@ZombieGenesis Good deal. I can handle not taming dinos, but damn do they make gathering a bit easier.

RE: Ark: Survival Evolved / Conan: Exiles
@ZombieGenesis Curious. Do you alter the taming rate for dinos at all? I've seen two camps for it, mostly. The people that insist you can't really play the game without altering it and the people that insist if you alter it then you're cheating and thus terrible. I prefer to alter it to something slightly more realistic for people that have jobs and lives outside of taming a dinosaur... but I can play it either way.

I adore Ark, and will happily kick a couple bucks towards shared space.

RE: Dungeons and Dragons
@Arkandel Eh, they haven't mentioned a payment model yet so I'm sticking with 'for free' until they do. There's no telling how long the beta will last, could get some good time out of it!

RE: Dungeons and Dragons
@Arkandel Actually, what they've put up is THE Compendium. Not just monsters. The basic rules for how to play the game. Basic equipment, armor, mounts, lifestyle costs, spells, etc. A breakdown of the stats (both abilities and skills). How to run a basic campaign. Essentially... everything you would need to run a D&D 5E starting campaign.
Edited to add: Spells. All the spells. Searchable by class, name, level, tags, casting time, or any mixture of the above. You can search multiple classes at once, refine the search through level, toss in any tags (healing, utility, etc.)... its easier to find that one spell you want than ever before. The spells list has a handy button that takes you back to the Compendium to if you need to refresh on how to cast a spell, under the same header you can look at schools of magic, combining effects... this is pretty nifty stuff!
Items are listed as searchable first by Category (armor, potion, etc.), then name, rarity, if it requires attunement, tags, and the magic bonus the item offers. Again, you can search multiple categories at once and the top righthand of the page has a handy link to take you back to the Compendium for Magic Item rules.
Monsters: Searchable by Category (Aberration, Celestial, etc.), Name, Challenge Range, Size, and Environment. Also with handy button to take you straight to the Monster Rules.
They've just put everything from at least one, and possibly two books, online, for free.

RE: RL Anger
Got the feedback on my 'work so far' today and one of the things my instructor wants me to do is to replace my intro with 'Welcome to my slice of the web.'
Don't forget the animated construction gif at the bottom with the visitor counter!
Also, isn't that a mixed metaphor? You don't slice webs. Shouldn't it be something like "my strand of the web" or something?
Don't judge them! You don't know their life! Maybe they slice webs all the time! I bet Wolverine slices webs.

RE: Random links
@Thenomain I can agree to that disappointment. I just don't see where an island of women that were all personally created by some uberbeing, need to have pit and/or leg hair. Said uberbeing makes 'em how it wants 'em.

RE: Silly-ish Poll
Yeah, I've always thought of it as the 'fluff' stat. The one you have that never gets used. Politics, Socialize, Science, even Animal Ken... to a lesser extent, most of the Social skills outside of Empathy/Intimidation/Persuasion/Streetwise/Subterfuge tend to be thought of as 'dump' stats.

RE: Random links
TBF, neither comic nor cartoon version of Wonder Woman had pit hair either. NONE of the women there had any type of body hair outside of the usual long, flowing locks and eyebrows. Maybe they were MADE without it.

RE: Dungeons and Dragons
@Ganymede Everything up to 4e is, I presume this is WotC's attempt to perhaps release 5e pdf's without having to go through third party sellers.

I have signed up for the beta and look forward to seeing what all it will offer1

RE: Where's your RP at?
@Arkandel My initial comment was 'need a game that involves actual risk of character death/dismemberment/getting your shit jacked/etc.'... and it got responded to as if nothing but PC death had been mentioned. So I have stopped giving fucks about being told that I am cherry-picking.

