World of Darkness is even worse because you are literally trained ICly to see everyone as a potential enemy who isn't in your click.

Yeah, I think this is at best half-true, and inapplicable depending on how you read the books.

I prefer to think of most WoD games as being a clowder of cats.

      lots of cats

Kitties are pretty; kitties are cute; but put enough of them in a room and the cuddling gets overwhelmed by the fighting and the stench. Staff, basically end up like this:

      too many cats

      But people still like cats.

This makes me curious, not about all the dark things and secrets that transpired on RoK, but about this PC and their personality.

He was one of the Fisher Kings. Over his two hundred years, all he wanted was a family to raise; first, as a mortal, then as an immortal. But, as with all Fisher Kings, those loyal to him turned on him. He became depressed, and ended up coming to Kingsmouth to serve a friend of his from the Anglo-Indian Wars.

Along the way, he fed on a wayward orphan. Feeling responsible for her, he "adopted" her and brought her overseas. In his new home, he had no money and no job, so he started to do contracting work at night. During the day, he had a minion make sure his "daughter" went to high school; at night, he worked, he fed, and he kept up with the undead world.

But his "daughter" was as all teenagers: she wanted to go out, meet other teenagers, and do teenager things. She could do that at the local bowling alley, while he watched over her from the lanes. And that's what he was doing there: pretending to play while watching his ward, and making sure that any teenager who tried to "prey" on her did otherwise.

He was a lot of fun. He could go anywhere because "someone" called for a plumber or some other repair dude. He was a handyman, a single dad, just tryin' to make it in a vampire's world.

And then there was "the Great Turtle," but that's another story.

I wanted to RP with others at a bowling alley, and that created the entire personality for my PC on Requiem for Kingsmouth.

I'm sure he would not be holding that trophy without a ton of injuries around the league.

If your team is affected by the fall of a single player, then it wasn't a great team to begin with.

Toronto wasn't a team build around Leonard when they won; it was extraordinarily deep. No one could have predicted the seasons that both Siakam and Van Vleet had that year. But when people tell me they wouldn't have won but for Durant's and Thompson's injuries, I simply respond: maybe Golden State shouldn't have relied so heavily on them, to the point where they got worn out.

And that's why load management, a deep bench, and great scouting can allow a team to win without a super-team.

I think that Giannis' comments were aimed squarely at The Bearded One, and Lebron and Durant were just catching strays.

I'm not sure if Giannis meant any shade at all, in that everything he said is true.

But if it was targeting someone, that would definitely be anyone who left the team that raised them in order to be part of a super-team.

And Milwaukee is a smaller market that definitely deserves its recognition, like how LeBron brought a championship to Cleveland.

At least Durant has a couple. Leonard brought a championship to the North.

Harden has no rings. He's a transcendent talent. He's also impossible to play with.

I just wish it didn't often come hand-in-hand with an overpowered self-insert protagonist and a slew of tropey conquests to fight over him.

I think this is what keeps me away from anime these days, honestly. I just don't get this, at all.

Which is a shame, I suppose, but I love older anime, like Macross and Perfect Blue.

Which means I miss out on meeting new people and making unexpected connections, sometimes, but I accept that when it comes down to "playing the cards that RL is dealing me."

It should be said as well that, on Arx, sending and receiving messengers or engaging in flashbacks are equally valid forms of "social RP."

      Dieting is like getting married.

For some people, it's easy; for others, it's hard. Some people want the quick way to make it work; others want to take their time to develop it. In the end, whatever you choose, you'll have your ups-and-downs, and hopefully more good days than bad ones.

And if you decide on a divorce, that's fine, but don't get salty with me if I stay married.

Of course there are everyday heroes, but as a medic iRL I can assure you that most responses would be pretty dull to RP. A single season of a show like Chicago Fire is basically everything exciting that happened in every fire department across the US in the span of a year. 🙂

People: OMG, is being a lawyer like it is on Law and Order?

I think you may have a narrower definition of "RPG World" that some of us. I think what you're maybe getting at is that RPGs are often focused on heroic (or anti-heroic) people running around having adventures for months or years on end. That doesn't exactly happen every day in the real world.

I also didn't think it needed to be said, but in a bleak universe the moments of kindness stand out and turns the PCs into instant heroes for doing the things we take for granted.

Honestly, this makes me want to recruit for a pack of werewolves who live in some ramshackle duplex on the west side of town, and all work for the alpha's food truck, and the alpha most of the time is just trying to get everyone fed and feeling okay for the next mission because FOR FUCK'S SAKE WHY IS THE CLIATH EATING PASTE?!?
