It's no wronger than writing smutty fanfic about characters on a TV show.

@SinCerely I would need a slotted spoon, for accuracy!
With the little holes in it???
Yes!
Not really. Though some are very pretty!

I understand this perspective entirely, and I think that there is room for "shades of gray" in media which portrays Imperial Japanese soldiers. However, I also think that it would be enlightening to wonder, for a moment, why there are no movies like this from the Chinese perspective.
Sinophobia, Japanophilia, Cold War propaganda, etc?

I think my primary concern with various deplatforming / shaming strategies is that they don't appear to be particularly effective.
They do result in funny videos of Nazis crying because they can't reach a big enough audience to keep their grift going, so that's a plus.

Yeah, I won't take shots at anyone trying to help, but I'm really suspicious of how basically every story I hear about the Australian fires frames it in terms of animals dead and contains no mention at all of the effects on the indigenous population. It makes me think there's a horror going on there we're not being told about.
The only article I could find says they are pro fire.
Australia fires: Aboriginal planners say the bush 'needs to burn'PS: The article says no such thing.
They're pro-fire in very specific and controlled circumstances.
Not pro-thisfuckingfire.
For the record, I would also like to state that I am also pro fire, as well as pro tool use, language, and ceremonial burial.

Think about it-- obviously an ex-Nazi character wouldn't be accepted simply because they think that Hitler could do no harm and is actually blameless of any atrocities committed by Nazi Germany. So, why would that be a defense for someone who worships Hirohito?
Other than eurocentrism, the difference is probably that there is absolutely no doubt where Hitler stood on the war crimes, whereas Hirohito's culpability is the object of a lot of handwringing and "well, but..." to this day.
There are different ways to enjoy a work of art. I can enjoy prose (including terrible purple prose, particularly if it's old) and the writing craft for its own sake. On the other hand, I have read fanfiction that made me go "this person is a bad writer but they are adorably earnest, my heart". If the latter suddenly veered off into bigotry it would wreck my enjoyment of the work entirely.
Other times I can't even enjoy the first, either because it's too much, or because it hits me in an area that's not armored by privilege, or because I'm feeling particularly fragile at the time, or simply because I realize there's a world of works out there that I could be enjoying instead without grinding my teeth.
...
I try not to support living bigots and terrible people. I think some attempts at canceling people are an overreaction, even if understandable. I agree that some people want to apply absurd purity tests to creators that are seriously lacking in perspective and nuance. It really bothers me when it's weaponized against a random ignorant creator on social media rather than a big media conglomerate or millionare author. And you absolutely shouldn't attack someone simply for enjoying a work of art, even if the art is hateful and the author is terrible.
At the same time, I also feel like the actual impact of cancel culture is often overstated.
Sometimes, things which objectively require more prep work and actual cooking are somehow easier than objectively simpler things.
Absent leftovers, a pan, olive oil, chopped onions and garlic is just what my hands do when I can't be bothered. I may turn it into a meal, I may just season it and slap it on some bread-like surface.
I try to have leftovers, though.

It's hard to answer this because I feel it depends a lot on the game, sphere, pack, etc. And you seem to already have a background in mind that narrows it down. Typically, kinfolk have social connections and positions that are hard for werewolves to maintain, but that might be fun or not depending on the game and how much social stuff is relevant or useful for plot purposes. Things like "Fortune" are always useful, but also terribly situational depending on how cooperative STs are, because mechanical effects are just fluff. Stuff to deal with ghosts and that whole plane of existence might be useful since most werewolves aren't very good at that, but are ghosts going to come up on this game? Is the pack full of Silent Striders and werewolves with ghost buddies? It's hard to say without knowing more.
I feel like the problem, sometimes, is that people are logged in to the same server, but playing different games. Some people's views on what the game is about are so alien to me that I admit it takes me some effort to see it from their angle.
I didn't realize Apos was forcing people to play in Baronies. That sucks, shame on him.
If everyone is a Great House, no one is.
More seriously, some of us would have liked to play in a barony, once upon a time. Poor crummy noble house sounds like fun. The roof on the castle is leaking and your horses are kind of sad looking. It's a different experience, and that's the whole point. Everyone doesn't want the same things.
But then, I never could get into the coded resources game part of the game, and I often felt my character was too rich, too fast. I liked it better when I had my 500 per week or so and had to save up for stuff. I did enjoy having fancy diamondplate swords, of course! But, really, I didn't enjoy getting them nearly as much as when my character was first able to afford a really nice high quality steel weapon, or a silk velvet doublet, or something like that.

Updated. I should actually have some time for RP now, if not for the bestest of reasons and not the most active and intense RP at all times, but still, I'll be trying to pick Abby back up and just started a new character on NOLA.
I'm still looking around and fiddling with the possibility of creating characters elsewhere, but I'm bad at MU*ing, so... suggestions and wanted stuff welcome!
I will say that IC is IC but... even absent any <ooc> communication, the exact same IC action, written out in different ways, can be creepy or not. Like, seriously, some people's writing throws red flags all over the place.
Maybe it's just me!
"I need food" just sounds better, for reasons, than "I need money to exchange for goods and services", even if the second might be more honest. So people lie.
