Most birds are. The tiny-dinosaurs still think they rule the earth.

I would argue that he was an excellent goose, which makes him a terrible person.

RE: Downtime
Please let me know if anything is on fire.
Can we get a server reset on 2020? Maybe upgrade some of the hardware and run a malware sweep? It's been on fire for a while now.

RE: Someone should do a Faerun game.
@ZombieGenesis Birthright really should get way more love than it does. One of the more unique settings.

RE: Interest Check: Assassin's Creed (CofD/2nd Ed) Game?

I would worry about that, because like @Ominous said, with too narrow a focus, you could have a small number of players dominating things.
That's not what I said. I actually approve of a narrow focus. It keeps everyone on the same page and helps move the meta-plot along. See BSGU as a great example.
What I worry about is not having enough roles within a narrow focus.

I'd suggest looking at Lamentations of the Flame Princess. It's specifically built for this, while being a retro-style system game. Very fun. It's like playing D&D in the world presented on Cannibal Corpse and Iced Earth album covers.
LoFP overshoots gothic horror and goes straight to gorn. It's a rough glass of very strong liquor. I play it but it is definitely dark and bloody.

Edit: it's possible something is messed up on my end, I can't check edit history on unlocked threads, either.
I think the feature has been turned off for a little while now.

RE: New Superhero Game Looking for Staff/Feedback
I kind of want to make an OC villain, The Red Scare - a Soviet Mr. Incredible who is angry at Russia's betrayal of communism and has come to smack the US around in his red spandex.

RE: Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?
Also a lot of MUs have wikis that leave a lot to be desired. On one page, give me an elevator pitch of the theme followed by a "It's X meets Y with a touch of Z" of other IPs summary of that theme. Then lay out the history of the setting, recent history prior to the start of the MU* preferable to getting Tolkien-esque, a breakdown of what has happened on the MU since launch is even better. Add a description of what roles the players will be filling and what direction the server is currently headed in.
On another page explain the game mechanics the server uses for resolution and any other idiosyncracies needed to play the game. Do I need to eat and sleep to get back my energy? Let me know here. I don't want to realize after 5 hours of playing that I signed up for MUSH the MUD when I was looking for something a lot less mechanic driven.

RE: Dies Irae: Paid Positions for Coder
@thenomain The stock market is not hard to game-ify. Many board games have done it. It's just a really big auction house. People are selling X at Y price and other people are buying A at B price. Once these people meet and agree to Z price, that sets the new value of the stock. That is a very simplified version, but a MU* only needs a simplified version.

RE: What locations do you want to RP in?
@Gingerlily said in What locations do you want to RP in?:
I actually wonder why bar rp is such a thing. Are the undead super focused on the final four based on nostalgia for their one time alma mater?
Especially because strangers talking to you at a bar can be really creepy, it doesn't seem like the best setting for meeting new people, or old people.
Is it because people like rping in a new situation with a pretend drink in their hand, just like in real life having one to hold gives you something to do and thus lubricates the awkwardness of being around all those strangers?
Bars are only cool for a short window of life, then they are the worst.
You must live in an area without a bar/pub culture. I sit at the actual bar of local microbreweries at least once a week and just strike up conversations with people. I have had some of my most interesting interactions in this way. Prohibition and the temperance movement really did a number on what is a very natural way to socialize - grab some good beer and talk to strangers for no reason but to just relax and have fun.
