@kanye-qwest you should probably @ that at another admin. Seems like it would get seen faster.

RE: Too Much
the thing that is lacking in a text interface is ... seeing that someone else is in the middle of talking. Maybe someday a mud client will be developed that shows when someone else is typing -- dialogue, not action.
This seems possible.
There are ways this could be coded, but the way it's done could also be handled via (spammy) OOC messages, possibly combined with pose guidelines.
I think it could be done and used for some scenes, but I don't think most players would like it, as most things I can think of require them to add something to a pose to indicate how it can or should be responded to in terms of interruptions, and changes in pose order.
Is anyone interested in this topic as its own thread?

RE: Wild Cards
My answer is have the setting, in terms of social traits and the health of a city/country, be affected by the actions of the characters. They may not be a social movement, but as stars of the show, they at the least reflect what is shifting and what isn't in society. Find a way to reward scenes and story arcs that play into that.
But I always say that.

RE: Usernames and MU names
Mine is unpleasent.
When whatever version of WORA came up that I joined, a woman had just been mauled to death by two dogs whose owners didnt like her life.
I found it biiterly funny that they were charged with ...
"Keeping mischievous dogs"So I was going to be "Mischievous dogs" as a reminder of how shitty people can be, and how most of life just goes on. Apprpriate when dealing with some parts of the MU* community.
I happened across the term "death by misadventure" and it:
- seemed nicer
- acknowledged that I expected to get rolled by participating (and I was not disappointed)
- a family name is Chance which is sort usualy part of misadventure
And for a while there was the moment when people were gendering up their user names, and Miss Adventure was right there.

RE: Books...Books...Books....
@derp nah the style doesn't bother me. I've already read it. I llike the format, Dangerous Liasons is also enjoyable.
I've been enjoying looking closer at the character or nature of the heroes, and noting the emotional support that critical to morale and sense of value to the risks taken.
I just can't read for long, which is sad given I have nothing else to do.

RE: What does Immersion mean to you in MUs?
Consistency of context helps, by which I mean that the importance placed on a given thing is fairly consistant, so a character's actions are placed in context. I think that many games resort to its the end of the world because they don't know how to make lesser things seem universally important to players.
Is killing someone a big deal in a realistic modern suburbs setting? How about in a swords and sorcery setting? When you stand up for racial or cultural respect, are you in an 1830s England, 1950s US, or Federation of Planets setting?

RE: RL Anger
Do none of these vets actually pay attention to how underfunded the VA is??? Why the fuck would you do military service if not to benefit the country at large?

@wretched Can we give ratings in the form of "kitty rocca"?

RE: What locations do you want to RP in?
That idea of everything is actually messed up always goes against the grain for me. I've been in places where bloody revolution was about to happen, where you don't walk on the side of the road because (not mines) there are bodies in shallow graves, places where corruption is the norm, and still people are people. They try to live normal lives.
To push it so far reminds me of Paranoia, where yep everyone really is a traitor, etc. Farcical. The film Brazil is about as far as I can see things, because the oppressor is human, and the populace is still human.

RE: Books...Books...Books....
A mid teen relative is just getting into reading and I would like to encourage it.
I am told they enjoyed The Song of Seare YA fantasy series. "Sword and sorcery with a light Christian element" I am told.
Does anyone have any series to recommend that might fit that description well enough?
PS Yes yes, resurrection of a thread, something something with strange aeons even death may die, bleh blableh.

RE: Gamifying Plots
No comment on your actual question, but I will say that unless you make sure that staff do not spend more than 50% of their time on purchased plots then you will defacto be saying that you need to be in a group to get staff run plots. It won't be on purpose, just folks being busy. Just something to be aware of.
I had been hoping this was a question on what is it that players are actually trying to do, and whether its a game in any sense of the term.

RE: [Ethnicity Thread] Who Do You Think You Are?
Czech-German. Bohemian atop that (which is just more Slav with German).

RE: Another leave of absence
I have told my cats that while it is true that dinner is only so much food at 6pm, their life is not as sad as a robot cat's life.

RE: What locations do you want to RP in?
@wizz One thing I never want to lose in any setting is the sense that (for players) they understand and can relate to the typical NPC of the setting. Human beings can adapt to a great deal (because among other things we are a terrible species to ourselves), but there is some point where I feel like that common ground, that common grounding in human experience no longer applies.
Even in Dark City, where no one was who they seemed to be, there was that idea of core humanity coming through. I personally see that in the various Vampire moralities, though some are definitely real attempts to become something else. Many, however, seem to be justification to indulge in very human behaviors.

RE: Gamifying Plots
What are the most productive and/or enjoyable group scenes related to plots?
Perhaps suggesting those would give staff an endpoint to get groups or singles and pairs to head towards.
As example, I do like plots where many skills can contribute, however, I have little use for a scene where everyone poses reading research results. It takes up time, and can be safely left to players who WANT to RP around that framework, without staff attention.
Staffs primary value (in this topic) is validating efforts (both reporting success, and making sure that successes are tracked as they affect stories) and adding in new information for players to mull over and make preparations based on etc, to link up unconnected PC efforts if they should, and whatever management risks and costs (from lost contacts, to combat) need.

RE: POLL Gothic Fantasy System
I'd choose neither.
What do you mean by Gothic Fantasy? Warhammer? Castelvenia? Shadows of Esteren? Leagues of Gothic Horror?

RE: Open Sheets?
Did anyone mention +sheet mechanical items that would reveal a secret, like having a power that only a certain faction has, or skills you keep hidden ICly, as well as anyone trying to be undercover or under the radar?

RE: RL Anger
I'm surprised people assume that someone is from 4chan, as opposed to thinking that behavior from 4chan has spread out.
Or is this one of those ways to undermine anything someone says like calling them passive-aggressive?
