I keep hyper focusing this week. On stupid shit.

Up until 1 am getting a desc just right?
      Sure!

Late to work because I have to have exactly the right jacket and I dunno where it is?
      Yup!

Caught up in the phrasing of a single sentence in the documentation and refuse to move onto something else? You bet.

Unfortunately it's led to insomnia and I'm on day 3 of only 3 hours of sleep a night.

A lot of this is why @Paradox and I review every app. I know it can add a day or two (depending on how busy we are) of wait time, but it means he and I are on the same page every time.

9 times out of 10, we already are. And we only both review on the first pass so we can align on expectations. Once we've given initial feedback, we trust the other to follow through on it.

But I know I can be a bit too nitpicky and he knows he can be a bit too laid back (but then, we're the reverse on certain things). So doing it this way means we balance each other out.

I thought punishments in CG were those systems where you can die in CG from a bad roll.

(Aside: I really like how many games let me bullet-point my BG nowadays. This is pro. Keep doing this game runners. I can absolutely give you the sketched-out details. Grew up here. Parents were X and Y. Had # siblings. Did/did not go to college. ....)

self-gripe: I have a multi-pen, two of the pens (cartridges? whatevers) in it have been out of ink for weeks. I keep remembering to replace them at the most inopportune times.

      In the shower!
      Falling asleep!
Arms in the sink covered in water and dish soap!

C'mon brain, work with me here. How can I take appropriately color-coordinated notes at work without my pen at full operational capacity?!

I am genuinely not clear where you're going with this.

      Okay.

(For the audience: Faraday and I don't get each other about 95% of the time.)

Looking at what you and @faraday have said and in the context of MUing, I think it's like this:

      • If there is a private MU out there and it requires invites to join, that is earning. Even if I hear about it (in the 'neenerneener I'm here and you aren't' sense), I still don't know what I'm missing out on other than hearsay. I have to 'earn' my spot, but for the most part I can shrug and go on my way.
      • Someone already in that community does something and gets banned, losing. They were on the inside. They knew everything happening. They were a part of the community. It got taken away from them. This has a much bigger impact, presumably, on them.

Now, some people can get banned, shrug, and move on. To them, that earn/lose probably is about even.
Some can't (loss of community, of story, etc. can be hard). Some really can't (as evidenced by some of the thinly-veiled 'review' posts we've seen here before that crop up immediately after someone is banned). To them, that earn/lose has a much bigger gap.

One Hour One Life is on sale on Steam for $13.99 ($6 off) until 10AM PST on the 21st.

I've been v curious to try this game, so I may pick it up to try it out.

Shadowrun: Honk Kong (extended) is just $5 until the 22nd at 10AM PST. That's 75% off! I am absolutely 100% picking this up since I keep forgetting in other sales.

I mean, my version of Magma on ESH was a hard deviation

To be fair, also: Marvel characters outside the big core 'X-Men' group are easier to 'Year Zero' and just make up your own shit altogether.

In the X-Men: Evolution cartoon, they gender-bent Magma by making her Lance and plunking her in the Brotherhood. Similar character, slightly different powerset, but arguably (IMO I guess) that's exactly where he came from. The 'We need a buddy comedy situ for Pyro....... earth powers would work.... heeeeeeeeeeeey'

Avalanche (and his companionship with Blob and Pyro) is an actual character from the comics, not some replacement for Magma. In fact, in the comics, Pyro and Avalanche are a trio with the Blob, they were in Freedom Force together.

Like, sorry to get all comic book fact-nerdy on you, but uh.

      Well, then!
Usually I have these facts together!

I can't remember all the Marvel chars. There's vastly too many. 😉

I agree but also because bi-erasure sucks so it was like woo! bi chara- oh nm it was just a way to transition him into being gay 😕 like yes it CAN be that for some people but it WOULD HAVE BEEN COOL to have another bi char in comics.

    • RE: The ethics of IC romance, TS, etc

The only time I played on an HP game with canonical characters, the person running it was sort of... draconian in expecting characters to be played exactly to her vision of how they should be.

...the book series wasn't even finished yet. Order of the Phoenix was still new.

I did not play an FC. Draco pulled my character into things and catching Draco involved in the dark arts. Which led to a lot of scenes of him equal parts threatening / trying to sway her to evil. It was good RP. But I remember one day he put a bbpost up that was all 'Oooooo, I saw Draco Malfoy sneak off with......' because he thought it'd be funny.

this Staffer got PISSED, assuming our PCs were actually getting into a relationship (they weren't), and pulled us aside to lecture at length about how it wasn't proper and it wasn't an approved relationship for the FC and....

      NOW.
      NOW.
      THAT SAID.

That game is why I don't like FCs except comic characters being played. At all. It made me realize that because of their flexibility (so many reboots, retellings, writers, etc etc), I'm more comfortable playing and playing with comic characters. Any others? nope.

And that's how I think people should approach it. Don't just genderbend the FC keeping only the codename (Lance's codename was Avalance). Make your own using the FC as inspiration. Because someone might come along and it'd be like 'But I was- oh well.....'

No one should ever be like 'omg how dare this person have a similar power set to me!' don't have the exact same one - put your own spin on it, but I mean. There's tons of telepaths out there but if Jean Grey player goes to staff and points at the telepath/telekinetic OC and goes OMG THEY'RE COPYING ME, staff is gonna roll their eyes and go 'deal with it, Red.'

this is why I SORT OF think people, deep down, want an OC but also want the 'popularity' that comes with the big name.