RE: Where's your RP at?
@surreality I don't see why we're being held to a higher standard than you're holding yourself, or others, to. The same exact argument, reversed, has been getting thrown up here over and over again as to why games that allow non-consent PC death (whether by pvp or NPC) should be avoided or not allowed. I'm being told that because I like a game that has a risk of character death, that I am obviously advocating for PVP and PKing and that I want everyone's character to die. I never told anyone they had to play on that game. I never suggested that if you don't want your character to die that you should play there anyways. I'm actively saying, if you don't want that to happen, then don't play on a game where that can happen. I'm questioning why people that don't want character death to be a thing will play on a game where character death is a thing.
PK and PVP is a thing. But it happens to a SMALL percentage of characters. Character death at ALL is relatively rare, even on most non-consent games. I'm honestly curious if people are so attached to a single character that they can't bear to see it die? Is it because so many characters and games over the years have petered out, fizzled, or otherwise died before people got to come to any kind of conclusion for the characters that now they insist on their story running its course, for however long that may last? I just can't form that kind of deep attachment to... a fictional character that doesn't exist beyond my own head. So I try to understand why people are clinging so hard to a single character or story.

RE: Where's your RP at?
@ThatGuyThere That's fine. I've stopped watching shows because they wouldn't let go of a particular repeating trope. I've also stopped watching because a show went WAY past when it should have ended.
But really, I do the same. I pick a game because something about it sparks an idea for a character. If the character dies, sometimes I get a new idea, sometimes I find a new game. But I never let the possibility of the character dying stop me from playing on the game.

@mietze I think you might need to double-check here, hun. Nobody, until you, was talking pvp. Character death in plot or prp is generally at the hands of NPC's. Consent isn't just about player versus player. It goes for accepting inherent danger in dangerous situations... as ST'd with NPC's.
I have been talking almost exclusively about PvP scenarios, and they absolutely happen.
I'm not saying they don't. But I was absolutely not talking about pvp (specifically, anyways), I was talking about character death as a whole. I refuse to base an entire discussion about character death solely on ONE aspect of it.

In addition most systems do have a get out of jail free way to get around PC death, even if it costs something in return.
I think people who fixate on death as the only measure of True Morality on a consent game are kind of weird. Even on games that are anything goes, usually people don't think like that.
If you're playing a monster that's in a war against other monsters, suddenly beating someone up or stealing their car doesn't seem like a big deal.
Mike burned down a building, huh... anyone in it?
'Nah, it was empty.'
Oh... that pussy. He needs to sack up or the (insert bad guys here) are gonna skin him alive and wear him as a coat.It is rarely the fault of the game if the staff and/or players refuse to adhere to or enforce the theme/rules of the game.
-
RE: Where's your RP at?
Okay, since this is still continuing.... if people are so against character death... why are people playing on non-consent games, where you can, in fact, lose your character for nothing more than a bad dice roll? So far as I know, none of the active MU*s at this time are consent-based. So... what gives?
-
RE: Where's your RP at?
@faraday But they don't. Not always. Look at interviews with some of the most famous authors of today. They will freely tell you that often, the narrative runs away from them and what they had intended. That characters will do unexpected things. That stories will turn out differently. And a MU* is NOT a book OR a tv show, and trying to equate it to one is a fallacy. Also, even if you were going to equate it to tv... you aren't the writer OR the director. You're either the viewer or the actor, neither of whom will likely know the character is going to bite it until an episode or two before it happens, or the episode itself. The actors have zero say in when or how it happens. And we the viewers complain CONSTANTLY if we have an episode 'spoiled' for us by telling us what happens before we get to watch it.
@Alamias grins I miss Kaleb. He was fun to ruffle.

@Alamias Maaaaaan, I was never so happy as I was when one of my vamps managed to piss Kaleb off. I can't recall if it was Sera or Ramona. But like... that was an ACCOMPLISHMENT, dammit. XD
Sera. I remember that....it was fun times. And for the life of me I could not roll for shit when I was trying to Mesmerize her either, so Kaleb was all flustered....
TBF, Sera was built to be a wall of resistance. Her resistance traits were all damn near maxed out, she had all the best merits and Carthian devotions for resisting mind/emotinal control, damage, etc. She was made to be a tank.
Didn't Kaleb end up punching some other dude over it?
