@Coin The whole point of my post is that dickish GM's are a part of why more people won't investigate the out of place newspaper. Its not that it went unnoticed, its that its such a small thing to be deemed 'out of place' that the kneejerk reaction of 'if I ask about this, I'll get punished in some fashion' still happens. So while a clever GM might go 'why didn't people look at the out of place newspaper?!? It was RIGHT THERE! It was SO OBVIOUS!'... that's why. Potentially, anyways. Its not that it wasn't noticed, its that some people are more afraid of getting smacked down for chasing after details.

RE: Roleplaying writing styles
@Auspice In part, you can also blame the asshole GM's of yesteryear for part of that. A lot of people that I know of, have learned to NOT chase down every little thing that seems 'out of place' or 'unusual', simply because of those sadistic fucks from the days of tabletop (and even earlier years of MUSHing) that would punish players for searching every nook and cranny for hidden clues/doorways/catches/etc. You learned quickly that if you 'wasted' the GM's time by investigating every little thing, you would suddenly incur the Wrath of Deus Ex Machina and find yourself facing some crazy shit like a Lich King in a dungeon full of kobolds and spiders.

I was in the beta(or super early FTP release, I forget which), too, but got to the grinding hell of the mid level 20s. That saved me from the game. I've heard they fixed that stretch of the game, but the endless wind sprint fetch quests of the middle of the game really left a bad taste in my mouth.
The first 20 levels was fantastic, though, I'm tempted to jump back in and take another swing at it.
With the current 250% XP boost until April 10th, you can do just class quests and still hit level 20-25 by the time you're off the starting planet. No need for grinding at all!
What I've been recommending is to do ALL the quests on the starting world, even the Heroics (once you get your first companion), then do nothing but class quests and Heroics on every world after. You can hit 56-60 by the end of Chapter 3 if you use your xp boosters they drop on you now and then for the Heroic missions. Doesn't hurt to buy up the Story/Explore bonuses in your Legacy either, but not necessary. I've got a Gunslinger that's about to hit 70 and I'm just past the prologue for Shadow of Revan. Didn't even do any of the Makeb stuff.

@Monogram You have to admit, that 250% xp bonus is REALLY NICE. >.>

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
@Tehom Pretty much what Theno said. Even @Roz said it above... we crowdsource everything in this hobby nowadays because seriously, who has that kind of time? I'm not suggesting that you personally wade through it all, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be prioritized. I think at this point everyone understands that there's five staffers and over 100 players. We get that. So start using the bountiful resources at your disposal... namely, your player base. Shit, I would even offer to help just to help out the people that I like that are still there, and I wouldn't play at Arx again if you paid me.
-
RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
@Tehom I would posit that if people are struggling with current systems due to poor documentation, then clarification of current systems to ease use WOULD be more important than implementation of new systems that will suffer the same problems as the current systems. Ensuring that your players know how to easily navigate systems and files is probably one of the bigger things that should be prioritized (and often isn't).

I would LOVE a Fallout game and can help with descing grid spaces or whatnot, but I have zero code skills.

but there's a kind of odd annoyance when you eat something, and unsure if it's good or not, you keep eating it.
Boy do I now this feeling. I've been experimenting over the past year and such with cooking new stuff and sometimes it's like, "did this turn out all right or is it a horrible fucking dumpster fire? eh, whatever. om nom nom."
P.S. I also put pictures of my culinary acomplishments on Instagram, now.
Yeah. Come at me.

@fatefan See, now that to me would be hilarious good fun and I would enjoy the Hell out of it!

RE: Superhero Games: Quest For Villain PCs
@TwoGunBob You're running on the presumption that there's no oversight on any of this. It couldn't happen without some kind of oversight. Staff would want a heads up on any major plots going on, and individual scenes would still likely have a GM of some kind guiding it.
-
RE: Superhero Games: Quest For Villain PCs
@Thenomain I agree completely on all presented points.
-
RE: Superhero Games: Quest For Villain PCs
@TwoGunBob Actually, if you think of a villainous plan as a long-term plot? Villains can absolutely win.. in the short-term. Joker breaks out of Arkham, Batman pursues but Joker's pre-planning leads Batman into a trap that allows Joker to slip away. Joker manages to steal from chemical companies, arsenals, and various other odd places... and Batman is always a step behind. Until that final confrontation when the 'plan' is coming together... only for Batman to pull some crazy superhero 'I am the Night' bullshit out of his cape and foil the whole deal. Joker wins on the small, immediate level all the time, but when it comes to the BIG FINALE? Batman always manages to sleuth out exactly what he needs to do to stop the Joker.
THAT is what makes a great dynamic between hero and villain. The suspense. The thought that the bad guy has been ahead of the good guy this whole time only to lose it all in one fell swoop. Even Superman has it. Zod initially kicked Superman's ass all up and down the street until Supes had to go 'commune' in his icy mancave and figure out where he was going wrong. Zod was winning... until Superman got the revelation he needed to fuck his world up.

RE: Superhero Games: Quest For Villain PCs
@Arkandel Oh my God, no! I want to see all the small time shit that flies under superhero radar that villains MUST be doing in order to set up their more elaborate evil plans! Three tons of TNT isn't going to just appear... where did Joker get it? Was that robbery at the hardware store last week small time crooks or was Penguin stocking up on supplies for his next dastardly deed? I would LOVE to see 'day in the life' of a supervillain. The planning stages ALONE have to be hilarious, not to mention the henchmen meetings, the supplies gathering, the putting people into place and maneuvering that would need to be done before you can tip over that first domino and set off the chain reaction... that would be AMAZING.

RE: Superhero Games: Quest For Villain PCs
Give villains setups. And this will sound strange but... anyone that's seen the old 60's Adam West Batman movie? THAT is how you villain. Four big bads got together, concocted a plan, and that plan had multiple levels to it. Sure, lure Batman out to sea, try to get your trained sharks to eat him... but even as he escapes, you're pulling off the part of the plan that he doesn't even know about yet! Sit around a table bickering about who did what wrong.
"Well if YOU didn't have to leave your cursed riddles everywhere, he wouldn't have figured out where to go!"
"Well if your sharks had done their job, he wouldn't be a problem anymore!"Etc. That sort of thing made me LOVE the villains. Not because they won, but because they made losing hilarious and fun! So yeah, 'Miss Kitka' turns out to be Catwoman and the plan falls to pieces and you're all thrown in jail... time to start plotting that awesome 'break out of jail' prp that will be sure to cause tons of lulz and have the heroes scratching their heads about how you managed to escape for the fiftieth time!
Not everything in superhero land needs, or even should, be super serious and gritty. Its based on comicbook world, you know, the place where primary colors and 'BIFF' and 'POW' ruled the day!

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
Stardew Valley is SUPER addictive... fun if you like low fantasy simulations! And I only say low fantasy because magic seeds and weird little colored 'fairies'(?) that do magic things... and the wizard in the tower. Otherwise its largely just normal people living in a town, helping you start a farm.

Update: she thought Jump Around was by Cypress Hill.
I'm guessing she doesn't know the lyrics? XD

That awkward moment in life when you realize you don't really know someone. In this case, your spouse.
You are almost 35 years old...HOW HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD OF CYPRESS HILL!?!?!?!?
TBF to your wife... she IS a communist. They don't play Cypress Hill in Commieland.
