    • RE: FCs on Comic MUs

@ganymede said in FCs on Comic MUs:

And this is my stance because no one has ever provided me with a satisfactory answer to the question: "why do you need to play more than one feature character on a game?"

Here is the one arguably valid response to that I can offer: when the comic subgenres differ significantly enough that it would be tricky for character A to be involved but character B would be a solid fit.

For example: if someone's looking to get a hardboiled/noir groove going, Punisher or Daredevil or the Question might be awesome FCs to play. However, Superman or Wonder Woman or Reed Richards might not work so well. (Is it possible to play any of this second list in such an aesthetic? Sure, but the hill's a little steeper, I'd say.) Naturally, some characters are super flexible regarding subgenre overlap and the player for such a character might have less 'argue' room for alt need.

(This assumes, of course, a broadly inclusive approach to comic themes rather than a focused one, like where everyone's involved with the X-Men or is riffing on Batman: The Animated Series.)

I'm also trying to get some sci-fi adventure off the ground there, so more participants would be welcome!

I would also love to find some like-minded goofballs and get neck-deep in Giffen-esque JLI shenanigans.

    • RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?

@gryphter I'm intrigued by your suggestions. Two questions, and neither is meant to be snarky:

      1. What would you see the focus of an Umbrella Academy being? A larger/extended family of fuck-ups?
      2. Would it be possible to have a TMNT game that did not quickly become a "furry" game? (Is this even worth wondering about?)

@social-diseases Also, to help spur movement toward setting up such a game, Volund has a suite of potentially useful code that might account for everything except whatever kind of CG might be desired. https://github.com/volundmush/mushcode

    • RE: What Is Missing For You?

I'd love to see a superhero game that promoted player-based changes to the state of the world/grid. While most games say they allow it through submitted player-run plot proposals etc., there doesn't really seem to be much permanent effect (even considering the tendency of comics to reset things after some time anyway). I know that staff don't want to let completely batshit ideas go through, but the result seems to be a lot more inertial resistance to potentially interesting ideas for fear of disrupting the initial status quo.

I'd love to see a game with a theme like that of the comic The Realm, modern post-apocalypse + dark fantasy tropes.

    • RE: New Games and Feature Characters...

@the-tree-of-woe It's because people aren't always clamoring to RP with Jimmy Olsen, but they are for Wolverine, Batman, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, and other big names.

That's not to say a Jimmy Olsen player can't be amazing. They'll just have to convince others to RP, while someone playing Batman generally doesn't have to do that work.

@Ghost Eventually I'll need help, but I am content for the moment to move along at a decent stroll.

@Coin It got released early last night, so feel free to binge at will. So far, it's over-the-top as expected but not (yet?) as cringey-edgy as the comic.

    • RE: If you work hard, son, maybe someday you'll RP

I will admit I'm about at the end of my rope on this issue, at least when it comes to superhero/comics games.

I've offered specific scene ideas on various chat channels and in OOC lounges; I've offered to do so on the fly for any takers; I've @mailed people to try to schedule scenes; I've even set up a round or two of a scene customized for another player and had that player log out in the middle of it, no later explanation provided. All I tend to get are alts at risk of inactivity because trying to get scenes for logs is apparently now a Herculean task for me.

I'm starting to think I must be doing something that just doesn't jive with MUSH culture any more. Is it just time to hang it up and find some other way to use my time?

    • RE: Coming soon: Lawless Space MUSH

I think I may open this up to some super-alpha testing soon, for anyone interested.

There are a few things I need to tighten up and test out, but I'm hopeful that the game will be fully open before too long.

@Ominous So kind of like (to name a few comics for inspiration) throwing the OMAC Project, Damage Control, the Powers Bureau, and Checkmate into a blender? Sounds awesome.
