    • RE: Potential Buffy Game

      @zombiegenesis I'd honestly just go with that, whether or not it's canonical. In YOUR buffyverse it's what happened.

      I also like the idea of a large city with a supernatural lure-- what about say New Orleans? Or even Portland, Or. Or Savannah, GA. Etc.

      I'd like young-ish adult but adult. Not high school, but college.

      helpfu files

      Prefs is code that is meant to help people find likeminded RP partners.

      +prefs
      This command will show your preferences.
      +prefs <name>
      This command will show you someone else's preferences.
      +prefs/list
      This command shows you the list of available categories.
      +prefs/set <category>=<0-5>
      This command lets you rate from 0 to 5 how much you enjoy that kind of RP. Think of these ratings like stat dots. 0 is no interest, 1 is mild, 2 is neutral, 3 is interested, 4 is significant, 5 is what you absolutely love. Roughly.
      +prefs/note <note>
      This code sets a note on your +prefs expanding or explaining anything you choose.
      +prefs/find <category>
      Finds all connected people with the specified category rated 3+.

    • RE: TinyMUX: How to set default player attributes?

      Create a character parent, and then in the server set the player_parent to that dbref. So all players are automatically parented to it.

    • RE: Anomaly TrekMUX

      @Runescryer Not sure if you're talking about Anomaly or Gamma One, but that was one of my biggest frustrations with GO. I kept trying to play medical officers specifically so I could funnel people through quickly b/c at the time of GO I had a lot of time to RP. ...and I kept letting Rapier/Daedalus convince me to take my characters in "more unique and interesting" directions, only to have him turn around and say: Oh yeah, your character is a nurse/counselor/whatever so they can't do medical stuff.

      @cobaltasaurus I was directly replying to another poster, who was saying many people in this forum are soul-crushing nitpickers, which I agree with. It has nothing to do with @ZombieGenesis who, as you yourself point out, didn't announce a game. Stop this nonsense.

      If you’re directly replying to someone try quoting them so people have context. However, having gone back to look at @Bad-at-Lurking ’s comments it STILL comes across as you casting shade on @ZombieGenesis for talking about a game that isnt fully formed.

      What I find really interesting that Seiche (Sieche?), made that list. She was nominated for a best series. I know that she's looked at by a lot of really veteran MUer with some cringing and hatred. But I think it's pretty awesome to see someone who was once an active MU*er getting nominated for a Hugo.

      And, hell. Her writing career is probably keeping her out of the MU*ing hobby?

      Was just curious how much you had on them. Are they based on anything in particular?

      I have more secret metaplot information written down about them, yes. 😉 . But I don't have more for public consumption on them and probably won't until we open and people start trying to explore (ill-advised!) other continents.

      As for "what's it based on?" -- I have specifically tried to avoid basing any of the cultures on any real world cultures except in the context of "how would humans react if they had X power or Y ability and how would that shape their culture", because I don't want to misrepresent anyone's culture.

      And I've tried to avoid basing them off of any fictional race/culture because I don't want to steal someone's intellectual properties.

      @Whirlwind once told me about a player on WC that had told him she always played characters with big tits, because they had big tits RL and so that's all she knew how to play.

    • Interest Check: Ares Facilitated Short Term Spy MU*?

      Okay, that's a mouthful but... I listened to a spy audiobook recently, and now I kind of want to play/run a short-term mini-mu* based around a spy org. My thought is maybe to pop up an ares mu* that would run for idk 4-6months or maybe for a little longer, based around a specific spy organization. PCs would all be a part of it, plot would be about espionage and stuff. Think Covert Affairs, Burn Notice, James Bond, etc.

      Any interest?

    • RE: Welcome to the Euphoria!

      @ZombieGenesis ❤

      Okay so thoughts today: Roster vs Non-Roster.

      My main thought on rosters is that while I like the structure of them, they cause some issues. What happens when people idle out? We're in space and there's no transferships to go to... So, how? Well, in this case I've decided that when anyone idles out they go back into cryogenic sleep. Allows for people to come back, also explains where people go when they go poof since this is well... not a place for transfers.

      But also when you have a stricture roster where you have say a place for four science officers, what happens when someone wants to be the fifth science officer? I don't like.

      But I also never really liked it when people could pop up and be like "I'm a exoterabiologist midship class 3".

      So I'll do a roster of "named" position, that are basically feature-esque type positions, and then a list of generic positions that have an unlimited number that people can be. It'll be the captain, second in command, then the head of departments, and maybe a few key positions, and then it'll be like "science officer" or "merchant" or "diplomat" and stuff.

      Flexible but with some structure.

    • RE: Shadow War - WoD Mage-Only (Revised)

      The main things that comes to mind is--

      What, other than mirrors into other realities, keeps the sleepers from figuring out what's going on?

      What happens when someone drives too close to the city limits (edge of the world)?

      Is the city now orbiting the sun as it floats in space?

      How do mages explain the changes in the constellations that would cause?

      What about spatial debris? (e.g. Pluto got reduced from planet to dwarf planet because it doesn't have enough mass to completely clear things from its orbital path. How do mages deal with spatial debris the city will come into contact with?)

      How far away from earth is the city?

      The other cities?

      @Arkandel said:

      They do know things! They know vampires exist - they drink blood, they hypnotize people. There are rumors they even have long-term control over them.

      Ignorance makes for dead hunters. Vampire-hunters should know that garlic doesn't do jack to vampires. Werewolf-hunters should know that werewolves can change whether or not the moon is full. It sounds supremely unfun to tell people they don't know things that they should to be able to do their job. Especially if they're playing someone with experience.

      This could be my kneejerk reaction to anything that even mildly relates to denying people information from "lores" given how tight-fisted the staff on LAmush was. Whether or not the monsters have an actual social structure is somewhat irrevelant-- they might not have those things in a Hunter only game. But building the game off of a foundation of ignorance from what you hunt? No.

      Absolutely not.

    • Mage 2E PbP

      I'm thinking about doing a Mage 2E PbP thing. Either here or somewhere else. We'd have no set schedule for posting thing. We'd likely use the wizards of the coast dice roller website and the honor system for rolls. (e.g. Don't fake out your rolls so you always succeed, that's awful. :< Or give yourself failures so you can take a beat for a dramatic failure.)

      I'll post something about what kind of campaign it would be once I know a little more on interest. However, it would absolutely-positively be heavily vested in mystery solving, and action. Not politics. I hate Mage!Politics. I hate Mage!Charters. HATE. HATE. You have immense cosmic power and you're going to quibble over who gets to wear the funny hat or the shiny badge? harrumph. AHEM. Anywise.

      Action-Mystery-Thriller Mage Play by Post. Anyone interested?
