I've been in a similar situation (apart from the parents part, my parents always supported me so I got it much easier). Newly divorced, without a job, without an apartment - then BAM, I got a job in another city and in the matter of a weekend everything sorted itself cause I just doggedly kept at it. It is NOT easy to ask for help - you're brave.

The game is still in Alpha and there's been ALL people apping in AT ONCE. And the mage staffer is also the main coder who is coding everything that isn't still done, because you know. Alpha.

This topic is interesting. I mean, the old debate of TS vs FTB has always been surrounded with a certain taboo - that you can't actually get aroused from TS, or admit to it. I mean, surely there are those that don't. Absolutely certainly, some get aroused.

Personally, I see it as from outside. It's like reading an erotic story, I mean, I can get excited about one of those, I get excited about TS too sometimes, but at no point do I think of my character as a first person extension of myself. I look at it from outside, as an erotic story of two persons having an erotic scene. And it absolutely has to fit into the story in general, fit the narrative. (This assuming the game isn't a game like Shang, of course, but I never played on any of those.)

I think, like Ganymede, I might realise I might get on well with someone in RP based on their general wiki/page, and that includes the PB. I like gifs, too. Fitting gifs that shows a bit of a character's mannerisms is awesome for a good visual.

Got a problem with the perfect model type looking women though. Doesn't do much for me. Quirky, cute, actual human looking... Yeah, definitely.

That feeling when you've been sick for over a week and been unable to do much at all in the house, and then suddenly you're feeling just fine again and you deep clean the bathroom and then have a shower in the sparkly clean place.

There's news files detailing what you need to know, plus people in game that has extensive knowledge about Terry Pratchet's world. I've read a few books, so I'm that amateur that knows a little, but I use those news files when in doubt, or ask on channel.

The setting is basically late 1800s if you compare with RL equivalent. There's some steam-punkish elements coming in. There is magic, but it's not used extensively, for various reasons.

All in all? It's not terribly complicated, and theme files will cover the bases

Running a PrP scene where everyone is awesome, and it goes on for six plus hours and it didn't even feel that long. Also the surprise about how the solved it all (even if I had vaguely thought it might go that way, I didn't expect it to) - so now there's even MORE story.

Oh gods, more story.

• That I switched to a local healthcare center because of reasons, and it's so nice to go to the one I went to as a kid and even more amazing, that this little hole of a place with less than 3000 inhabitants stand up against racism and other bullshit - the doctor is a foreigner and another doctor was starting his job there TODAY whose name is Mohammad (I don't know where he comes from) - he lives an hour away but drives here to work because this is the BEST healthcare center and the best little town that fight for each other and managed to show politicians that no, we don't accept you closing down our local healthcare. (sorry for the runon sentence)

@HelloProject It's just a small thing in the grand scope of things, but many small things combine to something big - and I'm hoping I will be - and am - one of those that contribute, and try to learn more day after day.

I can say with some shame I used to be ignorant about MANY things related to it all, and white priviledge. Over the years I've gotten more and more aware of my own biases and how I've been just not looking things up or trying to understand.

Either or, the thing I was coming to was that on Arx, I play a PoC - undefined in a manner, but definitely PoC, which when I picked the character up, due to his desc being vague on it, I /never even considered/. I immediately looked for pictures I enjoyed, and ANYTHING that came up, was indeed, white males. I belatedly had a conversation with one of his IC relatives, his cousin, who had a PoC desc/picture, and I had that unsure feeling of whether I should change or not, and decided NOT to at the time.

I decided to change his PB now, and oh boy - you're right. There's no reliable way of searching. If you search for black swordsman you do indeed get something else entirely. It should ABSOLUTELY be as you describe, and it annoyed the fuck out of me, and I mean, I'm as pasty white as it gets, and it gave me an eye-opener. Another one.

Either or, I did find a nice picture. My character is not black, but a PoC anyway (also I do feel a bit unsure about terminology, I am not American and I don't mean any offense if I chose the wrong words, feel free to educate me if I'm being dumb.) A picture that I am chuffed to bits about, that fits the character description perfectly. (Also to be sure you understand, he is not described as black - but black hair, dark olive skin.)

My job. I mean, I dont love it all the time, but sometimes it is just so damn fun.

Yesterday: train lost breaks, was heading straight for a town. They clear tracks so it can safely roll straight through, and reroute it so it will go uphill. Train stops cause of the hill. Freaking amazing.

Today: a moose has managed to make its way to the center of town and is on the station. Police and firefighters have to herd it to somewhere safe. Takes an hour and half, no trains can travel there mean while.

Nobody got hurt and we get more amazing stories

Getting the chance to do something so risky it might end up killing my character, but it's something of my own choice and I am so thrilled. If he makes it? Awesome. If not? Also awesome.
