Here's sort of a follow up question. We discuss running PrPs. Let's say there is a player like Ark who enjoys running PrPs and likes them to have impact. If the staff are 'generating' the Prp Leads it would then infer that they'd be part of things to have an impact most likely. I saw a lot of people comment about how staff would give players threads to run. What if that /was/ the methodology of the game. From Day 1 it was established that there are free form scenes (your BarP), there are Drama Scenes (Pre Generated outlines from staff that are meant fo rplayers to run to advance the story of the game) and then climax scenes where the results of the Drama Scenes come out.

The temptation may be to say 'well why wouldn't people just do nothing then show up to the Climax Scenes', maybe it could be limited to priority to those who participated AND ran the Drama scenes getting the first opportunities for the Climax Scenes?

Addendum: Climax scenes are found very often on Shang.

An interesting place, but the name is wrong.

Should be called 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia MUSH' because that's what everything devolves into. Who can yell the loudest, who is plowing who, and 'the Crew' doing everything with everyone else being Artemis or Rickety Cricket.

I think it would end up being to a degree a sort of 'generic fantasy game' in many regards; which would that be the most horrific of concepts? Again, this is purely in my batting ideas around in a public form phase as Ihaven't even heavily contemplated designing or running a game in 8+ years. However, the books gave me an inkling and I know there's been hints here in the past that a sort of fantasy esque game would be something people would like. Something less Lords and Ladies.

Just shooting from the hip, the sorts of character types that might be feasible would be obviously the military personnel, the support personnel and the like. But I could also see political agents and spy sorts having jobs and roles. It is a bit of a more 'narrow' theme in that regard but if approached from a chapter style where every few months the game transitions into a new area following the results of the previous campaign perhaps? Again, just throwing ideas up against the wall to see if anything sticks and to see if other minds have anything.

Truthfully I think a lot of my hanging around was this was one of the only non WoD places that had something going on. The lack of non supernatural/WoD environments with activity means you're willing to expand your tolerance of ham in order to be able to play something.

That's actually some of what I miss at times. I know in my logical mind that with RL, family, etc I can't have those 'glory days' of constant chaos happening and that it's very rose tinted glasses.

But there was a time where there were games that shit was always going down it seemed. WC:RH, Star Wars: Dark Horizons (irony there). Those 90's Star Trek games too, like Strange New Worlds, ATS... there wasn't this 'wait for staff to run something' mentality.

Which leads back to; there's a lot of great settings out there. But the problem is it requires people to run and babysit.

I believe, from reading the posts of others, having talked to people and knowing the background of Seraphim and blu, the issue is this being a pattern. A pattern of placing their chars in positions of authority and using those positions to manipulate players into behavior patterns they want. Whether it is as staff of their own games (fifth world/the 100) or of games they've staffed on (Various SW games), the result is always the same.

Play characters and insert self into position of authority ICly and OOCly.
Manipulate things OOCly to match their desires.
Get upset when things don't go right.
Quit.

I think the issue people have is that this cycle occurs and when you are making/running the game there is no check/balance on this happening. That's why other staff are important. It's also why when they do this on games they don't run (see: SW games) and the other staff dont' hold them in account, things get rough.

SImply understanding the dynamic you guys create, intentional or not, and bringing it to light is my own attempt. Love RPing with you two, love the stories. Wish that 'self' would come later; especially when in positions of OOC authority.
