    • RE: Book suggestions

I recently discovered Larry Correia. Definite recommendations here for his work.

I've read everything that he has out for the Monster Hunter International Series, and his other series, the Grimnoir Chronicles.

As a gamer, and a general lover of Man vs Monster and 'Hard-boiled Private eye' stuff, well. I devoured it all!

    • RE: Good Things

I had class today (EFM - Education for the Ministry) - so I headed out at 1PM by bus down to Church, my partner in tow. We had a very nice lunch, Chinese food from the nearby Mall, I carefully re-read the assignment to be sure I wouldn't look like an idiot at class - My section is studying the history of Christianity, just reached 900-1200 and the rise of Russia as 'The Third Rome'. My mind was blown, I never knew that the Vikings had raided Russia too, and even settled there and started a successful trade route with the Byzantine empire. Read about the Tartars too, and Lithuania's Animistic leaders. (Who eventually became Catholic, mainly to stop Catholic Military Orders from raiding them constantly.)

Supper was fantastic: Ham steaks with a thick cherry glaze, scalloped potatoes and ice cream. Episcopalians understand the concept of food as fellowship pretty well.

Did the class, and was glad I'd gone over the reading again, because I got called on to discuss it. We did a theological reflection of the nature of Baptism, and that was enjoyable discussion. Finished as usual with Compline, and just as we were finished my SO burst in to tell me our bus was there to take us home.

Ahh, my week is over now. Friday I can do some tasks for my Ministry and then seriously just relax and RP and have a easy day.

      Life is good.

    • RE: Demon: The Descent Post-Apoc Game -- Issues and Concerns

My only super-serious concern is how /very/ staff intensive it will be. That would be less of an issue if Demon's basically the dominant Sphere on a place, but my read-over of it suggests that staff needs to be ready and willing to work hard to keep things moving, to keep up the sense of peril/threat, you really can't just tell the players that the antagonists are lurking 'out there' and being a danger - they have to /be/ threatened.

No kids here, I have cats instead. Which has its own set of issues.

Another peeve, albeit a definite First World problem.

Regional foods. I lived for a long time in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This means I was incredibly spoiled for dairy, of course: cheese, fried cheese curds, ice cream, custard, butter. And for the most part that stuff is attainable in Indianapolis, where I now am. Indy even has Culvers.

But not pastys. Anywhere. Not in stores, not in restaurants, A pasty is a pastry shell filled with meat, potatoes, parsnips and turnips, onion and gravy. (Sometimes carrots too). Basically a hand-held meal.

They're so common in Wisconsin that you can buy them in the grocery as a frozen heat and eat food item.

      I want pastys. 😞

@Thenomain - you cad. I spent some time wondering WTF contract that was. 😉

I'm a little short on RP because staffing, but I'm happy with the players I am working with. They've been very flexible and understanding. A good bunch.

I have been in the hobby for a VERY long time indeed. My first ever character, back in the Dark Ages, was Dave@GarouMUSH. Silver Fang Philodox turned Child of Gaia (The Fangs kicked him out for falling for a Mage).

I was on the following MU* but damn me if I can remember who I played:

      Darkweb
      Double-Cross (I was Hestia the build-wiz)
      Due Rewards
      A2A

      Alissa@MC

      Bramble@TCbTT1

      Adrian@Malice
      Thomas@Malice

I was on SYE as a staffer (Sabbat Wiz) and played too many people, none of whom are memorable.

It's absolutely none of my business but for the lols, so a Vampire is no longer Kindred? Golconda via the Hedge? 🙂 I had assumed Claudio had simply used the same concept but rolled as Lost this time.

Transformation by act of Gentry, as it does say in the printed material that sometimes Supers get taken. He took the usual power cuts for being a Transfer, too.

@darksabrz Mage and Proximus, Changeling and Fae Touched, Werewolf (Pure and Forsaken) and Wolfbloods, Immortal (No Body thieves or Bloodbathers) - Mortal, Psychic, Thaumaturge. All mortals get the 4 point Merit Sleepwalker for free. Reality Natives get bonus merits and a free build for a 'safe room' (RN Changelings may take this as a Hollow.)

@Arkandel Yes, The only time a Template change is allowed for a Transfer is if they are a Template SHH does not support. Vampire being on the list of unsupported things, he was allowed to rework as a Changeling.

Transfers will be ending very soon. The last possible day is Jan 31, 2015.

Mages are close to the cap.

I would just like to say FUCK THIS WINTER CRAP.

I live in an -old- brick house. I am very sensitive to cold, and once I get cold it takes me forever to get warm again, It's been 1 degree here for several days with a wind chill of -26F.

I am done with Winter. H-a-t-e.

    • RE: Crime

I've almost reached the point where I feel you can have a Crime Sphere or you can have an official Law Sphere, but not both. This may come from having to mediate one too many situations where the cops had everything they needed to bust someone due to hard work and RP and the target refused the whole notion that they could ever be caught, or the number of times criminal PCs wanted to pull the I am Invincible thing,

On TR attempts were actually made to implement consequences for crime. It went over like a lead balloon. How dare we interfere with their twinky fun?

Some of the cops were pretty bad too. (I'm looking at Mr PC Police Detective who was handed evidance involving several PCs IC killing sprees and did...absolutely nothing with the information, you would think that the police might have had an interest in those dead bodies and mass graves, but no, Don't let possible plot interrupt the IC coffee and doughnuts,.)

      Bleh.

@Glitch - We are paying Coder real Money. She's a contractor. She may or may not play, probably depending on if she can get a were-Otter, but she's going to be cashing a paycheck,

    • Steps in deciding to run and setting up a MUSH

This look about right? (Written for a good friend)

      To-Do list for MUSH Establishment

      1. Name MUSH. Pick Setting, Theme (Write the Newsfiles) choose staff theme names (Mountains in our case.)

2 Decide what Spheres will be allowed. All-Sphere is inclusive, but it can in reality be too unwieldy and hard to staff. 3 Super Sphere plus Mortal may be the best way to go. Or we can try all-sphere. Your call, this is your money!

      1. Find staffers for the appropriate Spheres. These people must NOT sit idle, they need to immediately write the News files for their Sphere. Dedicated Wiki staffer may be a good idea.

      2. Hire Coder. Give coder all needed "We need this common code, we need this customized code." information, including code specs. Coder can immediately begin gathering code from Github/other coders they know, and writing any custom code we need. Make sure to include in your negotiations with them who -owns- the custom code. The polite thing to do is ask them to share it widely under the Crative Commons license.

      3. Get everyone to write a substantial amount of News and help files. This can all get done before a site is purchased. to save money. Make sure all the RP staff understand the Theme and Setting. Get people planning initial plots. Make sure everyone's down with the staff structure and the basic rules of operation that will be used. Buildwizard(s) Can begin writing grid and planning layout.

      4. Aquire site. Three people need the PW for this: Coder, Sitewiz, Owner. No one else ever will need access.

      5. MUSH goes up. All staffers get staffbits. Coder and Wiki staff go to work slamming code in and setting up Mediawiki. Sitewiz assists. Newsfiles go in, Help files go in, Wiki person starts making the Wiki nice. Forums go up. If the MUSH is going to offer Job archiving to Forums, now is the time to set that up. Give everyone on staff a Wizbit, because paranoia about it is so 1970's.

7 Once the +news. +help, Grid, code, Wiki and all that jazz is assembled, test the fuck out of everything, seriously. Test it twice.

      1. Ads go up. Short period of soft-open to handle initial apps and introductory play.

      2. Game on.
