Star Wars Age of Alliances is pretty good. I'm on there and enjoy it.
Other than that I haven't found a good one that was stable (and by stable I mean the staff wasn't crazy).

@Kitty-Kat Not very familiar with the theme but sounds cool! I'll log in sooooon!
Definitely interested in playing here. Sounds interesting!
@misadventure Quite a bit. I mean, you could run one privately and have friends on it and have nothing happen. But any that were publicly available they went after like stink on a monkey.
Activision, last year, went after a text-based RPG-style mobile game about Destiny. It had ZERO micro-transactions, everything was paid for and developed by some guy who was doing it as a passion project.
In that case, though, Bungie stepped in and it was allowed to run (I suspect that the creator had to prove he wasn't profiting and there was likely some behind the scenes stuff going on).
I approve.
Keep me posted. I've been looking for a new game to play on, specifically Star Wars themed.
I was using Chromud
The odd thing about it... I found that using certain in game commands on MUSHes would force quit the game.. and they were common commands (drawing a blank as to what ones.. there were a few).
One of them was @set, but it was only if I was setting a specific attribute.
Bah this makes me sad. I was logging in semi regularly to see how you were doing in development. Was looking forward to playing!
There have been a few attempts at 40K games over the last ten years.. They have all fizzled out.
It's a rich theme, and lots of ways you can go about doing it.
Tau all the way here, just saying
I'd love to see a 40K game go up and stay up. Lots of potential. I'd be up for helping.
@RnMissionRun That would be an interesting idea to test. I'd play on a game like that.
I know my time on Trek games... like TOS or ATS... I stayed clear of the Federation.
I prefer playing as a Bajoran, Cardassian.. Even Romulan.
I didn't care for the shift in 'large scale' games to the 'ship crew' style of games. I'd rather be able to go out and do stuff then be confined to a ship that, if you have less than a stellar player base, may not be overly active.
@RnMissionRun said in Star Trek MU*s:
There's only two that you could consider "active". One is a MOO (WNOHGB), and the other is a glorified space combat sim (ATS). Neither of them are canon Trek. No new Trek game seems to be able to get any traction. Not sure why.
Because there is such a stink over them. So many started up from 2000 to 2015... Look at how many are left. Better yet, how many actually had decent leadership? Very few. Seen way too many implode due to bad leadership.
Look at what's been going on in the Star Wars MU* community. Same thing's happening now (IE: Zero, Vaapad, others, etc...).
I approve of this idea. If you need assistance, I'd gladly toss my hat in the ring.
This would be my kind of game. Thought I would stick to the Smuggler-type stuff, myself.
If you want help, toss me a message. I'm available most nights (about to take a full month off for surgery). Have previous experience.
Otherspace did this many year ago.. I want to say around 2001 to 2003 when Conflicts of Earth merged with them and both games were on the same server (played both games at the time, and was staff on CoE).
Code wise, it wasn't a big deal.. Both used HSpace, they each used their own Room Parents.. Bboard system was just a matter of setting up special boards for the new game and setting the permissions accordingly. Both ended up using the same CharGen system.
It really wasn't a huge thing regarding setup. It worked out well in the end. Not sure why it ended.. I think the CoE head admin had a falling out with Brody (think there was some sort of conflict in the background, I have my theories by nothing confirmed).
It's doable.
The reason they did it was CoE had a smaller playerbase, and the idea was that there was hope that both player bases would create alts in the other game. Staff was split between CoE and OS (although when CoE left, several staff members were absorbed into the OS team).
@Packrat This is true. He hasn't done this in some time though.
If I recall correctly (and I have been on and off his various games since Otherspace first started).. It started on Chiarosuro (original fantasy themed game) where players could pay for added benefits such as in game currency, etc...
He also published several books of Otherspace story arcs as well, I don't know to what success those may or may not have had.
The latest, which I don't think goes anymore since Otherspace is not active at all, was various contribution levels in return for ships, RP events, custom in game things.
Other than Otherspace (and it's various games) I don't know what other MUSHes have done it. That said, regardless, it isn't really a 'for profit' venture given the size of the community and how much you would bring it - it would mostly be 1-10$ chunks.
Personally, sure, I'd contribute monetarily to a game. Bonus if I got something, but at the end of the day I do it because I believe in the community and gaming.
Thank you for the kind offer, @WTFE. I appreciate it! I've already taken care of hosting and have the database setup.
Anyone wanting to assist in getting this sort of project setup, send me a message. I know I can't go it alone! And having people who love this type of platform for gaming support it would be great.
