While I have too many projects to really take this on, my primary warning about Wikidot is to be careful with how much content you add at once to a new wiki. I've had my entire wiki get removed wholesale (which also fucked my karma), because they marked me for spam even though it wasn't. That's why I don't use Wikidot anymore, otherwise I love Wikidot.

A friend of mine had the exact same thing happen a few years back. They yanked the wiki for an unfinished project without warning.

I also do think there could be an argument made for functional expansion; if I had the origin command in a register, I could do interesting conditional things like add out-of-band data for the client to process. Like adding a conveniently, consistently parseable string saying 'this is a page from <X>' with a begin/end tag, so that even multi-line pages could be pulled into a specific spawn.

Of course, at that point, you're making this wildly more complicated, but it's still a personal pipe dream... to have a way to snag multi-line outputs for client-side processing. And if we're discussing adding user-specific formatting hooks that have a chance to alter output, making them conditional based on the origin command and enactor makes me happy.

      And..... done.

This is optionally available in the latest RhostMUSH 4.0 engine with the @admin (config) parameter posesay_funct enabled (default disabled).

The SPEECH_PREFIX and SPEECH_SUFFIX attributes only work for connected player types, and will not work if the attribute is set NO_COMMAND.

If you trigger the cpu alert (by blowing away the cpu alert) it naturally logs the attempt then sets the attribute NO_COMMAND for safty sake.

So, you got your pipe-dream. Enjoy 🙂

I tend to agree that since Grossman himself doesn't provide a map of the layout of the school, there's no canonical way in which it is actually laid out. Especially since there's also Brakebills South to consider. And if people bitch at you, 'fuck you, it's a goddamn College of Magical Pegagogy' should suffice for explanation. Not to mention that it doesn't actually appear on any map anywhere.

And, hey, at least there's a map of Fillory.

      @Arkandel
That's what I always liked about the Deryni books. They were the first books that I read where magic cost.
Magic drained the user and could leave them incapacitated both mentally and physically.
Use too much, and the practitioner could die
Extensive use of rituals (based on Catholic practices) to focus abilities.
Oh, and everyone hated you, so if it was ever discovered that you could do this, they'd probably burn you at the stake.

I know now that other books (like Wheel of Time) incorporated similar themes, but to my little high school brain it was game changing, and I'll always love the series for that.

Yeah, I've always thought of it as the 'fluff' stat. The one you have that never gets used. Politics, Socialize, Science, even Animal Ken... to a lesser extent, most of the Social skills outside of Empathy/Intimidation/Persuasion/Streetwise/Subterfuge tend to be thought of as 'dump' stats.

(if ever this gif was relevant...)

Threads died off for a good while because of Staff business and a lot of players (myself included) being RL-occupied. HOWEVER, the Staff has returned and decided they want to get things up and going again.

There will be a Search cycle soon to help kick off this new activity, so it’s a good time to get in and get acclimated. I will warn that these crazy folks have asked me to step up as Senior (mostly because I’m the only gold rider still around- bonus! means there will prob be a gold egg!). I have a lot of experience as SCo (I love writing dragons, y’all), but not so much in running things and I will likely try to find a WL who can handle most of the OOC leadership (tbh I kind of dislike how Pern games traditionally make the IC leadership also the OOC).

But if that doesn’t scare you away, please check it out: http://threadsofpern.wikidot.com/

(For those potentially curious: http://threadsofpern.wikidot.com/news-gender - women are fully equal to men on ToP and while women impress gold and men impress bronze as normal, there’s no sexuality restrictions and trans* are welcome. The only caveat is that while it’s been decided that there are herbs available for hormone treatment type things, the level of medicine does not allow for surgery. So be a gay bronzerider, a bi gold rider (my char is!), or feel more than welcome to play a trans char.)

@Kestrel said in Tips on Güd TS:

I find it much, much worse if someone is trying to OOCly coerce a relationship or sex without roleplaying the approach IC first and do not deem the reverse coercion at all.

I think there's a line here -- and in one respect I think everyone is on the same page, and on the other, everyone's scattered all over the map.

Mainly, I think most folk are relatively chill about respectful, neutral inquiry, without the heavy breather factor attached (politely asking without awwwyiss bebe yur hawt overtones), but that's still going to vary widely.

I think we're universally all on the same page that someone wheedling, pushing, bullying, badgering, or hardcore skeeving toward that end OOC is profoundly uncool. Basically, an OOC 'not interested' shouldn't get pushed or wheedled at or bullied OOC, as that's serious creeper territory.

I think the main difference -- if I had to put a pin in it -- is that you're chill with people pressing for it anyway IC through IC means, while a fair number of the MUSH crowd would be less so, and would find that to be 'pushing for it IC after the OOC no thanks came down'.

This is sticky (pun not intended); I've seen this from both sides.

I've had RP with no initial conversation that went somewhere IC, and that's very neutral ground if it's pursued further IC. I've also had instances in which the initial OOC conversation has taken place, and guidelines have been laid down amongst those involved... and then people push for things vastly outside them, or utterly contrary to them, through IC means.

There is a world of difference here between the two scenarios.

In the first, if something happens that's unwanted or squicky, it's not like the other party could have intuited so by magic[1]. It's not intentional. You know someone is not knowingly disregarding or disrespecting you on the player level, because it's a case of 'shit happens'.

In the second? Not so innocent. Player to player, limits were agreed upon. 'Out of bounds' was likely decided. Knowingly disregarding these things is already not good. Forcing them to happen anyway through IC means is now much worse, because the other player? They know it's not kosher on the player level, or it would have been in the safe zone in the first place.

It basically doubles up the squick factor, because IC force is being employed to steamroll the other player, regardless of whatever agreement was made (which means untrustworthy right off the bat on the player level, at the very least).

[1] Major taboo territory -- incest, bestiality, snuff, and similar 'you can't even legally buy porn of it' subject matter -- is still something that people should probably be prepared to assume is not automatically fair game, to my reckoning.
