RE: Fanbase entitlement
When I was a kid, I wanted a Transformer, my parents got be a Gobot for Christmas. It was one of the ones that were part of a bigger robot. I got the left arm and it was orange.
Couldn't name it if I tried.

RE: No Man's Sky Thread
@Ganymede It was also the second biggest launch on Steam and did really well with pre-orders on PS4 so of course the sales dropped. But that is a huge drop, worse than Batman v Superman did the second week at the box office.
(I too am one who loves the game. But games over-shooting is also why I don't pre-order anymore. If more people stopped pre-ordering, game companies wouldn't think it's okay to do it all the time.)

RE: Fanbase entitlement
@Karmageddon Oh yeah, it's not so much the judgeyness, but the assholeness of it.

RE: Fanbase entitlement
I think these posts sum up fanbase entitlement perfectly; people are only allowed to like things, if they like it the right way.

RE: No Man's Sky Thread
@tragedyjones You aren't the only one who wants it, but given that sales droped 81% in the second week? Who knows, really. Last month Xbox finally outsold PS4, but that's because XBone cut the cost of the current systems again in preparation for the Slim and Scorpio.

RE: Fanbase entitlement
True enough, but I still wouldn't want to go to high school now.
ETA my bullies in high school were more physical; pushing me so I slipped and now have a Barbie knee, and thinking it was funny to stick a live earwig in my sandwich.
Still rather have had to deal with that than what kids go through today.

RE: No Man's Sky Thread
@Wizz Luckily my cave had a small hole that sentinels could get into, and nothing nasty... so I attacked those damn little robots to see how they got in, and were able to blast my way out.
My fault, really, I never got into Minecraft so I never learned how to properly slope-mine, I guess.
In other news, there is a dude who hasn't left his starter planet yet, and has everything maxed out; suit, ship, toll.

RE: World of Warcraft: Legion
@Apu I went from 14 to 48 yesterday, mostly hiding. I only really all out attack in Westfall / Dun Morogh since you have to type /pvp in the starting areas, even if you tag someone accidentally.

RE: World of Warcraft: Legion
@Apu said in World of Warcraft: Legion:
I didn't think of having a lower level character could do the invasion stuff. Very interesting.
Yeah the bosses and everything else start to scale with your level starting at level 10. So the Level 100 is going to see level 100, meanwhile you, attacking the same mob see a level 37. And if you ding during an invasion, they level with you, they aren't what ever you started out with.
make sure to tag bosses then move away (since if you're dead you get no XP)
I've dinged, while dead in Azshara, having never touched an invasion boss or mob (died to the local fauna since I was level 14 so, my bad.) Usually I just hide in the Alliance building right at the start there.

@Arkandel said in Fanbase entitlement:
What I did say is that ultimately and unless they escalate their asshattery into criminal real-life actions (physically stalking, revealing private information, etc) it's just text written on a screen. It's like an (even more) evil version of WORA, and it can be ignored the same way as any other trolling.
The problem with saying it's only text, is that cyber bullying is a very real thing now, when it really wasn't an issue before.
Sure chasing people off of a social media platform, driving people to suicide, is all just words in the end and not criminal... but not just words.
Most of the time when people get dogpiled on by a few dozen people they might be able to shrug it off and ignore it. But a few hundred or thousand? When does it become not just words?

RE: World of Warcraft: Legion
@Arkandel Yeah tried that. Still get the assholes who flag on purpose though.

RE: RL Anger
The whole banning of a breed because they are aggressive is BS. Every decade or so it's a new breed that's bad. No. It's people who are bad.
And sometimes mistakes just happen. Dogs have big, sharp pointy teeth for a reason!

RE: World of Warcraft: Legion
You just have to be in the zone to get credit. Tapping a mob gives you more xp, but if you are little and worried about being ganked, you just have to be present. Dead, afk, doesn't matter.

RE: Fanbase entitlement
@Arkandel Sure, a lot of it is online. Then a Youtuber gets killed by one of their loving fans. Or a Moviestar. It's not really a new thing.
Personally I generally don't pre-order any more because someone says so many times something cool will be in a game and it isn't. Or it wasn't tested right before it came out and just had a shitty launch. Also why if I kickstart a game it's generally not as much as a full game might be.
But honestly words online or not, as soon as a fanbase starts thinking of something they like as belonging to them because they enjoy it, it's a slippery slope.

RE: Fanbase entitlement
Movie trailers generally don't, but then again the people who make the trailer aren't always the ones who make the movie. It's just another example of people being entitled.
For games though it is rarely "this is what we hope to have", at least it's not phrased that that way, it's "this is what we are going to have." Most people aren't going to take being told something will be in a game as it might be in the game, if we can put it in there.
Because it wasn't advertised as a single person game. If it was, they wouldn't have had to try and hide the online bits under stickers hiding the online play option. While you may take it as the dev saying it's something they want to have, they never say that. They say that this is what it will have. And if people put money towards what they were told anything would have, I think they have the right to be mad, and at least get their money back.
Just people who take it to the extreme with death threats are dicks.
But people in general are becoming more entitled. Every day I see a story about someone going up to someone else and telling them off because 1) They parked in a handicapped spot and walked out of their car, 2) they are fat and it offends the person, 3) They are depressed and they are bringing that person down, 4) @Cupcake 's whole dog in grocery store thing.
It's not just fanbases that are entitled, it's people in general.
