@surreality I just thought I would note that I can't even count the times that the staffers thought themselves approachable and diplomatic, but in reality they were so damned defensive they'd harangue you for hours and were liable to talk smack about you behind your back.

After a while it seems smarter to not bother. Of course this only exacerbates the problem. Just thought I'd note a lot of the time the metaphorical neon sign saying 'Talk to me' isn't the most sincere in my opinion.

I once played a dapper Hutt who was hunted by the Cartel for stealing his boss's clothes and freeing his slaves. He once outran an imperial army. They still wonder to this day how that was physically possible.

    • RE: Regarding administration on MSB

@pandora Was that a bit much? I'm unironically sorry. I must have thrown it in at the heat of the moment and forgot it was there. I even had a friend who I considered relatively level-headed check it over. That being said I understand your decision.

I will go to the pit and play with the other piggies

    • RE: Encouraging Proactive Players

I think both sides on the Aspirations system debate make decent points. For instance, it can quickly turn into a chore depending on the type of character people want to play and has plenty of opportunity for abuse.

That being said, once in a blue moon I do manage to make use of it and go 'hey this is what I'm trying to do'. It's good for characters who are very active and constantly involving themselves in new things. It's shit for characters with one general goal in mind. I know the long term vs. short-term aspirations is supposed to remedy this somewhat, but I don't think it does a particularly good job.

    • RE: Vampire Requiem 2nd Edition Bloodlines Question

      @zombiegenesis Ok sure

The Players: It's pretty self-explanatory. They originated there. Movies. Very easy to convert.

The Barjot: Seems like they would fit in anywhere with at least a proximity to the hippie culture.

The Taifa: The same goes for any other Middle Eastern bloodline given California's decent sized population of different MENA groups. I imagine they would also do quite well in that setting.

California Xia: Come on, California is even in the name!

Toreador: They're basically the real deal of what the Players are trying to imitate. They're the actual artists/critics.

Carnon: Once again, they originated in California.

There are tons of others that could fit but those definitely come to mind.

    • RE: Vampire Requiem 2nd Edition Bloodlines Question

Hey I was thinking if I wanted to convert the Carnival, I could just give them Protean as 2e protean mirrors a couple of their powers. What do you think?

I'm not sure if this is the place for that discussion but I like to speculate.

Edit: Overall converting MOST bloodlines isn't that difficult in my opinion even with the ones that have bloodline specific disciplines. Some of the 1e books even suggest how to do it.

    • RE: How do you construct your characters?

I suppose it depends. I had this idea of doing a kind of naga with a messiah complex concept so I looked into the game's lore and some history and such. The personality is always somewhat inherent in the concept itself. As are the flaws. I usually figure how I implement them mechanically last.

I usually got the backstory in mind already but I stat them first as it's easier for me, THEN I got back and change things as finishing touches if need be. Looks depend although I suppose most of the time at least the vaguest idea of looks like 'thin pakistani guy' or whatever, but then I get into the details like what they would wear and such later.

Sometimes I start with a lore thing and work from there though. Like an interesting combination of class/splat or what have you. Then I'd get into a basic concept or 'personality'.

It sounds very messy but I can't be the only one like this. I like to come up with vague concepts ahead of time and have a vague idea of what the sheet looks like ahead of time. Even if it's just for fun.

    • RE: Reasons why you quit a game...

@auspice Yeah that would have pissed me off to probably. I mean if I homebrewed a setting or something I'd be flattered but just straight up ripping it is terrible.

The worst part is I really liked the old setting. Thankfully they got rid of the guy though so at least there was a happy ending.

Eh well main ones for me is I can't trust the staff or I don't care for the players. Usually it's a combination, but everything seems to be an extension of that more or less.

But there was this one case where they straight up ripped the setting from some other chat, which just strikes me as lazy. Maybe even egomaniacal because you know that dude exported his char to this setting as well, which is weird to me. If you don't mind that, more power to you but I see it as a red flag.

@three-eyed-crow True but the problem I'm referring to isn't 'not being taken seriously'. This is a different problem entirely in which it IS taken seriously but people get so defensive or even turn it against you that you wish you didn't take it seriously. A separate problem entirely imo.
