.
Then I saw it with a Pikachu and the punch line being 'Team Rocket, blasting off!'

C'mon. Give us some new jokes!

As a straight guy, I can honestly inform you that gender preference is hardly the biggest hurdle.

Shhh. Let me have my fantasies that if only I weren't so shy and they weren't so straight I could woo them away into the sunset. 😉

@Auspice You're so right about the 'bi' thing. Some of the reactions that I've gotten from people after telling them I was bi were so disappointing that I now just tell people that I am gay (even though it isn't strictly true).

Since the girls I end up attracted to are almost always straight (sigh), I usually end up with guys, so I've generally just defaulted to 'sure, I'm straight.'

I can't speak as to the 'versatile' part of the statement. Just that bi women are often seen as unicorns because of some of the negative perceptions around being bi in general.

If you're bi... 'you can't make up your mind'
If you're bi... 'you're just selfish'
If you're bi... 'you want to be in threesomes'
If you're bi & male... 'you're just too scared to admit you're gay'
If you're bi & female... 'you're just a straight girl who wants attention'

There's been studies done. Bisexuals, even in the current enviro, are less likely to come out of the closet than those who are gay and lesbian. They also have a higher suicide rate. The LGBT community itself hasn't had the best track record about bisexuals (now, please don't think I'm saying it doesn't 'as a whole,' just that it has a bad track record; I've found groups that are awesome and groups that outright suck).

there's a reason why versatile bisexual women are often called "unicorns"

      I'll bite.

      Why?

Because we (hi, bi lady here) are considered by an uncomfortably large percentage of the straight male population, to be TOTALLY into threesomes.

A lot of bi ladies (I've done it) actually mark themselves on dating sites as lesbian because otherwise, it seems like all you get are couples messaging you to be their third. 😐

Idiots on Facebook are idiots. I will be making like Elsa eventually, but man, people's inability to have civil debates really fucking galls me at times. Especially charming when their PARENTS chime in all "well done, son!" when they've done little more than act like a particularly surly teenager.

Yes, yes, I know I should not be surprised. And that it's probably my fault for engaging the schmuck in the first place.
      </rant>

The first person I ever blocked on Facebook was someone's mother for exactly that kind of behavior. That woman was just vile.

      On my 'RL Anger' front:
Really, really needing a 'me time' sort of day. Y'know, nice meal out. Possibly a fattening dessert. Getting muh hairs did.

...but being in desperate 'save money' mode and struggling to justify even buying a pack of cookies.

My personal issue was the fact that the game felt, from the initial post, as if it was being put out there as 'a haven for the LGBT community.' Based on wording, that was the message that got across.

And it's not. It's a haven for a particular portion of the LGBT community, but it's not a haven for the community. And I think that's where a lot of us felt slighted.

Especially when people go on to say 'Well, games used to not treat you well if you played a normally-straight character as bi or gay, so this place got made!' No, it got made for that particular portion of the LGBT community, not those who felt ostracized or out of place on the whole. It's basically a safe room where the advertisements go 'We know you all feel out of place! We know you want somewhere safe to go!' and then you get to the door and it's a checklist and 'Oh, oops, you don't meet the requirements for our safe room.'

I get what the aim of the game is. I'm fine with it. I'm not fine with people claiming it as an LGBT haven or as an 'answer' to feeling uncomfortable playing gay/bi characters on other superhero games since it cuts out half of those characters.

The water tower near me had a blue square that turned purple as I got close and gave me three pokeballs. That's a pokestop?

And I think I found a pokemon I can catch. It was a tower looking icon with what I believe is a dragonair in the middle.... man, wish I walked the extra bit to see what it was!

Yes! That was a Pokestop. The square turns to a circle and then you can tap and spin it. There's a wait between 'spins,' too.

The other thing you saw was a gym. You can tap on them in the distance to see info, but you can't until you're level 5. You do have to be right there to battle or train at it, though.

Wild Pokemon will just appear on the map.

As a note: you do not need to be 'on top of' or have the wild Pokemon inside the ring to catch it. If it's on your screen, it's in range. Just tap on it.

Bolded because this is the cause of people trespassing, crowding businesses, etc. They think they need to be 'on top of' the wild pokemon like they do for Pokestops and Gyms. You don't. If you see it, tap it, and you can try to catch it.

ETA: If you can't, it's probably a server issue. But the intent (and in practice, during beta) is that if you can see it and aren't moving too fast (in a car, because it speedlocks), you can catch it.

      Found this. Very helpful.

Geez, where is this person? There's a poke stop everywhere! I have like 3 within a mile radius, and I'm considering that lucky.

They may live in a more rural area. Where I lived prior to my move to Seattle, there was pretty much absolutely nothing on Ingress without driving a short ways. The more populated and tech-prone areas are going to have more Pokestops because they have more Ingress portals.

Here in Seattle region, there are bus stops that are portals. Trail markers. Heck I own a portal that is 'ornate sewer cover.' Bet that's a pokestop, actually. I'll find out the next time I go see my therapist.

Impatiently waiting the Canadian release. Anyone know when that's going to be?

It's being rolled out over time. Australia got it first, then the US... With the server issues, they probably had to delay other countries.

However, you can do what a lot of people did when it hit Australia; download it separately. It SHOULD still work, largely, if you do, but there might be some fiddly bits sometimes.

http://www.mtlblog.com/2016/07/pokemon-go-is-live-in-canada/# has links for how to do it on Android or iOS. Personally, I don't generally recommend it, BUT, I know people who haven't had issues.

Court's no fun, but it happens to the best of us. It doesn't make you any less of a responsible adult or a bad person. It's just one of those things a person has to go through at some stage in their life.

I'd say don't sweat it, but I know it's a stressful thing. Just know that, seriously, it really truly doesn't make you any less responsible / adult. 🙂

I switched to iPhone last year because of work. Used to be very hardcore Android... But honestly? I've been pleasantly surprised.

I'm too busy these days to give a damn about things like rooting my phone or similar. Apple's TestFlight system for testing builds is far superior to Google's current method of 'Join this G+ Community and then hope this link works' (9 times out of 10, it doesn't).

Also? I've had my 6 for a year and a half now and it still runs great. My experience with Android is that about a year in, the manufacturer stops releasing updates and developers are already on to the next device, so you're stuck with an outdated device that runs like molasses.

I don't think iPhones are perfect. I still find Apple annoying for a lot of other reasons. But right now, I think they're winning the smartphone game.

I wish they'd given me something for the pain. There was supposedly anesthetic mixed in with the hydrocortisone, but my luck it was lidocaine (which I'm immune to).

I've had issues with hip pain for 5, 6 years now. Used to be I'd spend 3-4 days every few months with severe pain in my right hip. Then it was about every month. On and on until the past six months where it's been 5-6 days a week.

Finally brought it up to my doctor yesterday (the last time I tried talking to a doctor about it, I got the 'oh you're just overweight if you exercise it'll clear up' spiel). She actually did an examination. Due to the location/points of pain, she thinks it's bursitis. So I got a lovely hydrocortisone shot in my hip.

And those, if you've never had one, hurt like a bitch to get (as she described it: they insert the needle until they hit the bone, then back off a bit... which is all kinds of joy) and can hurt for up to 4 days after. I've had one once before, for a badly pulled tendon in my foot, and it didn't hurt much beyond the first night. My hip tho? Goddamn I hurt today. And I'm moving like a snail because of it.
