I wish it had one-or-the-other: TV play or multiplayer capability (aka buy some joycons and play with your friend!).

Reports do say that you can still sync up additional joycons, so you can get the new little switch and some joycons and play with your friend that way. You'll have to gather around the handheld switch, but that isn't necessarily a problem, depending on the game. And there are a few games that use joycon features that aren't available in the mini model, so they wouldn't be a waste of money, even if you only occasionally use them for multiplayer.

'Master...the humans are far more capable than we were led to believe. To oppose them is to court...Death'.

I suppose the question there is if that was just a nod to his original backstory, or if they decided to change his motivation after they'd filmed that. Either is certainly possible.

They absolutely could tell the story of someone trying to court a cosmic entity with grand gestures like killing half of all life in the universe. But, they chose not to lay out the information that would have been needed to have it make sense. At the time, they may have been concerned about releasing a blockbuster movie that didn't make sense without seeing a bunch of others first, especially in the 'three to five movies, then reboot' genre of superheros.

But, somewhere, someone got the idea in their heads that Thanos had to be 'relatable' to the general audience,

To be fair on this point, I think someone realized that Thanos's comic motivations, impressing the cosmic embodiment of Death, didn't really work without some sort of establishment of such cosmic entities. Without that infatuation, he'd just be a guy who likes to kill people for no particular reason, which is a pretty lame motivation for someone that's been built up over all of the Marvel movies.

His comic personality is good, but it relies on a lot of backstory that just isn't in the movies.

No Cheezburger, sadly. I don't think he survived the nukes.

Also, the 17 year time skip would be a long time for an adult diabetic grizzly bear to survive, even if he was just chilling the whole time, after surviving the nukes.

    • RE: Fate Accelerated Questions

@misadventure said in Fate Accelerated Questions:

It's a great idea (how strongly you affect the fiction) but I feel that you'd run out of reasons pretty quickly. At that point you do not differentiate between say Bullseye throwing something, and Gambit throwing something charged, or Superman's heat beams.

On the abstract mechanical level, what is the difference between Bullseye throwing something, Gambit throwing something, and Superman's heat beams? Narratively, they all have the same impact on a story. Character does 'a thing' and something at a distance is impeded. If they target a car, Bullseye makes the perfect shot, Gambit blows up something important, and Superman melts the tires to the ground, but the net effect is the same, it's just the description of how it happens that's different.

Unless someone can tell me how you avoid making up extremely lucky shots constantly.

Don't put Superman and 'a good archer' in the same environment, long term. FATE seems to work best when everyone has the same level of narrative power. Green Arrow comes with a whole quiver of narrative excuses, but he doesn't really spend that much time around Superman in a way that would 'outdo' him, even if they are both Justice League members. But, when they work together, it's not just Green Arrow watching Superman handle everything.

If it's an archer against Superman, then it's probably going to fall back on kyptonite/magic arrows, because Superman, specifically, is a little OP in a fight, which is why it seems like the all of the kyrptonite in the universe must have found its way to Earth, with how much is around to create some risk for Superman in his stories.

    • RE: Podcasts? Podcasts!

Two more fiction podcastsI'd recommend are:
      Archive 81
      The Magnus Archives

Two fictional podcasts with a common theme of collecting and investigating records of things that don't seem entirely natural, with a narrative within the records being managed and involving the ones managing the records.
