@Cobalt Hey, saw that you're closing the game. It always sucks because you put in all that time and effort, and it all seems to go to waste.

I wanna apologize for not actively playing. I only played one scene with each of my two alts, but the general vibe of the RP just wasn't working for me. I think my expectation was this would be WoD-esque, prime-time supernatural show, but what I saw was mostly daytime sappy/skeevy-romance soap with fur. Might be fun for some folks, but not what I was looking for.

I also feel certain individuals involved in the sappy/skeevy-romance RP are kinda sus... they might even possibly be the bad actors you were referring to. Sucks even worse that it's because of these bad actors that you are forced to throw the game away.

In the larger scheme of things, this is not an isolated incident and we've all seen evidence of this in several other games in recent years. I'm pretty concerned with these individuals sneaking their way into games and repeating their manipulative/abusive behavior, and staff everywhere end up spending more time policing (and mole-whacking) than actually having fun.

I'll go a step further to claim that most hobbies are, by the nature of being such time-sinks, requiring hefty emotional investments.

When it comes to multiplayer games then another dimension is added that hinders growth; you aren't doing them alone. So leaving doesn't merely leave a hole in your life and habits but strips you of a social network you may have depended or relied on.

For example if you're into a solo habit the time consumption can certainly be there. Doing puzzles or gardening can take up many, many hours of your time. But should you decide to stop or cut back, hard as it might be, there is less of an impact.

Many 'social' hobbies, including but not limited to MU*ing, strip you of people you call friends if you stop participating. It's not just gaming; try to get out of being a hardcore local team fan. Or volunteering for something as part of a group.

Ultimately the real killer - for me - is the very human trait of expecting something back for the investment. It's pretty natural, isn't it? If we spend multiple hours a day doing something then on some level there's some emotional projection that we'll get something in return. With something like a MU* the only such thing is having fun while you're playing; and the call of whether it's worth it is a personal one.

But there's nothing inherently wrong with it. MU*ing isn't less 'worth it' than being a hardcore soccer fan, which millions of people are.

Kind of mad that I only just saw this thread. Since I'm suddenly just kind of being chill and doing random RP shit I don't normally do.

@Roz I've tried TN and as much as I wanna like it b/c I think the staff there are pretty awesome, the game itself just overwhelms me so badly. But I do highly recommend to other people.

I'm currently gonna work on a character for GH.

I'm reskinning the names of Hermetic Magic and Wild Magic to 'Lesser Works' and 'Wishes' and changing some of the thematic ideas behind them. To re-eninforce the idea that this isn't Mage: the Awakening but Second Sight. 😛

Often, and this isn't necessarily relevant for Euphoria, it's because staff-run plots 'count' whereas other RP doesn't. Anything that isn't run by staff is social RP, and that doesn't count towards... whatever it is people keep score of.

That is, simply put, dumb. Not your take on it. People who behave this way.

Because many staff pick up stuff from the flow of social rp to run with. Because players are sometimes handed plot by staff that will impact the world / metaplot (I have had this on multiple occasions over the years and it has been advertised as 'this event pertains to metaplot' and people still don't show up').

It's just this....need....to have a Staffer at the helm. Like people need to perform for them. And I think it burns out staffers and hurts games.

But this isn't euphoria feedback and it's me feeling frustrated because I enjoy euphoria. I want to be able to jump back in once I'm over my current burnout but I'm afraid to run prps if no one is gonna care just because I'm not staff.
